Loving this thread @Stagtime. Learnt loads about Scottish places to visit. You should promote Scottish holidays back downunder and get a comission!
Thanks, after 7 1/2 weeks in Scotland we're off to Yorkshire for 3 days and then Derby for 3 days. Unfortunately arriving in Derby around 2 on Saturday so trying to figure out if I have enough time to get from the hotel and get tickets for the trial match.

I can report that the midgies are becoming rampant further north. Congrats on the WHW finish, from Gairloch.
Only seen a few the whole trip.

So i ran a half marathon with no real issues, survived a weekend of adventure training this weekend, hill walking, caving and mountain biking. Then yesterday went to sports day and took part in the dads race, barely a 50m sprint, and strained my hamstring.
im pretty sure it’s a strain based on what I’ve read on the internet. It’s a common injury from a sprint, and apparently a really common injury from sports days.
Im worried that I’m going to struggle to keep my fitness up while I’m hobbling about though.
Currently I’ve got my leg up on the couch, my thigh wrapped in ice, and dosed up with ibroprufen.
Any other tips to speed recovery, or exercise despite the injury?
For myself, ice and rest and when you think that you are right to go give it a extra week.

And its been pissing down in NSW apparently (but no idea if that's anywhere near where you guys live ?
Thanks mate, having a great time. No we're from God's country up in Queensland. In saying that, yesterday was the second coldest day on record in Brisbane at 12.4c. The day before was the third coldest at 14.5c so it's actually warmer here in Scotland!

When is that mate? Been planning a road trip starting at my friends' place in the Lakes then driving the West coast as far as it goes but it'd be nice if it didn't involve being bitten to death.
Start at Milngavie next Monday July 4 and finishing in Fort William 8 days later. Our days range from 16 to 24 km a day, not sure what that is in miles. The whole walk is 160 km. The missus has plenty of skin so soft which is supposed to be the best stuff to use. If they are the same as home then coconut oil is good and a lot cheaper. It’s the oil they don’t like.

Hope you managed to get round the West Coast before the midgie's came out to play.
Enjoy Glasgow, fantastic city. Totally different to Edinburgh. Not as pleasing on the eye, but more down to earth.
We’ve never been to Glasgow so we’re looking forward to it. At least you can see the midge’s here, the ones back home are that small you can’t see them but you sure know that they are around. The sister in law finished the walk last week and they didn’t seem to bad.

It looks like Stretford paid Mays wages.

At the halfway mark, 5 weeks gone, 5 to go. Last few days in Edinburgh before a few days in Glasgow and then start walking the West Highland Way next Monday. Highlights so far, the ruggedness of Isle of Skye and around John O’Groats was all I was hoping for. Living in Edinburgh for a month has been great, getting in plenty of hill training for our walk next week, the local markets have great product and the amounts of pubs and eating places around where we are staying is staggering.
A couple of photos of the street we’re staying and a weekends haul from the markets.

Haha, I'll blame eating breakfast and typing for that. What's one comma between friends ?
