So is half our team mate 🤣

That seems to have been the strategy under Warne - buy players who haven't played much in recent times due to injury or not holding down a starting spot and gamble that they can regain form and fitness here. Waghorn, Washington, John-Jules, Wilson, Embleton, Sonny and now Adams all had injuries (mostly serious) the season before signing for us so hadn't played much football. And nearly all of them have once again picked up injuries since signing for us.

    Yep

when you look at it like that it doesn’t make for good reading 🥲

  2. We are all on here this evening hoping to get a decent striker in but I have a feeling we’ll chuck money at wendies for Smith or Gregory very late ….i do hope not though

Thinking about it though go get Sam Smith from Reading as I think that is doable and won’t be a bad signing at all

Unfortunate that he has got a better move late on which is out of our control, but you’d expect us to have backups. Piss poor if we don’t get someone in.

    1 fit striker…

Yep I don’t care for excuses about restrictions etc etc just do your job and get a couple in ffs everyone seems to have strengthened …we need a striker not Gregory!!! To be honest if it’s true the medical was for Ennis going to be difficult with what time is left to get a decent striker in ….i will be hugely disappointed if we don’t

The more I think about the Jonson Clarke-Harris thing, the less likely I think it might happen. Their chairman is all mouth, and boy does he love himself. It may well be we think we're deep in good faith negotiations to sign JCH before the deadline, but I would not be surprised for a second if MacAnthony turns round at 11pm and says "of course I'd be mad to sell a star striker to our promotion rivals - I was just stringing them along so they didn't buy anyone else". Time will tell...

But maybe they want Sibley or Fornah and a swap could be on the cards 🤷 would look different altogether if they think they’re getting a good deal

If Bird leaves late on, it smacks of late desperation trying to bring a forward in. Would not be impressed at all

If he won’t sign a deal do you want to lose him for peanuts ? just how much do you think we’d get ?

    my guess is 1m tops

A/ Which signing did you not  like or was keen on but turned into a great signing in your opinion ?

I thought we'd spaffed money up the wall on Vydra. He came good after a slow start and we made a profit on the sale.

B/ Which signing did you want so much yet turned out to be not so great ?

George Thorne. No blame attributed to anyone, just bad luck. I didn't care how much West Brom squeezed out of us, I was absolutely convinced he would be a superstar.

C/ who pound for pound for what we paid has been our best value for money signing ?

    Stefano Eranio on a free.

D/ who has been the worst waste of money

Liam Dickinson is worth a shout here. Not massively expensive at £750,000, but never played a single minute of football for us.

I remember the Dickinson transfer at 750K , it was a gamble and always thought how bad he must've looked in training to never get a chance ...wow ...

To be fair to Bielik, he pretty much kept us up with his run of appearances in the season we stayed up on the final day. Keeping us in the Championship for the admin season that followed may have had a bigger impact than we'll ever know.

Its a pity we didn't have him this season because I think he would've made a huge difference to us, I'd say definite top 2 if he was part of  3 man midfield but he was never going to play in L1 again and we had to get his wages off the books i guess...shame though

Paul McGrath - Thought he was well past it when we signed him but what a player!

B/ Which signing did you want so much yet turned out to be not so great ?

Toss up between Jack Marriott and Kamil Jozwiak. Both never even came even close to the hype

C/ who pound for pound for what we paid has been our best value for money signing ?

Stefano Eranio. Absolute Rolls Royce of a Footballer

D/ who has been the worst waste of money ?

Don't know where to even start! Anyone from Grenet, Bragstad, Davis, Blackman, Butterfield, Villa, Fuertes, Bielik, etc, etc. So much wasted over the years 🤦‍♂️

wow yeah Grenet was something like 3m and was poor , I remember Bragstads debut and thought...ouch! lol

    A) Chris Martin

    B) Ikechi Anya, I thought we'd signed that versatile wide player who'd low key be a big part in a promotion side....I was wrong. Not only was I wrong, I was wrong bigly.

    C) Fozzy. I thought about saying Bryson but I feel like his injuries led to him declining to far whilst fozzy remains a good value signing.

