Now that the early 70's are being mentioned, allow me to introduce Icelandic prog rock from that time.
It's Saturday night and if you're still at home you've got nothing better to do, you might even enjoy a tune or two.

We'll start at 1970 with a band of considerable local stature, Trúbrot
Jump to 1972 for a hypnotic track by SvanfrÍður.  This vinyl album What's Hidden There goes for big money in collector circles.
In 73' Icecross produced this unholy track.  Between the sinful, this album goes for tons of cash as well.  I know the singer-guitarist, am sure he wishes he had kept a few dozen copies for a rainy day.
1974 now, my favorite of the bunch, Pelican

Always wondered where he carried them. Bet he gets funny looks in the street.

Where are these £15-20k/week for Sibley's contract coming from? There's no way that he was awarded a contract of that value aged 19 after 10 albeit impressive performances at the end of the 19/20 season. The likes of Salary Sport have him at £8K, which sounds far more plausible.

I love the Bowie version , but I think the Nina Simone original is an absolutely stunning piece of music. Apparently Bowie took Nina out for dinner to ask her permission to do the cover.

In December 1982 a world record attempt was made.  For 14 days straight local bands played one after the other in what was termed a marathon concert.  The minimum stage time for any performers was 6 hours, broken into 45 minutes on stage with a 5 minute rest and go again before the 5 minutes were up.  A friend of mine and my job was to keep everyone supplied with whatever needed, cords, food, instruments, etc and to make sure that bands kept to the 5 minute rule.
One night from midnight to 6am Tappi Tíkarrass played on the small stage in the cellar.  I had heard them before, but this became a private concert, I was the only attendee.  They kept to the rules, ignored me seated on the sofa and pounded through their program of what seemed like over a hundred songs, many I had not heard before or after.
This girl probably has something I thought to myself, heh.

Really like some of her stuff this one included, other stuff is a bit too far out.  I think any artist like Bjork takes a lot of influence from Kate Bush who's quietly gone about life releasing music for over 30 years out the spotlight till she got Stranger Thinged.  Kates the daddy.
    Always loved this one.

I love the fact that Kate Bush was thrust back into the limelight by Stranger Things. The current generation of young 'uns seem way more inclined to give older music a try and I agree totally with their view that KB is pretty amazing. Earlier generations seemed more inclined to 'stay in their lane' which is a shame as there's unlimited treasures to be found by those who with more open minds. I agree though that for most, KB is probably more accessible.
As for Bjork, well she is pretty much revered within the TripHop scene (artists like Portishead, Massive Attack, DJ Shadow et al), though I suspect she'd not be happy being categorised as such. For me, 'far out' is good. It takes courage and creativity to break artistic moulds, particularly in the Stock, Aitken, Waterman era and Bjork clearly didn't give a damn what folk thought, she just did what she did. I had a big crush on her when I was a kid, which probably also played into it!

Still as wondrous as anything I've ever heard over 30 years after I first heard it. I rate Bjork right up there with bands like Radiohead, Portishead and Massive Attack. All iconic, all utterly unique.

Beautiful and mildly terrifying at the same time. Never seen this sort of fissure eruption before, only the more traditional volcanic stuff. As always, I trust you and yours and your fellow Icelanders foer that matter, are staying safe.

There appears to be this popular human need to compartmentalize everything and everyone, I get that, at the same time that it annoys me, especially if I am to be generalized, wrapped up, classified, boxed and housed on a widely agreed upon shelf.
Some actually take it upon themselves to speak for a whole collection of obviously widely differing individuals, such as so called generations that do not account for those born on it's borders any better than astrology.  The worst of these offenders IMO are the feminists, who will look you in the eyes and seriously without breaking character or cracking up, earnestly announce to you the wants. needs and opinions of all earthly women.
Yet, I must concede, there is this to ponder:

An explosive eruption began today at Sundhnjúkagígar, close to Grindavík.  It had been expected as, magma chamber under Svartsengi continued to fill up while the previous eruption was sputtering to a halt, with a so far record amount of magma quantity built up, at last count being 13-20 million cubic meters.  Wind is carrying gas pollution to Reykjavík and east of Reykjavík.  @Eddie

Exactly the same spot as before. The earthquake swarm last night seemed to indicate that we were in for another show. Well, it is tourist season, of course.

And you could say that the closest we came was by doing it the right way.  We built slow and steady under GSE and let Clough build a team - OK, partly their own doing in their first 2 windows.  Sometimes you need to move slowly to move quickly.  I think it’s better to have steady, focused and controlled growth than trying to throw money at it and hope for quick results.

How is "throwing money at it" the same as "running the club responsibly"?
And does anyone think that David Clowes "lacks ambition"? He's probably just a bit more patient in pursuit of it than some disastrous owners and some fans are.
