Heading the ball is the issue, not the clashes of heads, flailing elbows and things? Sure.

For what it’s worth, just like the NFL, know the risks. Don’t break a fundamental part of the game.

The trouble is those things exist because heading exists.

I don’t know the answer - it’s a huge change but where dementia is concerned we surely need to err on the side of caution. The sport would just have to adapt, and I’m sure it will.

You have seen a different Elder to me.

Not impressed at all. We need a new LWB

Yes I don’t think he’s a LWB at all. Good defender but not dynamic or athletic enough going  forward from what I’ve seen. LB in a 4 or wide CB in 3, probably not first choice in either and definitely not in the latter

It wouldn’t surprise me if Sibley is influenced by those he’s grown up playing with. The likes of Max Bird & Jason Knight choosing to make a fish he with the hope of furthering their careers, he’s surely going to think to himself whether he should do the same.

He’s playing out of position, and although he’s done well there, I think he will be very unlikely to start next season as part of our best XI.

I’d like to keep him, but he might be better off going somewhere that he can start every week where he wants to play, even if that’s back in League 1 again.

If I was him I would be telling my agent to do all they can to get me in at Peterborough. I hope we keep him though.

Even if it was out of position he was our best left back / left wing back last season and based on the very limited bits we’ve seen of him so far, Elder to me is a decent defender in a 4 and could play as an emergency CB in a 3 but not sure he could play further forward

There seems to be a lot of emphasis, on a teenager who's got 1 in 2 at League 5 level against any number of blokes who still work part time, to score goals against defences that have cost millions of pounds and are full internationals. I think we may need quite a bit more than that as striking options.

Yes we will need more, I don’t think anyone thinks otherwise, but Derby’s (and any non parachute club) best chance of having a striker younger than 25 who is good enough for the Championship is developing one.

We didn’t hold a pity party March though 😂

and even now, on this forum there’s a complete reluctance to accept that Derbys situation was one of your (well, Morris’) own doing. It’s all the EFLs fault

We broke the rules and paid for it. Our fans generally seem to accept that

Yeah everyone loves Morris on here

It’s almost as if coming up, spending some money, and actually having a reasonable go at it was worthwhile..

Especially when you only get 4 points deducted for it.

Although it didn’t stop another wave of tears from your fans and a sanctimonious statement from your club who a week before had voted for less funding for EFL clubs.

My god John Percy really has become a mouthpiece for Forest & Marinakis. Latest article being how brilliant their recruitment has been when their team has mustered less than a point per game excluding deduction and only stands above the 3 newly promoted teams.

Did Marinakis make him an offer he couldn't refuse or something?

Doesn’t seem a surprise though, you look back now and doesn’t take a massive reach to think he was in Morris’ pocket here as well

  8. Had a good game against us at PP

A little bit like when Ebiowei when he left us though, you wonder a little about their motivation when they finally find a home after bouncing around loads of clubs only to choose to leave as soon as they start to impress.

It's funny that Forest are amazed that Nottingham City Council won't give them a dirt cheap rent when the Council went into a Section 114.

Especially when their previous chairman proclaimed from the rooftops that they'd agreed on a new 250yr lease. When they hadn't - it was never confirmed.

Huge conflict of interest when their current chairman stands to gain massively should they move to a new site - his architecture firm would make so much more from an entirely new stadium than trying to polish a turd...

I’m also sure I read that the rent was increasing from £250k p/a to £1m p/a. Yes in isolation it is steep but only in the context of it seeming amazingly cheap in the first place, and even then it is just a drop in the ocean. I bet they were paying Clattenburg that to write his silly articles in the Daily Mail.

If they are surprised they are going to struggle to redevelop the “WF”CG they are incredibly stupid. I’m no genius but even I could’ve told them the West Bridgford NIMBY’s wouldn’t allow it (probably fair enough) and saved them loads of time and money.