    D) So so so so so so so many. I'm going to pump for Anya a second time. It's worse because I believed in him.

lets be honest Anya was soooo bad if i could change my choice  would be  him, forgot about him tbh

the transfer window is my favourite part of the season. Exciting seeing something fresh enter the fray.

A Nugent. As daft as it sounds, thought we'd signed someone who was way passed it.

B Jack Marriott. Thought we had the next Jamie vardy

C Think our best bit of business was Mason mount on loan

    D Nick Blackman/anya/butterfield

Mount was really good for us , I also thought Nugent was past it but I liked him and never forget seeing him in  london with bryson I think it was  day before play off against Villa

    A) Not great but won me around - CKR wooooooo.

    B) Marriott

    C) Martin but financially he wasn’t great because he left on a freebie. Maybe Hendrick if you’re counting signing for the youth team.

    D) Claude Davis - dreadful.

Got to agree on Marriott I really thought we'd signed a proper goal scorer...will never forget his game at leeds though and should've started at Wembley

  12. Yes its true us footy fans just love a new signing , its the excitement of seeing there debut, wondering if they're going to be a hit or not and willing to get the deal over the line, i remember wracking up a huge phone bill phoning the DCFC 1884 hotline where you were teased at the beginning of the automated message with a snippet of transfer news which was right at the end of the message and was usually recycled nonsense that you now hear on the DET but the call was expensive , premium!! and cost too much !! ...so for a bit of fun whilst we wait for our beloved Rams to conclude a deal and swoop for our next hero a bit of fun

A/ Which signing did you not  like or was keen on but turned into a great signing in your opinion ?

B/ Which signing did you want so much yet turned out to be not so great ?

C/ who pound for pound for what we paid has been our best value for money signing ?

D/ who has been the worst waste of money

    my answers are

A/ Wasn't over keen on Marco Gabbiadini but in the end  I loved him, great signing and some great goals and a great name !!

B/ 2 for me Gordon Hill from Man U and  John Robertson from Forest

C/ again 2 for me Dean Saunders and Paul Goddard both brilliant for us

D/ Claude Davis and Mikkel Beck but there has been many

n our current state, we are not likely to attract many players who we can say we are confident about their ability to transition to Championship football.

Sorry I keep disagreeing with you but this is not correct in my opinion

When we had to reset as a club I thought we'd build something and find gems from lower leagues and use the youngsters with our financial restraints I would've been defending us if I saw progress because that takes time maybe a couple of seasons  any club is well capable of moulding a young ish side with a few older heads in key positions to be able to hit the ground running if they reach the  championship , a lot of clubs in fact go straight from L1 and through championship in 1 or 2 seasons  into the prem such is there momentum and fact they've built something sustainable , in our current situation or the situation we were in a young forward thinking coach/manager may have seen DCFC as an opportunity to create something I don't think L1 is particularly strong and the fact we do have good players I'd had liked to see us go a different route i guess...just my opinion ...its not a dig just don't like how we don't really seem to be building anything

I’m not one for making sweeping generalisations about our fan base, the team, the manager or much for that matter. I share my opinions and will engage in debate with people who share opposing views to my own either in an attempt to understand their stance or in a bid to encourage more balance in the hope they can see and respect my view.

The gif was just meant to show how I feel @Srg accurately captured the state of league one and that I share in their assessment.
I didn’t say people couldn’t or shouldn’t want more so please don’t put words into my mouth. It was just meant lightheartedly to highlight what I felt was a good post.
I don’t know that I can be arsed with this place any more 😞

I wasn't have a dig at you just commenting on your post don't take offence as it wasn't meant that way at all and if you think that i apologise

Are you  saying the ones that are saying we could be playing better football are wrong ? more control , better to watch ? just thank the lord we are in the reckoning ? I always want to see progressive football that might take us somewhere .....build something...use the youngsters etc etc no matter what division you are in

What you're implying is lets be a League 1 side whereas I want us to think and play like a good championship side play football and don't sink to L1 standards use our better players that we have  to  our strengths not end to end basketball type football we've witnessed too often ...get stuck in this league too long though and we may well become entrenched in it if we don't think and act better than your average L1 club
