Bird started running the game when we played with a 3 man midfield with 2 other people who can run.
    It's the system

The criticism is for the style of play, the tactics, the team selection, often not reacting to the way a game is panning out.
Even with the budget caps, we are well resourced in this league, the attendances are high and the squad is one of the best in the division.
    "Won 11 in 16".
I'm reminded about Revie asking Clough how he could improve Leeds because "Brian, last season we only lost three games".
Clough replied "by only losing two".
Maybe if our performances had been better, we'd be winning more than "11 in 16".

Far too many people here confuse the two. I really like Warne as a man, for what it's worth. Absolutely huge respect for the charity work him and his coaching staff too.
Imagine thinking that disagreeing with how a manager sets up a football team is somehow vitriolic. Madness.

    Of course.
That said the level of personal abuse of our manager that actually exists is massively overstated and topic names like this one fool people into thinking it's widespread, and that the nature of discussion on the forum has been abusive off the back of the previous result. See David's post earlier, avoided the forum, but really aside from one or two exchanges (of varying length) the discussions have been constructive. Exactly what the forum should be for.
(Some of the below is actually a little tongue in cheek and slightly exaggerated for effect, but some truth lies within!)
Then you get the posts trying to claim that there's a large swell of people who'll simply never like Warne whatever he achieves, which seems to be mainly from people who just have very low standards and see us getting promoted this season as some sort of miracle and have decided that it's an achievement that ranks up there with what Jim Smith or Billy Davies achieved! (It really really isn't) It's almost as if they've bought into the small club mentality.
Plus the old "I see the moaners are coming out of the woodwork after a negative result" schtick, usually spouted by people who've actively been accusing negative posters of 'ruining the board' or similar by 'posting repetitive, boring rubbish' when we weren't playing well, essentially telling them their voice wasn't welcome - then acting like those dissenting voices are committing some sort of crime against Derby County when they speak up after a bad performance/result that's come about because of the issues they'd identified all those months ago, which still haven't been and show no signs of being rectified, or indeed any attempt to be.
That one always makes me laugh. You can't tell people to shut up and then slag them off for being quiet! It I do think there are some who just think the forum should be some utopia of positivity.
There's so lovely low-key 'I'm a better supporter than you' vibes at times too.

    What?
Let's get this straight. We've got one of the best squads, best support, best resources in a tin pot league - we're near the top because of that, not because of Warne's management and style of play.
With decent management, we'd be cruising, getting results while still playing decent, entertaining football.
Would you feel better about watching this dross just because of us getting enough results that put us in with a good chance of the play offs?

    No, it isn't.
Playing game after game so badly that, even after a win today, it actually feels worse than a defeat.
Sorry. Warne out. Let's play football.

I struggle with Warne. I see nothing in the way we set up that gives me any confidence. I don’t really understand what the style of play is, we never seem to have any in midfield, yet somehow we look short up top and in defence. We get results, so I guess something must be right, though I do suspect that it might be due to our players just being individually better, but it’s not a great watch. We’ve won today, but it’s another unconvincing performance. I can’t think of many games over his tenure where I think we’ve played well and we look no different to the way we were after his first few games. If he left tomorrow I wouldn’t be upset

You should apply whatever metric you want Jordan. But until we play like a team that deserves promotion, we should all be worried

Every team has injuries and missing starters and players that need a breather. It's league one. We actually have a deeper squad than most. Not really a valid excuse is it? Everyone accepts that it's better to win the games, but the manner of performances are genuinely troubling. And it isn't a one off. Everyone can understand a one off bad game, but it's becoming a pattern now.

That 'results only' approach is simply not sustainable over the last 17 games. We have to improve our performance levels dramatically or we are going to be punished by the better sides & miss out again. We've just had 2 matches in the past 5 days being outplayed by two teams in the bottom 4, it shouldn't just be glossed over.
No one expects 8/10 performances every week & we will have to win ugly at points but these performances are becoming a recurring habit. The lack of control in games is fundamental to this point..until we can impose ourselves in midfield & whilst we are so cavalier in turning over the ball, we will continue to be vulnerable.
We got out of jail today, make no mistake.