I am not saying he’s done a bad job. Far from it. Perhaps more a case of taking on a high-risk, low-reward job based on how the ownership operate.

From the fans’ perspective, those who understand the club, understand its place on the ladder, and understand the division, Rosenior will have a lot of goodwill I am sure.

In continental football, I just don’t think the idea of ‘credit in the bank’ really and truly exists. The owners often display main character syndrome and see themselves as bigger than the manager and the manager being very much expendable, so clubs often have a culture of changing managers in the hope of a successful roll of the dice. I follow Serie A closely and it’s rife there. We’ve also seen that seep into our game with the Watford-Udinese connection.

If the Turkish group at Hull operate in a similar way, they are probably just as likely to chop and change until something clicks to their liking.

Yeah I don’t disagree with that bit, they’ll soon be on their 4th manager having got rid of McCann and Rosenior harshly already.

Just thought you’d made it sound like he took over a club expecting promotion (I probably misinterpreted) but it’s more the case that their progress under Rosenior has been part of his downfall. I’d be surprised if, at the start of last season, promotion was on anyone sensible’s agenda given where they were. But then you’re 8th in January and choose to push it with high quality loans, miss out and get sacked.

He can’t be surprised. Hull have been one of the biggest spenders in the Championship in the past 12 months. The owners are ambitious. You have to keep pace or you will fall on your sword trying.

He needs a club that he can grow with, a club that can complement him in a sense of where they are in their respective journeys. Hull have designs for something much bigger at a much faster rate obviously.

A better fit for him would be a club like Plymouth. He has a similar playing philosophy to previous coaches there (Schumacher and Lowe) and they are not yet fully established at Championship level and have modest resources. It’s a challenging job but one where it can be stable and mutually beneficial.

They were lower mid table when he took over? Had what I would assume were some fairly expensive players not doing an awful lot in Tufan and Seri but hardly like he took over a Leeds or a Leicester.

If they were not on the brink of the play offs in January they would not have signed such high quality players on loan and he would not have had such expectations. But equally the fact he had already done a decent job with Morton and Delap probably contributed to the quality of loans he had access to.

But the fact he had no interest in playing football once he got the golden ticket is poor in my opinion. Complete poohouse.

I don’t know what you do for a living but if the company you work for gave you a fixed term contract then chose not to assign you any tasks, you would probably not go elsewhere for (let’s say) half the money where you might or might not get assigned tasks.

If he ever refused to play for Derby that’s a different matter but don’t think there’s evidence of that? In Rowett’s season he was selected in an emergency, came in and did well.

  13. 2 minutes ago, TomTom92 said:

Because one would assume a footballer would want to play football.

Derby gave him an X year contract on £Xk per week. That they chose not to pick him to play football in that time is up to them

Could’ve gone out on loan and saved us some wages and yanno actually played football…his job.

Have no time for the parasite.

    Why should he?

I think you should have to give evidence if you keep stating that what you are saying is fact. Perfectly fair.

Unlike you, I'm not doing that. I just praised Warne for working on a shoestring budget. Perhaps I should have used the word "restricted" or "tight", but it wouldn't have changed the point I was making or my opinion on how impressive a coach he is.

I do think, though, that a club being able to pay fees is kind of overstated at this level.

I wonder how many players moved for a fee in L1 over the last two windows are players we’d be bothered about. Maybe May and Collins? Probably others if I cared to think - so I can perhaps sympathise with Warne over how we ended up up front (and credit him for how we got by!) as the best strikers at the level have cost fees but I think being able to compete with Championship clubs on wages is probably more of a needle mover, which we seemed to be able to do.

  16. Their squad by the end of the season was pretty good but that included adding Zaroury, Carvalho and Giles all on loan in January when you probably have to wait til at least March for them to settle. I think only Giles was signed with any intention of making it permanent too.

This isn’t a comment on whether we should’ve kept him on or not, clearly it’s worked out, but think he can count himself very unfortunate with both his jobs so far
