Only just seen result  3 mins ago  F******* Unbelievable,

would not have come up with this in a million years- we are def going up

The Soccer Gods are on our side!

It’s not the soccer Gods, it is the fact that we played three in the middle, with good shape and total purpose. It sped the game up, made the passes more incisive and we were a structured team. This,  coupled with the fact that everyone looked like they knew where should be on the pitch made the game flow.

A good midfield should protect the defence and engineer chances for the attack, this we did throughout, perhaps until CH was brought on and for five it looked like we were going to stagnate again but then Corey moved into the middle and we got on the rails again.

it’s just a pity that in the past, a lot of us have seen the hole in midfield , when just two are played their and almost cried out for this to be noted and changed, to no avail.

I do hope that we can just maintain this for the final two and that lessons are learned.

Its not so much we don’t know how to play through the middle, it is more that the players are not allowed to.

I'm not going to go on about the management team not learning but after 15 minutes it was obvious we had a hole in midfield. If I can see it these that earn the money should. Period.

Even if you get it wrong it's soon correctable but never until 60 minutes...it just pains me.

Crass, naive, stupididity. Not because of, in spite of.

Sorry - I keep trying to support this crew but it's my pension that has paid for next years ticket. Every big event they let me down. That includes Portsmouth too.

Probably going to be about 10 players leaving, it's gonna be a different squad

Look at the difference Adams and Nyambe have made being younger and more athletic players. I think a few more signings like that would suit Paul's style more but I think securing a mid table finish next season would be perfectly acceptable

But we shouldn't worry or look too far ahead as it robs you off enjoying the moment just need to moan less and get behind the lads is all I'm saying and I have seen comments like they aren't enjoying it like we are 2nd to be honest I'm enjoying being up the top end of a table regardless of some bad performances

Paul Warne wins 3-0 and the match thread is about 20-30 pages less than if he loses, that's telling to me that people love to f****** moan 😂😝

That wasn’t quite my point earlier on. The players can in some respects be excused, unless they stupidly head-but the opposition, they are mostly old or nowadays journeyman, they are third division players. Therefore at times poor football is to be expected.

What I was alluding to is that the most inconsistent team member(s) is the coach and his team. They get picked over tactically by lesser teams too frequently and this goes back to last season. We are not learning lessons. The games that we do well at is when the opposition allows us to play.
When PW and his team use midfield correctly and use the footballing common sense they must have (to have got this far in their careers) then the result is usually acceptable. Dumb sticking to the original plan when it isn’t working, until too late, is what cheeses me off. And that is my point, learn by mistakes, coaching team, please.

And those of us who prefer to see the league position as a positive are derided because "it's a rubbish league, with another manager we'd have walked the league, we have the biggest wage budget so should be walking the league, we're only second inspite of Warne not because of him, and we don't deserve it because something, something xG".

As I see it, the main issue is that PW has far too many off days, particularly against opposition that we should be beating. It is obvious tactically. Analyse the match, the pitch was narrow but we set with 5 at the back and a midfielder that should’ve been in the middle playing totally out of position. We have a ball playing midfielder on the bench, when it is obvious to see that CH was playing badly and has no strength in defence longer, the two legged jump, the standard procedure to frighten the opposition, being totally ineffective and not scary in the least.

Then we have the so called most able attacking player in this division, sat on the bench.  Instead of subbing early, we bring 5 on after 65.
as I have stated in my other posts it’s the inconsistency, one match good, another like a rabbit in headlights. I don’t expect every ball to go in the net at this level but I do expect us to limit the opposition by understanding their setup and doing things in mitigation and this should be done quite early in the game, thus our chances should go further. However, I simply cannot see it game after game and it is this that really concerns me.

on a weekly basis we see managers of lesser teams making these changes more consistently and effectively and that has been my charge all the time. Lack of obviously learning from mistakes, making a good decision one week and repeating an old one the following week.

I hope that for the last few weeks, we do not have to continue this Groundhog Day. I just want success.

There were 3 changes in formation in 15 minutes at the start of the second half.
2 minutes after the third change the ball is knocked into the now vacant left back channel and the penalty ours given away.

the players are all over the place because of the managers tinkering during game.

Totally agree, not the players fault. Tactical naivety. Wildsmith was in error but the situation should not have arisen had Warne not got the team shapeless. These are errors you see with managers of 8 year olds on the Racecourse on a Sunday.

it happens too frequently to be accidental, this is what PW and his team is paid for.  Unfortunately too much belief and too little ability. No admittance of errors.  The list gets longer I’m afraid.

Warne and the players have 11-14 games to get things right. Clowes will be concerned about back to back losses but ultimately he will assess the situation at the end of the season when we know what division we’ll be in, so really so should we as a fanbase.

It’s not going to be helpful to do it any sooner. It’s crunch time. We all need to be pulling in the same direction, not getting the knives out after every less than perfect result. People talk about the club being short termist, yet where the manager’s future is concerned, many of our fans are the same.

