Who was the job big enough for then? Who was available,  had considerable experience and success getting out of this division, was willing to drop a division and come into a club coming out of turmoil with a patchwork squad?
The reality is, none of us know what stage the deal was at when PW’s club-recorded video was authorised for release last week. But the reality is Knight was never playing Saturday, never getting on that plane and was probably 95% certain to be heading to Brizzle for a medical this week. Could it be possible the fee was already agreed but there was a request for the release of details to be delayed by either party?

Must admit i'm struggling to agree with you on this one. There's no way we'd have gotten more than £2.5m for Knight, if clubs rated him that highly they would've paid that already. Bristol City appear to be the only interested party that actually want to put up as opposed to shut up. I think from a squad building perspective it benefits us to get him out the door, even if it means us losing £200k-£300k on his overall fee.
The only other genuine option the club had would've been to have kept him and banked on him helping us up. Then hope we can tie him down after making him see Derby is the only club for him. I think with the pressures from the Ireland boss, this option was unrealistic to happen.
I think Warne was being as honest as he could regarding Knight. Could have dismissed the question? Or played it stone faced? Yes, but would that have resulted in us getting millions more? In my opinion no.

Anyone else feel like they get overly attached to players just because they came from the academy? With a sensible hat on, most of us would admit we'd not be fussed if knight was another freebie we'd picked up from someone like Sheffield Wednesday. We'd probably be celebrating the fantastic bit of business in turning him around for a 6 figure fee.
He has a lot of room to improve, but for me he's not really a massive loss at this point in time. Might be my crap memory, but while he had some good performances after coming back from injury, I don't really feel like he improved the team much.
From his point of view, I don't understand the move to Bristol city. If we'd gone up last year, I'd already expect us to at least be competing on their level in terms of championship ambitions. If we go up next year, Knight could find his old club above him before he knows it. Still, that's up to him. He gets another season at a higher level, so that makes sense. Just seems a bit short-term.

He’s gone to a team I fully expect to be mid table in the Championship.
I expect it was the only offer on the table for Derby.
Pretty hard to negotiate if only one team is bidding! Love these fans who think they would have done better.

£1.75mil to £2 mil is a fair price for someone with only 1 year left. If there’s a sell on % then all the better.
This will also be a boost to P&S figures down the line. Also it will hopefully allow funds to be used on a forward that we may not have hat the money for without this income.

    Good luck Jason

I cannot see why a club would hold for 3 weeks for an additional 100-150k taking into account wages, cost in negotiation , potential injury,  a loss of a transfer target they may need cash in for.   Then come out 50-75 k better off.  Therefore, I think it entirely plausible that this tiny upgrade in offer with a minimal add on came about following our managers interview as a take it or leave it end game knowing they were in the drivers seat.

But Warne doesn’t dictate what the executives in charge of the club do. Warne works for them, not the other way around. Warne could be sacked tomorrow and the Knight sale would still happen. I just don’t see your logic on this one, I’ve disagreed with a lot of your views but can often see the rationale behind them, I just can’t with this one.
Pearce under Clowes instruction will have negotiated the deal, they will have agreed an acceptable price for Knight, and Bristol have met that price. It’s less than some think he’s worth, but it is what it is, he’ll be sold for the price the club agree is acceptable and hopefully that’s then reinvested to strengthen the squad.

Ah right, that’s my own view, the post you replied to was very much tongue in cheek, sorry if that wasn’t clear.
I don’t see how Warne’s comments have suddenly meant the club are forced to sell an asset at less than they would like.
Warne gives his interview, which is vetted and edited before being aired, the comments go out more than likely knowing the deal is done or close to it as they would have known Knight wasn’t going to be on the plane to Spain and the interview sort of softens the impact of that and the transfer story breaking today.

Interesting to see how as a fan base we are incredibly undecided on a player, who is universally liked, and has over 150 games for us.
Some have him down as a Premier League player in waiting, others have him down as a good Championship player and some even less so than that.
I would personally like to think that any 22 year future Premier League footballer would be able to beat out the likes of a 36 year old David McGoldrick and a 34 year old Craig Forsyth in the player of the season voting. I don’t know where his average came out of all our players from the player ratings thread - I’d guess probably outside the top 5? It seems our own opinions on him are somewhat misguided and some are still clinging on to the memory of him as a breakthrough star - our thoughts over the course of the season (and the one before that?) are probably documented somewhere in this forum as an average.

Don’t you get it? Clowes and Pearce simply couldn’t negotiate the price any further with Bristol’s technical director because that no good so and so Warne undermined the whole process by giving his club sanctioned interview with the local media… 🙄

Or you could flip it the other way and say you get out of this division with the oldest squad in the league! (Wednesday).
You can have older players if they're capable. Whilst Fozzy, Davies, Steaman and co were all absolute heroes, they were all way past their peak and could barely run at times. 28-31 year old signings don't worry me at all as long as they're the right fit.

Talk about finding a negative. ! Knighty wants a higher level, football below the PL is skint. His contract is running down. If we end up with 1.5 mil and a useful player on top then that is ok for me in this financial environment. The days of 7 figure fees from the lower leagues are gone for now.

I will be hugely sad to see his amazing passion and engine room ability go, especially to an also ran club, but we have to be practical. Being practical isn’t “ridiculous”.

A deep dive into Wilson seems to show he has a lot of ability, former England youth international, where he played a lot under Steve Cooper - starred in the famous 8-1 win over Germany that seem to go viral, alongside   Foden, Sancho, Hudson Odoi and others.
He had a decent loan spell in League One before joining Forest Green Rovers where he spent a couple of years and did really well. The last season he had 14 assists from right back in a title winning side. He got League Two player of the year and was in the team of the year. A good move to Bristol under Pearson, who evidently wasn’t on the committee when signing him because he doesn’t suit his system.
In terms of finding value, he’s a great pick up and a player that could thrive and grow with us going forward.

Peanuts? Interested to know what you'd think he's worth...
He's 22 years old, wasn't really a stand-out player in League One, and averages about 3 goals per season. He doesn't have a role he's nailed down and has a year left on his contract.
I think he is a good player, but that price is fair. His international manager is obviously hammering in the need for him to play at a better level to continue his international career, which is having an impact. Just like with Bielik. Personally, I don't see how playing for Bristol City is going to propel him to the level that Ireland want him to be, as opposed to us, but each to their own.
If we re-invest the money well, then it's an excellent deal for us. He's a good player, but at this level, that sort of money needs to get you the difference between promotion and no promotion. Jason Knight isn't that player.
