Nice. I couldn't for the life of me remember his first name.

A problem with Whitaker is that he was virtually only ever played out of position. Sound familiar? Although he seems to have tailed off now, Weimann, who achieved very little apart from working hard playing out of position, when played to his strengths started scoring for fun. And so it us with Sibley. Eh did well under Cocu, who has a reputation for making the best of young players. But Rosenior and Rooney  rushed his creativity, and Warne didn’t give him much of a chance until the small squad and injuries forced him to open the door, and he got lucky.
It will be a hell of a waste if the lad does go, but I would hope that he finds a manager who lets him play football instead of forcing him to do something else. And yet again we’ll be left saying “What if …..?” or “if only …..”

Probably because Leeds are as big as Villareal

Brown reportedly rated at £17m by Gent, with Villa and Palace linked.
Whittaker reporedly had an £8.5m bid from Lazio turned down in January.
Ebosele was linked with Spurs, with around £12m being needed for Udinese to sell.
Buchanan moved from Bremen to Birmingham for around £1.5m.
Liam Delap is available again this summer, with Man City looking for £10m.
Sibley was better than all of them.
Add, Bird, Knight (and Sibley) to that list above and it's only £6m generated from sales, whereas they'd cost more than £50m now.

Hughes looked a class above his peers at U18 level, but was never a match winner like Sibley.
Huddlestone similar to Hughes in respect to looking a class above (and a physical monster for his age) but not being a match winner... not surprising for a CB tbh.
Barnes was a more rounded player than Sibley, and I would argue much more entertaining to watch. But I don't think he had the end product Sibley had.

I'm going to be so gutted if Sibley leaves.
Not because I think he's an absolute gamechanger for us, but just for sentimentality reasons. That's three of our own gone in such a short space of time.

I had the privilege of watching him for the U18s & U21s prior to him breaking through and that's what I'm referring towards so I'm talking in regards to his peers. It was absolutely no to me that he had 5 goals & 2 assists in his first 11 games. It was also no surprise Wolves were desperate to sign him before he burst on to the scene for £5m plus. He was an elite-level prospect, he shared a pitch with players worth £40m+ now and looked every inch as good. He was a midfielder who got involved in every level could drag a team by their coattails and his career should've been vastly, vastly different. The more I think about it and what he was, to the point we've arrived to, makes me feel a bit sick. Whittaker and Archie Brown got out at the right time - both were good prospects, Brown in particular, but neither were remotely close to Sibley IMO.
Huddlestone, Hughes & Barnes I only got to see at a first-team level so unfair comparison.

Steve Powell and his Dad, Tommy, most definitely were, but I guess if a player grew up in and around Derby and never played anywhere, they probably stayed a Derby supporter all their lives.
The nice thing is how many ex-players who weren't Derby fans growing up were sending good luck and congratulatory messages after promotion, and many through our financial troubles too.

Ganging up , bullying 😂😂😂, here we go again ,,,,, you pick subjects and points of view that you know will fully put you at odds with lots of posters on this forum and let’s be honest they are 99% of the time aimed at putting derby , the manager and players down , that’s fine but don’t pull all this victim poo , you crave attention through negative jibes at the club

There’s a difference between “being outbid” and choosing to pay up to a certain amount that the club believes the player is worth. Not saying I agree with it, but there’s every chance the club has made what it believes is a fair offer and Sibley feels he’s worth more so is looking elsewhere, rather than that Rotherham are able to pay more than we can.
IF he is leaving it’s a massive shame either way.

Conor did his best and his best was often pretty classy, but essentially playing a 2 in MF did him no favours, indeed, even Bird struggled in a league where you have to have legs in the middle of the park. Irrespective, I think it's telling that the lads themselves made him their skipper and it was noted that he stuck staunchly by the team even when effectively benched late on in the season. No bitching, no ego, just help the team get over the line. I respect that. He's a good egg and has shown himself to be a seriously talented footballer and I wish him well in his future career as a coach. I'd not be at all surprised to see him do rather well.

Even if we had beaten Villa, we were in a hole then and promotion may not have helped.
If you could go back to one point, it was at the end of 2014/15.
Even if you sack McClaren. Don’t go and spend £25m in one summer on a bunch of random players and hire a manager who’d never managed before.
That summer alone is the primary reason we went down to League One. Every bad decision after that was a consequence of trying to rectify the monumental mistakes made that summer.

It bothered me when we got promoted and just tuning into the playoff final highlights to enjoy watching leeds players cry I see it about again on the official flags; “we stepped up”. What faux Americanised drivel is this? Anyone else unnecessarily bothered by this, or is it just my age and lack of sedatives?
