Asking the wrong person but can't imagine anyone in this league paying him what we are.

I didn't see anyone moaning about the signings of Ward, Elder and Bradley but it doesn't mean they're good players on inspection, does it?

Hourihane is fine at this level but you can't ignore his age, mobility and how he fits with CM's currenlty at the football club (Bird, Thommo). I think it's a worthwhile point to consider, if he is our assumed highest paid player - could we have got in two younger, more effective CM's instead that offer us a it more in areas in which we're lacking.

I appreciate it was bodies in over the long term plan last season but a year down the line I'm unsure whether our rushed business was great and is a major part of the pickle we find ourselves in.

I doubt Hourihane was a ‘body over off the line’ deal. It was an ‘OMG a player from a premier league club is remotely interested in coming to us and we are in League 1’ deal. It was too good to turn down.

We could afford it given our restrictions and we did. In an ideal world we would have smashed the league but he didn’t. He needed and still needs younger legs around him.

    Isn’t this half the problem?

A bunch of players who most deem not good enough to be in the starting 11, taking up most of our wage budget. Hourihane has obvious ability but is probably our highest paid player - a wage that would be pretty handy for a rebuild of the football club.

I didn’t hear anyone moaning when we signed the then Premier League player. Shouts of ‘we are going to win the league’ were heard.

It's an interesting thought. Maybe there is indeed a disconnect. We have a 'good budget' for this league and are aiming for promotion but we seem unable to attract players who want to improve themselves? Well Bradley maybe?

Or is it down to the recruitment team? Who were Rotherham's recruitment team - were they the one's who supplied the success?

A recruitment team can only recommend a player. At some point they have to talk to the manager. So either Warne puts people off or the deal we offer is rubbish.

If it was the deal then why have the recruitment team looked at that player. A decent recruitment team would surely establish if the player was available and if they were within our budget.

  4. So if we haven’t got the funds why were we able to recruit who we did last year? Connor Hourihane, Tom Barkhuizen, Korey Smith and James Collins all came from the leagues above. They were not put on long contracts, perhaps two years for most, which means the wages were reasonably competitive.

My thought is that Paul Warne isn’t attractive to some players. At the end of the day he is a nobody. He is an ex Rotherham player who struck lucky when they gave him the job after Kenny Jackett left. Paul had only played in the lower leagues and had no reputation. His playing style isn’t attractive and I believe he has no pulling power.

Liam Rosenior was known in the Championship and at mid / lower Premier League teams. In my opinion he had a lot more pulling power.

Why are we constantly linked with Rotherham or ex Rotherham player? Because they know Warne and no convincing is required.

We have the ground, which is better than most Championship clubs, and the training facilities. We have a tier one academy and we get 25,000 plus crowds in League 1.

I get there is a lot of frustration about and fully understand it was a bit of a daft comment last night but…this is all a bit of an over reaction. Radio Derby have helped and they’ve fuelled the fire of those online.

I thought the main point Warne was getting across that there is players who need to stop turning up to games believing they are better and will automatically win games. Don’t believe the hype. I don’t have an issue with this, to be honest it was something that was needed to be said last year.

with the ‘head turned’ comment, what he’s trying to say isn’t about the players effort but it’s about the backwards and sideways passing and players being safe on the ball. It’s not a conscious effort that a player wants a move, it’s that a player is being safe on the ball as they don’t want to be seen as making mistakes, which then has a detriment to the team and Warne as the manager. Yes it’s not the best way of putting it, but I’m done with making excuses for players too. We all like pretty footballers but it’s nothing if you aren’t using that skill to go out and win games of football.

From what I heard in the interview Warne pretty much threw the players under the bus.

Chris Martin doesn't have the physical assets needed to play the Warne way. I'm not saying he won't be coming but we've got more chance of signing Harry Kane... PW would like him, he doesn't think Coldplay fits the profile of the player he wants.

You mean Martin can play football and isn’t a headless chicken who runs around without purpose.

  7. I have watched his after match interview and to be honest I don’t think he wants to be here. He says a lot of things were wrong in terms of how we played, which begs the question around pre-season.