I couldn't agree more with this. There was not one supporter saying that Sibley's challenge should have been a penalty on here (despite some posters constantly wanting to put the boot in on our own players) yet Warne made a big issue of it, not once but twice,  on the RD interview.
No credit either about how much better we looked when we had a midfield - Max in that more familiar role did more in the last 30 minutes than Hourihane has done in several games now.
I thought Collins worked hard and was pleased he got a superb goal for the winner, because he never gives up despite the way we play.

In what way is a game at home against a relegation zone side an "awkard fixture"? That should be as close to a banker as they get. Yes we came back, but we were absolutely foul for large swathes of the game to get ourselves in that position. It's not about picture perfect performances, no, but our win today was completely unsustainable. We scored two absolute screamers, most times we lose that game.
So yes, we scraped by today but it's nowhere near good enough.

If you aren't going to matches every week and just checking the scores then yes results are all that matter.
For people with season tickets and/or regular away supporters it's bloody hard work watching this teams performances for the majority of games.

I cannot think of any. Even the very occasional "ref gifted the opposition the game" eg Bolton we were not playing well.

I’m disappointed when we continually put in mediocre performances. That’s not because I’m a football purist (tho I’d strongly prefer to see good football). It’s because if we play mediocre football we’ll probably miss automatics and probably fail to beat Barnsley, Bolton or Peterborough over two legs

    Two great goals.
The rest was a pile of s****. We all know it and it really isn’t good enough. We need Forsyth and Nyambe back as soon as possible and the midfield needs addressing urgently.
Curris Davies deserved his warm ovation at the end. What a man.

Exactly this. It's bullying. Does the manager think he's being funny? Shame on him, steadily chip chip chipping away at the players who aren't in his clique. For me the best case scenario is we scrape up, Warne gets found out (as he surely will) early next season and we move quickly to bring in another manager.

Another absolutely rancid display by a team that deserved all the booing they got at half time. You’d they’d want to show a reaction after Reading, but they just carried on where they left off.
Tactics all wrong by Warne as well, he has to stop with this two in midfield s*** - it’s no coincidence our bad performances have started since we switched to 4-4-2. Absolutely awful system that has no place in the modern game. Totally overrun yet again.
Fed up of our only tactic being launch it to the wings and whip it in - it’s so one dimensional. When we actually use the midfield and try to play a bit of football through the thirds, then we look so much better! Why can our dinosaur of a manager not see this…
Im beginning to really dislike this team itself, as well as the fraud in the dug out. At least the team that went down had some character. This lot couldn’t give a f***. And as for captain Hourihane… words can’t describe my feelings towards his “leadership”.
We were so lucky to win that game today, it’s only a moment of individual quality from Max Bird that turned it around. It’s time this manager and this team got a f****** grip. Performances this week have been truly pathetic, were meant to be the best team in the league!

Thought the half time boos were justified for once.   Absolute shocker of a performance - even after tne changes we looked no better than their equals - and they were as poor as their  league position suggests.
Thought going on about Sibley getting lucky with not giving a penalty away after was so poor after Sibley had a good game.   Maybe offer a better post match analysis for once instead of seeing everything in terms of individual battles, doing the basics right  and being brave on the ball - though how you can be brave on the ball when you are told not to take more than two touches who knows.

Bird and Collins with two goals that were out of place with the performance have saved  Warne there because I haven't heard the atmosphere in tne crowd that toxic for a long long time.

Just got in from the match.
Glad we got the 3 points, 2 cracking goals, and 1 point behind second place, poor  1st half awful watch, but to hear so called fans boo when Cheltenham score was a disgrace, to do that in the game was a absolute joke, those that boo after Cheltenham score should stay away, and be embarrassed by such behaviour, please stay away, u make it harder for the team to perform with that attitude. And it was great to give Curtis Davis a great reception after the game a true Ram.

I have to agree. The wins came despite the poor football we've been playing. You can get away with playing badly and winning, but once the wins dry up, the pressure is back on. It's the results that kept the moaners quiet, not the performances.
