If Thompson, Ozoh and Chirewa are all unavailable next weekend we might to go with a 5-2-3 system like how we ended the game. None of the injuries seem to serious which is good news.

I think he was going to do that regardless of todays result due to Sheff United being rather tall

I said to the guys around me in the East Stand that once we scored, Bristol started to look 'ratty' all across the park.

And it's not too surprising. They are an established but progressing Championship team and were coming to a newly promoted side who have spent a lot of time this season on the back foot. They were all over us for 20 minutes, should've scored at least once and everything was going to their plan until we change our midfield position and pretty much immediately scored. Then we just started smashing them in midfield and they looked perplexed. I think Bristol came to Pride Park with an arrogance that it was going to be an easy game, and just lost their heads when it started to slip and they couldn't get it back.

It surprised me as well though - we haven't been that dominant in midfield in years. I don't think anyone saw it coming.

Agree to a point but they think they should have been a couple of goals in front and we would have given up but their shots were blocked or were saved by our players - they weren’t good enough and we were better at defending - great post by the way

I think Ozoh was huge in the second half. The way he was winning the ball deep and then driving forward, allowed everyone else to get forward and stretch the defence. The final goal epitomised that, and then when he followed up Adams shot, he just brushed the defender to one side like he was a 12 year old.

One of my biggest complaints of Derby the last few years has been us allowing strong midfielders to just carry the ball straight through the middle. No coincidence that Bristol City took our supposedly best two midfielders, and then that was exactly what we did to them on Saturday.

I made reference in an earlier post of mine that Ozoh so far has played average first half but seriously gets stronger in the second half of games whilst opponents get weaker - it’s rather noticeable

  6. Absolutely enjoyed that and we could comfortably had 6 goals

keeper played well Cashin was a brick wall and Ozoh has a habit of being tentertive and average in the first half then enormous in the second half and a beast - they all played well and Bristol caved in to the physical aspects and one or two of them were somewhat mardy

Nice to see knight and Bird back with knight being a bit tetchy but he was captain and it was going badly for him and Bird put in a few beautiful passes in which our lads were blocking the goal bound shots. After going to Watford last week where they were enormous Bristol looked tiny today, just strange to see the big difference

Warne's first transfer window we were under a full embargo

The next 2 we were under working to an EFL business plan

This is the first window he has not had restrictions, although he has had to undertake significant rebuild  in a higher division.

Considering we aren't the most attractive girl in the room, apart from bringing in a target man (who could still be signed from the unattached list) this window has not been that bad.

My point was that he has had the opportunity to bring a certain type of player in to suit the way he wants to play despite any restrictions there were or weren’t in place

  8. I have never criticised the team or even booed and that’s having followed Derby for 40 odd years and it’s lovely to look like we might score a goal from a set piece having gone decades without looking like we could but I would like that with an intent to play lovely attacking football. I support the team but I feel we could do a lot better.
Then again we always seem to have our player of the year chosen from one of our centre backs which tells some kind of a story

I think he’s worth shoving up there for ten minutes but not as a starter.

It isn’t a positive message for the strikers in the squad. I’d be pretty miffed as a striker if I stayed on the bench and Bradley was put up front.

I agree, I do expect him to be up there with ten mins to go frequently if we are chasing a game and as you say Brown and Washington were sat on the bench still at Watford as we used 5 subs one of which was Collins who I don’t remember touching the football.

I agree with you. Given we will play on the break most of the time, a striker who can run in behind is more useful than a lumbering big unit.

We have got plenty of those for the set pieces, where they are needed.

What I would like to see is more awareness of the sort of forward balls needed to service Yates, Jackson and hopefully Brown, a change from reliance on get it down the wings and cross to "who? Nobody's there!"

We need a different emphasis on coaching through balls, low crosses and pull backs instead.

The only one we have who has done that his whole career is Forsyth but we don’t have a Martin or Bryson reading it anymore or a Ward covering him when he does it - I would be playing Forsyth over Elder anyway if it was a straight choice

  11. It’s staggering really that Warne’s team basically tries to score a goal by

1 - get it wide and cross it into the box

2 - counter attack with pace

3 - hope we get a set piece and the ball drops kindly for anyone in the box.

So he has had 4 full transfer transfer windows and not sorted getting a centre forward that is tall, strong and can head the football and hopefully bring others into play and be aimed at when we lump it forward that can affect 1&3