Clearly Warne and the players are feeling the pressure, and need our support to get the job done. Instead, if last night is anything to go by, the players and the manager will be dragged over the coals.

People believe we have the best squad in the division and should be achieving more, but it doesn’t really add up. This is a League 1 group of players with the kind of limitations that are rampant at this level. Players don’t make the mistakes ours do and switch off in the way ours do with the same regularity in the Championship and above.

Portsmouth have set the pace and led the way since early on and look fully deserving of promotion. We need to step up and show we deserve it too. If we don’t, Barnsley, Bolton and Peterborough will definitely oblige.

Last night was a worry but we have to believe while it’s still possible.

It’s the tactical naivety that’s the issue. Nearly every opposing coach worth his salt has done one on Warne. Unfortunately whatever league we are in, the other coaches are better. Quicker to change , quicker to apply and overall more resourceful.

i have given him the time but I’m afraid he and his team are out of their depth. It’s  No excuse time now, last night the cracks were chasms and my patience with him has gone. I’ve tried to sit on the fence and occasionally point out these failings but instead of course corrections there are glaring gaps in this management team’s ability.  As ever there is always an excuse. Never “hands up, I got it wrong, we need to re-appraise our approach. “

The lack of contrition about where the problems are suggests that this is always going to be a concern.

It’s too late to change it now but this is not what the club needs.

First 20 mins ok, set piece and Cash goal, nice. Bird and Cash standout players … as for the rest of the game ?

Horrible horrible horrible. Head tennis, poor passing, the lack of basic ball control from so many players was embarrassing.

Silly mistakes lost us that .. but was Joe outside the box when he fouled their man ? I guess I  must have black and white glasses but he looked to be at least a foot outside his area at the moment it happened ? And their No 33 was a dirty cheating sod. However, none of that excuses the limite and skills on show tonight. Need to get it sorted for Saturday. We are better than this.

Unfortunately, I am beginning to believe that on genuine evidence PW and his team are woefully inadequate. Tactically naive, they allow other managers and their coaching teams to take total advantage of any and every strategic tactical decision. I was never expecting Pep, but this is bettered on local playing fields by many a under 8's coach.

Basically it lets us down. Even if by fluke we get promoted, I am sorry that we cannot sustain this. I have never been anti Warne and Co but did note my reservations and concerns quite a while ago (these were quite obvious, so everyone else noted them) but no-one in the coaching team appears to learn.

I'm not a spring chicken having watched Derby For around 63 years and I 'm not saying I remember that much in my early years (but I have seen a lot of football, in my time)  but an older guy said to me tonight, after the match; that the manager is just a PE teacher and his only answer is to get quicker, unfortunately, the technicians have caught up. This is 2024, this I am afraid is a cul-de-sac.

You speak in more riddles than PW 😀 What exactly is the supporters mantra? What involvement are you seeking?

I’m with @Gaspode on this one. We pay our money and what we “deserve” is to see a game of football (the quality of the football on display may not have always been worth the entry fee but that’s another matter) and statements from the club (or manager) when they deem it appropriate. I trust DC to run the club and don’t expect a running commentary on its financial position. Equally, I don’t expect a breaking news article from the club every time we’re interested, making a bid for or have been rejected by a player. Frustrating as it is, I think we just have to accept that PW and his recruitment team are doing the best they can to find the players PW thinks we need (unless any off us want to stump up and buy the club off DC).

What riddles and why  the aggressive way of responding? Clearly you have jumped to a conclusion before reading a very short statement.

I think this is the very reason I don’t normally comment here. Any courteous person would just ask the questions, such as you phrased well in the second part of your sentence.

I am  stating that we have had no clarity on our financial position, no feedback to the fans, no update on progress with EFL, and as for the “mantra”, can you  not remember all of the football is for the fans and community stuff, in the  House of Commons? Or is my memory letting me down.

For all we know  all this transfer talk could be all BS. Now I don’t want to know the ins and outs of our wheeling and dealings, just it would be a nice to know  with a statement to say , that we are, for example, not going to get trampled on by footballers agents. Hence any delay.  Instead we just get “ITK’s” drip feeding nonsense all over the place. It reads exactly the same in the DET.  Again clarity.

I would like the club to give, as I suggested, stakeholder updates as to our progress from our period of instability, I’m not asking for much and it would show that the club has the interests of the supporters community at heart. Simple really and no riddles.

I am not sure we have a “right” to anything but you have a point. DC clearly isn’t going to reveal his hand as that would damage any negotiating stance but that reassurance you refer to could be given in so many ways.

The club is trading profitably, (or breaking even or losing money at an acceptable rate given the stage of rebuilding we have reached ) wages are now x percent of turnover. Income is as predicted, certain legacy liabilities have been met / not met / will be met by a certain date. It would be hugely helpful to know these basic things.

I totally agree with you.  It’s a stakeholders statement. No entitlement,  just  an acknowledgment of the contribution made by the fans  and a view of our situation, moving forward.

