Sometimes one dimensional is more than enough to get out of the lower leagues, look how Wimbledon used to be and they won the FA Cup also doing it. We might be able to do it in the EFL Cup but a lot of the fans will be happy if we all achieve the results we are trying to achieve.
A minority of fans will never be happy, with whatever style Derby play.
I still shake my head when I had to tell young fans during the Q.P.R v Derby Play Off Final to get a grip of themselves when they spent most of the game verbally attacking their own players, mostly Jamie Ward calling him all sorts, with a load of filthy uncouth words.
I get having a go at the opposing team with banter, trying to effect their game, but some fans will just never work out what “supporter” means, unfortunately.

The fact that a Derby player voices support for the manager tends to piss off stupid people, so what's your excuse?

That’s the Hourihane who on two separate podcasts this year has said Warne’s man management is a strength.
We all know how you feel about Warne being manager of the club, you asked for evidence of what the players think of his man management and I provided some. It doesn’t match your own view of Warne, but it’s directly quoted from one of the senior figures in the squad, sometimes you can just accept the information available to you as well as holding your own opinion

In fairness I reckon both Collins and Bradley could have handled themselves in the playground. I wonder how many folk who take the keyboard criticism to the excesses (and beyond fair and reasonable) would actually say this directly to the players if they met them (and no I don’’t count shouting faceless abuse when you’re part of a 1,500 away or 25,000 home crowd).
I suspect there are very few.

It’s not about being happy clappy and if he plays badly in a particular game I have no problem him being criticised.
What I dislike intensely is the way in certain quarters individual players are cast as the ones to kick on a regular basis. It’s destructive it’s a kind of remote bullying. If this was a real playground there’d be a group picking out the likes of Collins, Bradley, Malone for special “attention” They were even on Vydras back for a short while.

Over the course of the season we’re going to need goals from everywhere. Collo may not be our first choice in some games but he has a role to play. He scored our only goal in the draw against Portsmouth, he scored both in a 2-0 win at Carlisle and he scored the 2nd in the win against Blackpool. Agreed he could have added to that at Cheltenham and Shrewsbury. He’s a League One striker - not PL - his conversion rate is going to be low. But he works his nuts off and by all accounts is a great for building togetherness in the dressing room.
All of the strikers have looked good in some games and pants in others - but at least we have options when that happens now!!

You know that’s just plain wrong. Collins is past his best and in any case was and is a league one striker with all the flaws that entails. BUT One thing Collins does do is get in good positions. I can’t defend the missed chances but you know, he should have played Barks in the other week and got slated. Barks did the same but not a whisper. Not on in my book.
Collo isn’t the answer to “Derby’s No 9” but he is a Ram, he’s our player, he works, turns up and does stuff (did anyone notice the the back flick exchange with NML last night ?

I find the toxicity towards him from some quarters simply loathsome. We had the same over Bradley but he seems to have been forgiven by the mob (for now) The same mob that are wanting to crucify the manager and have zero patience and zero understanding of the meaning of support. Some supporters seem to revel in attacking our own for mistakes, bad luck or whatever other something they can use to focus their puerile attitude to sport.
Pompous ? Angry ? Opinionated ? Yes .. I am guilty of all of them but when a player has our shirt on I back them, I don’t set out to trip them up or rejoice in mishaps. And no .. it isn’t “bants” or a “larf”

I understand that when the football isn’t pretty, and the league position is dire, football fans will inevitably lash out. However, I am amazed that there are a good number on here tonight slating our owner. This is a staggering state of affairs even for our club, only some 15 months since he saved us.  Cool it down lads.

As someone very much in the Warne out camp I have absolutely no issue with the players or management giving a bit back if they prove me/us wrong.
Feedback is a two way street. Some fans seem to think that everyone at the club should take their abuse and never react. It's pathetic.

I listened to it on Rams Daily, thought it was a really good interview. He was directly addressing Dom’s question, he also clarified outside noise is everywhere when you’re in elite sport. Agree with other posters who have said or implied those taking offence are those hearing what they want to hear to fit their viewpoint/agenda

Yes me and my Son too, not that it matters really as many follow home and away at great expense. Kind of what we do though and is always a choice to you and your Son..
I am not offended by this in the slightest. In fact he is bang on with his comments. If you wish to be offended that you are the outside noise then perhaps that is a reflection more on you than him.
Lets be honest, and as you know considering you were at Blackpool, fans singing PW your football is s**t at nil nil after 30 minutes is pathetic considering we went onto a great victory that night. A minority of fans sung this but still. 3 nil down fill your boots but at nil nil, jesus would have wept.
All Richie Barker did is publically state that they are getting the players focused and to ignore the negative outside noise, of which there is as we all know. This is good management. Keeping the players positive and focused is the only way we will win football games and get us out this league.
You can twist and turn words all you like to be offended in one way or another. Keep a level head and stay positive. It is amazing what togetherness can do.