Why haven’t we utilised the premier league loan market? We should have two exciting young talents with us for the season. Yes, I know we may have tried and failed but I doubt it.

It seems Warne has one way of playing and one formation. If that doesn’t work then he doesn’t know what to do.

Liam Rosenior wasn’t right for us, we gave him a chance out of loyalty, and neither is Warne. This is my opinion only. There is a chance Warne is gone by the end of September and by Christmas he will be back at Rotherham.

  8. This is a desperation signing as we may have missed other targets and need another striker.
He was available before August yet we sign him just as the season starts.

Oh and then ‘he bleeds black and white’ rubbish, well he doesn’t. He jumped ship as soon as he could when we got relegated. If he really wanted to stay he would of done what Curtis did and waited to resign.

We need a striker, he needs a club and is probably still fairly local.

In actual fact, when Warne left Rotherham they were nicely placed with 14 points from 9 games, which over the full season, would have seen them finish in 5th. Whereas the new manager's record would have ended up with 44 points, equal with Reading and Blackpool. They went from over 1.5 points per game with Warne to less than point per game without Warne.

In actual, actual fact Rotherham without Warne, had the equal lowest points per game average along with Blackpool, Reading and Wigan both received points deductions.

But they still didn’t get relegated, which they did do twice before with Warne in charge.

  10. It is brilliant we have kept the category one status but in reality who have we actually produced?

Will Hughes is a bit part player for Palace and he was probably our best rated academy product. Even going back 20 years we produced Chris Riggott but he never got past Middlesbrough, who were a mid table premier league team.

The academy is seen as hugely important but have we really seen any benefits from it. It doesn’t help us in the here and now. It may help us in five years time but I doubt it. Any potential top class player will be poached (Delap and Gordon).

  11. Is Paul Warne an attacking coach / manager? I would argue that he is a pragmatic manager hence the reason he will play 3 - 5 - 2.

I can’t see us being free scoring and dominating possession. I see us playing in the same way Billy Davies did.

We will win games 1 - 0, score from set pieces etc.

Look at what's happened to other 'big' clubs when they go down to League One. Sheffield Wednesday, Sunderland, Ipswich, Forest etc. The evidence shows clubs like ours generally don't bounce back at the first attempt.

That doesn't mean it shouldn't be the aim but it does mean that Rosenior shouldn't be considered to have 'failed' if we don't do it. A top 10 finish is success given what the club's been through recently.

So because they failed it means we should to? We have a team full of players who until last season we’re playing in the league above.

It is good to see our victim mentality will mean we can play poorly with no recompense.

The current player we are trying to shoe horn into the right back position gave a penalty away today, so it can't be much worse to play a recognised right back there even if they are inexperienced.

Knight needs to be in midfield. Play literally anybody else at right back

I actually think Oduroh would benefit playing next to Davies. I always remember Ashley Cole saying playing next to Tony Adams really helped him. Adams would tell him where to go and when to do things. This turned him into a world class left back.

  14. Just now, Red Ram said:

I'd like to see Knight in midfield too. He's a very good right back but he's wasted there. But apparently Chester and Smith can both play right back and I suspect Rooney could too so it can still happen.

This is a transitional season. Rosenior's performance should be evaluated at the end of it unless we look like we're going to go down. He needs time and deserves a proper chance.

It is not a transitional season. We can’t be happy for to bum around in league one whilst Liam ‘learns his trade’. The aim is to get promoted straight away.

Chester is too old to play right back and Smith would be the same as Knight, a centre midfielder playing in the wrong position.

The issue now is we play Oduroh and risk mistakes or we try to convert someone into a right back. Either way it is a risk.

  15. Can I ask what Liam has done to warrant another job. If the result tonight stays the same we are upper mid table. He has a very good team yet we struggle in most games.

Now I know most will say ‘well they need to gel’ but how long does that take? Six months?

If we are not comfortably in the play offs by Christmas, I am taking a four point cushion, then questions need to be asked about his position.

David Clowes clearly isn’t that struck otherwise he wouldn’t be our interim manager.
