I saw Hutchinson take a touch on Saturday that certainly raised my eyebrows. The talent of a young player isn't so easy to judge in terms of their goals and assists at academy level, but their close control and ability to move the ball within the first one or two touches. I think Hutchinson has something that makes him a very bright prospect. He will have a lot of opportunities here; he's very similar to Bird so that's who he has to beat out for a starting spot - at least for now.

Was a little glimpse on why Brighton were upset when he walked out on them with him not seeing a pathway forward and got games at Southend before we moved in.

And yet the one that mattered created the goal.
Good goal well taken. Thought Hutch had a couple of good shots on Saturday too.

well done last night boys , while Festy , Watson and Rav rightly get the plaudits , id like to give a big shout out for Hutchinson and Jordan Brown who both after initial shaky starts last night grew into the game , the maturity , composure , guts and tenacity of these two boys was first class , looking forward to the continued development of these two and the rest of the Academy boys , the future while not bright at the minute is beginning to glimmer COYR

Hit the wall with a free kick and walloped the rebound in to the back of the net at more or less high velocity armour piercing velocity … Did very well. Covering for young ones and picking nice passes. Got a sweet touch. If we get round pegs in round holes he could be a maestro.

Have to say I had my head in my hands for the first 20 - reminiscent of the Chorley game where our youngsters were simply out muscled. Rabbits in headlights sprung to mind.   But then I feel they gave themselves a slap and dug right in.  We clearly have some young talent at this club and that talent showed.
Festy was brilliant going forward and was the spark we needed to get going.  Yes he has much to learn, and you could see Fozzy talking to him, but he has the potential to set this league alight.  Destined for right MF?
I thought Brown did really well - under the radar maybe, but did everything needed without fuss. Lots of guts to volunteer for a penalty at the end.
Louie Watson grew into the game and was all over the place - looking for the ball every time.  A confident lad, shown when, like Brown he stood up for a pen.
Sibley improved but took a while to get into the game I thought. Unlucky not to score.
Stretton worked his socks off and really should have rewarded his effort with a goal.
Morrison looked frustrated at times when getting himself into some good positions only to not get the ball.  Clearly wanted to make an impact hence why he dropped so deep to get the ball.  I thought his movement was great, showing so really good touches. His half-volley goal was class. He could turn out to be just what we need - he seemed genuinely happy to get his goal.
Yes we remain extremely thin on the ground, but IF we can keep injuries to a minimum then I don't think we'll be looking over our shoulder at the bottom 3.  There's some great talent in this team, if not experience and that will grow with each game.  It may only have been Salford, but they're a team on the up, full of confidence and favourites to win the league.  It was a great, confidence building game for our youngsters and Rooney was spot on when he said they'd left the pitch as men.  Roll on Saturday.

Yes he did Roy and how !
! Kept his cool - ball was wrong side of him for a straight shot. Sorted his feet out, turned the defender at the same …. Lovely skill. Joz started it all by keeping the ball and breaking forward instead of passing backwards … rare moment of positive after the first 20 mins … and we were rewarded

Jozwiak's pass makes that goal happen. Plays it through the lines to Sibley and it became a 4 on 3. That's been a rare sight over the previous 2 seasons.

Thought he took his goal really well. Another youngster who looks to have lots of potential. Here's his goal that started the fightback. The video on Insta shows the good work from Joz in the build-up. The tweet only shows the pass.

That was a tactical swap with Hutchinson after about 25 mins. He (and us) controlled the game from that point on.
In England we need to rid ourselves of the concept that a deep lying midfielder needs to be a tough tackling defensive one.
That position is where you want your best passer, the one who is most comfortable on the ball.
Played alongside Shinnie (or Bird eventually) he would be great there.

I suspect Morrison was only in 2nd gear to preserve his energy for Saturday. Played very deep and didn’t get too involved apart from some mercurial switch passes. His goal showcases how he can pull something out of nothing. That will do him the power of good.

I think he did have a good game - considering his youth. Always hand up, in space running for the ball but their left flank was very strong and bullied him a bit he didn’t give up though. He was always wanting to advance which I think was one of the reasons Morrison kept dropping back a bit too much. I think he needs a year to build his strength.

Just in passing, on the pens, they were all clean and hard .. I thought Brown hit his with real venom, thought it would bet stuck in the bottom corner it was that much force behind it.

Wow. I saw it totally different to you. Thought he had a really good game, always looking for the ball, going forward. Not that easy to get the ball off.

Most entertaining game of football I have watched since lampard was in charge. I know it was only Salford but honestly how great was it to be back in the stadium listening to fans sing to an empty North stand “give us a song”. Lots of goals won at the end a players that clearly care about Derby county!
On to the positive points from the game
Ebosele - great to watch will be a very good player his pace is scary fast.

Morrison - Can Rooney be the one to make it work for him? Good game overall can’t remember him loosing the ball, he keeps the ball moving well and at times ran at players who clearly didn’t fancy trying to tackle him knowing they'd foul him. Moved into CDM in second half and I thought it really suited him as he seemed more comfortable taking from the defenders and playing forwards, first half the midfielders didn’t take in forward often just recycled it. Part of his game I didn’t expect was he can put in a good tackle and read the game well when covering. One moment in particular though he thought he was fouled in the first half and he looked like he was about to have a paddy and feel sorry for himself that he didn’t get the foul but his first look up was to Rooney and not the ref. He got straight up and tracked back hard. IMO he may have a lot of respect for Rooney. Good goal and the fans sang his name. Really good start to his Derby career, I do think confidence is going to be massive for him.  (Only Salford though and he needs to take this into Peterborough!)
From the squad, whereas this squad is lacking in quality, it seems to be making up for it in morale and togetherness. All the players celebrating together, calling for decisions together. Kissing the badges and engaging the fans. Sometimes it’s the underdogs that do well on the back of a bad situation and hopefully that will lead to a moderate safety for us this season.

He worked hard, made runs, won some corners, made himself available but I don’t think he’s anything like ready.
seriously out muscled, didn’t seem tricky enough to actually get the cross in and Joz was crying out for to do wall passes/give and goes but too often he’d play safe. Morrison was playing left back sometimes as cover and Fozzy had to bail him out at the end. He’s a good lad with the right attitude but he needs time to grow in my opinion.
