Most of my life I've lived in Derbyshire and I love the county. Beautiful scenery, wonderful people and the football team isn't bad either. Decided to move to Derby for ease of work. I'm not sure whether it's because I've lived in the city awhile now, the place is getting worse every year.

The main streets are full of drug users who don't seem to be getting any help by the local authorities. A night out is a no go in a couple of areas, there's been so many stabbings recently in bars and I only stick to the pubs I know nowadays. The shopping centre ruined the city. Far too big for the city population, meaning other areas receive hardly any footfall. The council have wasted so much money on projects and buildings that we don't need. Instead of rebuilding the Assembly Rooms, they've let it rot yet greenlit a project to build a new performance centre. Where was the logic in that? What's the plan for the old building? Boggles the mind.

Derby Arena I can't stand either. They couldn't even build a velodrome track big enough to host actual competition events because it's too small. Hence having to use it as a events arena to claw back some of the investment. The best thing it has been used for was the COVID vaccines.

The council have tried to make the city too big and grand for years and sadly it has backfired, meaning we have all these social problems and empty shops. And when they have money, they always spend it on the wrong project that nobody asks for.

Very harsh on Derby city council,. Name any other council who had the foresight of building a 20M squid vaccinodrome, ready a pandemic.

It is news to me that you can cycle in it as well, very clever design. I sleep easy at night knowing that my council tax is always well spent

  2. What has always puzzled me is why the UN is absent. Take Cyprus, there is a no man's land border separating northern Cyprus from the south. Why can't they have something like this around Gaza. Israel have made Gaza a 21miles long prison for years. Hamas are a proxy for the Iran nutters as I understand it. Two wrongs have never made a right, simple as that. As several posters have said it is one hell of a s*** show.

I understand all of that but the question I don't understand is how they can build a similar length project in France for €8bn in five years and ours cost five, six, seven, eight times that and will not be ready for another ten years. I just don't understand the reason for the huge differential.

My uncle was quite high up in the SNCF, the French state railways. Every time there were budget reviews and cuts were discussed or a sniff of privatisation, his stock answer was always if you want to make it more expensive and not working,  look at how it's done in England.

What ?!?! One of the best sets of fans I’ve ever heard !!!

Even when we scored they didn’t shut up !!

Good set of fans, best ever may be not. The exception being the first class idiot who jumped over the barrier on the south stand to throw a couple of missed punches , missed their equaliser and ended up in handcuffs.

That and the pen are the most memorable bit of action. It wasn't an easy watch, the match that is.

Urgh. Another red card inbound. After the 4/5 that got missed on the weekend, they've got to give this one now, I suspect.

EDIT: Phew. Common sense prevails and it's still 15 vs 15. Uruguay playing out of their skins. Disallowed try but they are flying 🙂

We (France) need a strong second half. Uruguay are up for it. TMO still works a lot better than VAR. The players reaction to referees decision is great to watch, footballers watch and learn.

  6. When in France a friend of mine told me his mate came back from Belgium and brought a box full of trappist beer. He told me try this one, Tynt Meadow, 7.4%, absolutely stunning. It's made in Leicestershire. That might save @Eddie a few quid on the import duty.

  7. I went today and it's the only friendly i have seen so can only judge by what i saw.As we stand problems we had last year with wing backs remain. PW favoured system is going to be difficult to implement, 1st half it just did not work. Only when Forsyth was introduced that it looked better. The thing is we can't rely on him to play a full season in that position. It may not be easy, again.

I'm pretty sure footballers love the pressure, that is why they get into it. He could still possibly win Champions League/Premier League/Euros medals. Or he could get yet more money. I'm sure his family and close friends are already comfortabley off.

And they are just the footballing reasons too, before considering the moral concerns vs yet more money.

There is also the pressure they feel when seating on top of a fat wallet. I would have thought that this lovely feeling eases the moral concerns. Short career and all that

If that’s the genuine offer, then I struggle to see how any involved can reject it. Mbappe. Insane amounts of money, Mbappe ends up at Madrid anyway, PSG avoid any FFP sanctions and Saudi soaks up the financial burden whilst getting a one year reputation boost for the league.

Mbappe has won everything except for the Champions League, which probably won’t happen until he goes to Real Madrid anyway.

More money than sense has never been so appropriate for the Saudis.

Mbappe and his family who advise him are very smart. If they accept the offer I have no doubt that they will be seeing a way out to a big European club shortly after the move to Saudi kingdom
