My first away game since my brain haemorrhage 3 years ago. I’m absolutely exhausted from standing up for the whole game - I realised I had a choice, I could either stand up or sing! I stood up.  Non football fans are amazed that I consider it worth it to go to a match at the cost of several days knackered. My response is, I can do something I love and pay the price or not go anywhere and be miserable! A simple choice for me!

We rightly pan refs most weeks for poor decisions but he deserves credit this time for getting the decision right. I wouldn't have been surprised if he'd just gone with the linesman.

Not one to be pedantic (honest)  but the first substitute in the English league was in 1965. Also there were no substitutes in the 1966 world cup. Always a great trick quiz question when you ask who were subs for the final.

League game 17 was the one that Derby fans from that era will remember.
Do you remember when the vidiprinter brought up the scores and a big score was spelled out in brackets ?
DERBY COUNTY 7 (seven) LINCOLN CITY 0.
The win put us on 30 points, just 2 ahead of where we are now.
1984/85 game 17 was a 3-1 home win against Doncaster Rovers putting us onto 25 points, 3 behind where we are now

I have memories of Alan Hansen & Mark Lawrenson doing this a lot for Liverpool, passing back to Bruce Grobbelaar
(for a bit of trivia, Grobbelaar grew up in Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) and has said that he grew up as a Derby County supporter)

I'm loving these match reports and experiences, top work !!
It's disappointing that there are many of our European games that weren't filmed (particularly the away games) so this is a great fill in.
I saw this the other day relating to our away trip to Real Madrid in 1975 - rare footage

Am I the only one who thinks this thread should be moved to the non-football thread. It was tenuously related to Derby County at the beginning but has now become tediously political (yes, I know I don’t have to read it!)

Morgan Whittaker is looking pretty good right now, another goal and 2 assists the other night for Plymouth.
I remember watching him for our u23s and he was head and shoulders above our other 'star' youngsters. I know he looked lightweight in the first team but looks like he's now come of age

Or maybe it's the Director General at the BBC that you should contact, not the Tories.
"Around £19 million from the BBC’s local budget will be “reprioritised” from broadcast services to online and multimedia production."
So the BBC would rather spend your money on attracting a younger, probably woker audience
Why don't they just shelve the Eurovision Song Test, that'd save loads of money

Arrived in Derby 07:00 and walked up to Pride Park in the dark and the light drizzle. Took a couple of photos and escaped the rain sitting down in Greggs. Made a move back into Derby but the heavy rain came down, so nipped into the Starbucks drive through and dried out. The lack of sleep on the overnight  megabus, caught up with my boy. Walked back into Derby and strolled around the shops, nipped into Waterstones with the intention of buying my mate the ‘Groundwork’ book, but nothing Derby related in the sport section, and with the Derby Book Festival on, pretty disappointing.
Met my mate in The Kitchen on Sadler Gate for Breakfast at 10am. Tried The Old Bell at 11am for beer but doesn’t open until 12, so popped to The Slug & Lettuce for drinks. Tried checking into the hotel at 1pm, but no joy, so enjoyed some more beer. Walked along the river about 2pm and was in Pride Park for about 2:15pm to hang the Aberdeenshire Rams flag up.
Enjoyed every second of the game and was really impressed especially with James Collins pressing and work rate and if every other player gives that commitment on a regular basis then we will get promoted.

Another great weekend like the one I had with 2 mates 23 years ago, this weekend, when we drove down to Derby from Westhill via the Glasgow Barrowlands on the Friday night to enjoy Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros before arriving in Derby bang on 3pm to watch the Rams beat Chelsea 3-1.

I like most on here have watched years of football and seen thousands of players but sometimes you don't appreciate how good a player is until he plays for your team.
Nathaniel Mendez Laing falls into that category for me. I've always considered him a bit of a flighty player who is largely anonymous, a bit lazy but who might get you an occasional goal. Having now watched him for a dozen or so games I think that he is a quality player, with bags of skill, a team ethic and who isn't afraid to work his socks off. I'm surprised how many of our goals he seems to be at the heart of.
In my opinion he is probably our signing of the summer and if we are going to be successful it will be due, in a large part to him.

Game 14 was a 2 -1 home defeat to rapidly improving Plymouth Argyle - who were to end the season in 2nd place
This took us to 25 points, 4 points ahead of our current total of 21
In 1984/85, a 1 - 0 home win against Brentford took us to 21 points - the same as we have now

League game 13 was a midweek 2 -1 away win at Gillingham who featured a right back soon to be a Derby player - Mel Sage
This was the 5th league win in a row for Derby and temporarily put us 2nd in the table, taking us to 25 points
Reading dropped their first points of the season with a draw. This ended an astonishing run of consecutive victories.
In 1984/85, game 13 was a 2 - 0 away defeat at Rotherham taking us to 18 points

League game 12 from 1985/86 was a home victory over York City which took us to 22 points after 12 games - 2 points ahead of our current total.
This was our 4th league win in a row and moved us up to 4th position in the league
After an injury to Trevor Christie in the 1st half, 19 year old Andy Garner came on to score both Derby goals.
The match report mentions another rule which I'd forgotten about - teams were allowed to pass back to their goalkeepers and apparently York did it 40 times in the game !!
    ( Game 12 in 1984/85 was a 0 - 0 away draw at Walsall which took us to 18 points )