The question was literally framed as "It's important not to get carried away with outside noise isn't it?" so Barker had every right to answer the question using the very same phrase.
Some people will just choose to take offence to anything if it fits with their preconceived narrative.

When I heard the team I immediately thought 3 4 3 but it was clear when the game started it was as you’ve said. Connor playing the pivot role - which on one or two occasions left him exposed - when this happened it was fine as both centre halves were sat in. And as others observed, because they play from the back,  the extra bodies we had higher up the pitch nullified the the outball meaning they gifted possession with a hopeful ball or we turned over because of pressure round on the man with ball.
Yes Exeter weren’t great but I’d suggest a lot of that was because last night we got it spot on tactically.
Having said all that …the only thing that matters right now is results - so whatever works to get 3pts is fine by me!!!

Shame to see so-called fans labelling our own player as 'dogshit' and other choice terms. By all means call him out on the game, but is the abuse really necessary? He's a Derby player after all. Some on here might like to consider how they'd feel if they were being assessed in such charming terms for their efforts at their place of work. Whatever you think of his ability, he's still a Rams player and entitled to a modicum of respect from us fans as such. He's also 5 from 13 in the league this season, which is far from the horror story some of the drama queens on here portray. Hard to imagine, other spitting on the badge or flat out throwing it in, what would actually warrant terms like 'dogshit', but missing an easy square pass certainly isn't one of them. And this after we've won the game too!
Likewise Exeter - without fail, every time we win, we get a chorus of "well (insert club name) were by far the worst team we've faced all millennium" type comments. So f****** tedious. Last night, Oxford were beaten by a team languishing in the bottom 3 and Portsmouth could not muster a goal in 95 minutes against the mighty Cambridge, which more sensible heads might think tells you all you need to know about this league. The fact is, we're a league 1 team (as was evidenced by our failure to secure promotion last season) and right now we're playing like one, as often as not. The very same people who sagely pontificated on how hard it would be to get out of this league, are some the chippiest ***** on here now we're struggling. Get in the bin!
As for the game, the result was never in doubt. I thought we looked comfortable, pretty much throughout and were more than good value for the 2-0. They tried to play football, which was a pleasant surprise, but we were very good without the ball last night, harrying and pressing well and you could see their last vestiges of hope evaporate with the second goal. On the rare occasions they enjoyed a little possession, we kept our shape brilliantly and never really gave them too much hope. I think we look as good as any team I've seen in the league defensively speaking and we have a decent quality midfield if we can somehow keep Max healthy of mind and body and in good form. Still short of that explosive goal threat, though if we play like we did last night, we've enough to trouble most sides.
As for the result, it could and maybe should have been 4-0 and without the interventions of the myopic linesman, it might well have been. Surely that is worthy of more than begrudging praise, if any. Let's be honest here, there's no such thing as a 'routine win' for a side with our current home record! With 'routine' help from the officials, more often than not we conspire to turns 3 points into 1, or none at all, so let's not pretend otherwise, eh!
Moving forwards, I hope that this is not another false dawn and that the attacking line-up is deployed against all but the best teams in the league, where a more circumspect approach is perhaps understandable. While I think we're a long way off Championship quality right now, we do have a strongish squad for L1 and we really need to be ensconcing ourselves firmly in the top 6 sooner, rather than later. Meet that milestone and we can then set about trying to reel in Oxford and / or Pompey which is a far from impossible feat if we can just add some consistency to our game.

I’m with you, he’s a limited footballer but hardly the useless player some make him out to be.
He’s scored 5 goals so far this season (yes 2 were penalties but they still count and he still has to be composed enough to take it and score), puts a shift in when called upon, does occasionally get involved in build up play (he sent Bird away for the pullback to Barkhuizen on the weekend), and does his work in defence too.
Are there better strikers out there? Yeah for sure. Do I appreciate Collins for doing his job while he’s here? Yep

I would say that sitting comfortably with a game in hand in the top half of the table is proof that the manager is actually doing something right, especially when you consider he has had to put together an entire new squad on a budget (and I know the claims that our budget is greater than others although I don't necessarily believe that when other clubs are shelling out big fees). Granted out football is not easy on the eye, but aside from the team being a few points/places higher, what more could he do?
It's all well and good identifying a player that can improve the squad. I dare say that same player will have a host of bigger and better clubs knocking on his door. Warne has put together a squad with a match of players he had identified, the majority of whom (reading between the lines of his interviews), were not first choice. I'm not going to berate the manager for bringing in the likes of Washington, Nelson and the like as they were in all likelihood, the scraps with which he was left with.
Derby County may seem like a big draw for us fans, but for the players, they will look at our recent turbulent history and it wouldn't be difficult to find more appealing clubs, even if those clubs are not maybe the same size and stature of DCFC.
Play-offs would represent a successful season IMO all things considered. That will clearly not be good enough for some fans, particularly those who are of the opinion that we have some divine right to be playing at a higher level due to our size, but I think it will be OK in the eyes of the decision maker/s.