Rubbish - you stump up your money to be admitted to the games - that’s all. Believing that ‘we deserve’ anything else is all so much entitled ballcocks….

I don’t think your statement reflects the sentiment held with all the other supporters who completed the infamous march , in what seems an age ago. What happened to the club belongs to the supporters mantra?

I have no more sense of entitlement than I do, say, with my local council. At least they follow due process.  Perhaps my 60 years + of watching this club warrants my involvement and many I am sure, think likewise.

  11. The biggest issue is the we all lack clarity and transparency on whatever is going on/ not going on. Most of us have stumped up hard earned money for a long time, for our labour of love. All we need is a little assurance. It’s called management. We deserve a little more, that’s all. From whoever, I dare say….  DC maybe?

  12. I remember something equally as loud as a drum, that as kids we all took to the BBG.

Rattles, remember them, I had a big war-time air-raid rattle, that was given to me. I could hardly wield it. It had black and white tape on it and didn’t half make a noise. When we got promoted from division two my family all had season tickets.  We all used to meet up nearly three hours before the match. I used to take my transistor to listen to In concert, before the match. In Concert was at 1.00. Led Zep at the BBG, lol.

Post match interview with PW was concerning. I don't think he saw the same game as some of us.

And that has been the issue for quite a while. If he doesn’t genuinely see where the problems are he cannot course correct. A lot of us see it and he and his team appears not.

I noted that a long time back and I feel the management team rode their luck in a few instances last year. They are too slow to counteract opposition strategy and at times do not even recognise it is occurring. The lack of movement now  and basic triangulations certainly worry me as it is a basic part of modern football and many times this evening, we could not overlap as the strategy and structure had not even planned for it.

Our ex goalkeeping coach nailed it on RDerby, when he said after 26 minutes it needed changing. I’m behind the technical area on the West Stand  and have been for over ten years and folks were shouting to the management about movement, shape, desire, press and playing to feet. What we got was deafears  - I personally feel that they are like deer in headlights, it’s all too much and they are now blinded by the challenge. Hopefully not too pig-headed.

I have genuinely wanted this management group to be successful  but the bravado is too much, we need tactics not jokes, we need polish not placating, and we need serious tactical, structured, strategic football and not Sunday morning hoofball .

PW and his team can make this work but ego and big boy humour has to be diluted and professionalism has go to come to the fore, this is not the division that it was a few years ago but one that has been reshaped by too many would be prem dropouts. Time for PW and his team to grow some bits below as they’re out their comfort zone now.

I just hope they can try to listen, and although we aren’t pros some of us have been watching, what we can seriously remember, of DCFC and football for over 60 years now, so actually we have seen this a bit too frequently.

I seriously wish good luck to PW and colleagues but do hope they start to become humble and learn, as now is the time.

  14. I have not commented on  this forum in years as I have not really had the need but recently I have started to have serious concerns about certain aspects of Warne’s management that he needs to work on , let alone the players.

Firstly it has been quite obvious that Curtis’ legs have gone. Much as I love the guy it was sad to see him look totally lost,  I know that PW said they had a bad day at the training office but it must be obvious that CD is struggling. it must be so easy to see in training, so why play him?
Tactically it could have been altered within the first 15 by bringing Roberts on. Fossie also looks slow on the left and it then exposed Cashin, who then started to wobble as he was not sure who was around him. A good manager doesn’t soldier on, he affects changes. Too much dwelling and no incisiveness. If I and those all around me can see the issue, then why can’t the paid professionals?
Because he didn’t make immediate changes the result was destabilising team morale by changing two players two minutes before half time, that were symptoms of the issue but not the cause.

My major concern is that we underestimate the opposition, as most of the lesser teams are physically aggressive, crunch up the mid-field and do a press on the back four, although the press was not massively evident yesterday. We are predictable and easy to play, opponents stop our game and then we fall into midfield head tennis and channel balls invariably going nowhere. We need to learn how to counter this if we are to progress but i do not see much evidence of this on the field. PW must work on this, along with the development of further strategic planning in the event that a team does A, then changes to plan B and so on; which has been evident from the opposition in many recent games.

One thing that is clearly evident from this league, is that there is a good set of opposition coaches that use quite a lot of guile and gamesmanship to get results. Just running faster is not the answer, we need to be developing other dimensions to our play and taking note of what to expect.

  15. I've not made a comment on here for ages and watch this sad merrry-go-round, continue yeasr after this mess was forecast.

Sad thing is for me is that ten years of holding a season ticket - before that many other seasons, work and having kids permitting and previously owning a season ticket along with my parents in all the 60's and 70's years. Thus my claim of knowingly supporting the club since 1962; yet all this went out the window when this club could not be bothered to contact me or my sons to explain how we could use our paid season ticket games owed to us (From 2 seasons ago) to hack in gainst a new season ticket. Yet it's even worse, they didn't even contact me full stop.

    THis club doesn't help itself.

I am in hosital so have an excuse not to go tomorrow. THis time though I didn't need it as this club offends me.
