They say they needed to get lots of players in which is true because they had a fair few loans, but this is taking it to another level.
Forest fans will call it strength in depth but I think it's a bloated squad. They will have players who think they should be starting but end up sitting on the bench or not even in the squad. This isn't man city by the way, this is Nottingham forest. I dread to think of the atmosphere in the dressing room when they are getting hammered week in week out.
I just can't see it working. Getting promoted and then staying in the premier League is difficult. You have to find the balance between sticking with the core of what got you up in the first place but then also introducing better players. Brentford got it spot on and unfortunately you'd have to say so did Leeds in their first season.
Forest are going to have almost a totally new starting eleven. They will have to gel very quickly and the premier League is unforgiving. When has this approach ever worked? My opinion of their upcoming season has gradually shifted as they have brought more and more players in. I think they are going down.

Steve Cooper 18/1 with Sky Bet to be first manager to go. I’ve had a cheeky bet.
With spending all this cash Maranakis will be expecting better than just survival, if it starts badly Cooper could go. Let’s be right, for all they bang on about being such a well run club, Maranakis’ approach to managers and players has been scattergun throughout his tenure with several bad signings and bad appointments. He’s as volatile as they come. They stumbled across Cooper last season, the stars aligned and they got promoted yet to hear them it was all years in the planning!!
We all know Forest’s best bet is give Cooper at least 2 years, if they go down he’s their best chance to bounce straight back, but leopards don’t change their spots. If Forest are in the relegation mire in November before the World Cup he’ll be asking questions and will probably make his move. In fact I think that’s when most clubs will make their changes.

The city ground will be creaking at the seams. Might be 27000 there.
The team selection is probably anybodys guess - even the managers likely got no idea

I get that Forest had big gaps in their squad with loanees returning and out of contract players, but we had a grand total of 5 players and even we've not signed as many as they have.

This is there mo though. Until recently and I believe cooper steadied the ship, they had a ridiculously bloated squad with a real scatter gun approach to recruitment. It didn’t work then, and now they’re returning to it.

100% bang on the debts would have got worse and it would have been curtains for sure, we are very lucky David Clowes has been kind enough to pay over the odds (Event after writing off some of the debt), for us when we were clearly insolvent.  The £53M he paid was a championship value not a League 1 Club value.
I really hope for David Clowes that we go back up and he sees a return on his investment.

I think I agree with Miggins, though I  really do take on board what @Gee SCREAMER !! posts as he has undertaken manual labour in challenging conditions, and he says such conditions can also take place indoors (in fairness).
I do think some flexibility should have been shown, it is probably too late to amend kick-off times, the inconvenience it causes to travelling fans though there is a rail strike on.
But I agree that it will be challenging for both players & fans. (a) the players will be expected to run around in these conditions, hence the official drinks break intervals, and surely they will play with one idea of conserving energy, adapting tactics etc (b) fans will be exposed to extreme heat,  some with health conditions may choose not to attend, but both fans & players are being put at unnecessary risk when our healthcare services & professionals are already under great strain, pre-/(exacerbated) after Covid.

Not sure if you remember the match between Ireland and Mexico at the world cup in 94.  125 degrees.  I actually thought a couple of the Ireland players might keel over after an hour.  Then they played with 10 men for a bit when Aldridge couldn't get on and famously lost his s***. It was that game that instigated the water and supplements during match play breaks, as one of them selected for a urine test had to drink about 5 pints of water in a hour to go for a pee, then got hydration poisoning.
Suppose that's the job though and things have improved.  I've done 8 hours labouring in 90 degree heat on a few occasion and -7 at 8 in the morning during the winter over the years.  Sometimes those giving these guidelines ignore the fact people need to earn money and the fact sitting at a desk for eight hours in an office with a mask on when it's 35 degrees - there own staff, is as little fun as working outside in it with no mask on.

I agree that those who have weight problems are more at risk as well as those with various other health issues, but it is just plain commonsense for all of us to try not to exert ourselves too much in this extreme weather, even those who are fitter. I really don't think that football matches should be played when there is an amber weather warning. Most of our players are not acclimatised to playing in these exceptional conditions.

When the public are being advised by the NHS to avoid physical activity, stay where it is cool etc. why are matches taking place? Why should football matches be exempt from NHS safety guidelines? Football matches in this country were never meant to be played in this extreme heat. Feel so sad and concerned for those having to take part.

First game of the season in the George Burley playoff campaign we played Leeds away. It was about 35 degrees. I remember it well as it was on TV and I cycled round to my grandad’s house to watch it. I arrived dripping in sweat.
We lost 1-0 despite being the better side. I remember us scoring from a corner and it was disallowed as they judged it went out of play first which was nonsense.

Prediction League point scorers for league games, and occasional league tables will be posted in here ..

    PREDICTION LEAGUE RULES
Every league game, I will start a thread on the 'Prediction League' page. I will go through the predictions you post  after each game and look for your prediction, and I'll attempt to keep a league table running.

It would help immensely if you could post the result in the following format

    example :-  Ipswich 0 Derby 2 , Mendez-Laing FRGS

Points will be gained for the following correct predictions:
1 / For correctly nominating the winning team or a draw: +1 point
2 / For correctly nominating the first Rams goalscorer: +2 points
3 / For correctly predicting no Derby goals: +2 points ya miserable b'stards
4 / For correctly nominating the scoreline ,  ** with the teams the right way around ** , +2 points (so 3, including the point for predicting the winning team)
And no conditionals. No "If Sibley starts, then we'll win, but if he's on the bench we'll draw" stuff - pick a result and go for it.
A total of 5 points can be picked up per game.
I'll be looking at the last prediction you make in the thread. Only predictions made before kickoff will count, and if you go back and modify your prediction after kickoff, I'll not count it.

Just for fun and bragging rights , i'll attempt to make League Tables as i did last season , maybe not updating after every match but periodicly depending on how enthusiastic i become , all your predictions will be safely stored on my trusty fag packet  memory stick

**unless blatantly obvious , ie 2-0 Mendez-Laing FRGS , which will be allowed , even if Derby are away ** ..

Please try and avoid using players 'nicknames' as 'FRGS' as i may not recognise them.

NEW PLAYERS  ALWAYS WELCOME AND  CAN JOIN IN THE FUN AT ANY TIME DURING THE SEASON

Kirchner “has been suspended as CEO until further notice,” Mary Athridge, a spokesperson for Goldman Sachs, told Forbes. “We take our responsibility as board members and investors very seriously, as we’ve always done.”
The investors, led by Goldman Sachs, will also be providing more capital to the company to resolve the payroll issue this week, Athridge said, though she declined to say how much. A person with knowledge of the matter said the outstanding payroll was about $4 million.
Athridge declined to comment on why Kirchner was suspended."

But didn’t the system work? They went through various checks and measures, including the fit and proper persons test, but when it came to the last one, show us the money, he got cold feet and pulled out. So surely something in that last test caught something that was missed in all the others, that’s why it exists. So the point is, he didn’t end up owning us, so the system works.
the depressing thing is how much time was wasted coming to that conclusion.

If big American  financial institutions like Goldman Sachs’s etc have been funding Kirchner / Sylnc then I’m pretty sure that would have had a bearing on the Q/ EFL decision ? If he could /is fooling massive financial corporations I doubt the EFL and Admin would fare much better sussing him out.
That’s from a person who is no fan of Q or EFL

Of course this makes you wonder about the fit and proper person rules, but in our case we also had administrators whose sole purpose was to find an appropriate buyer. I've spent a lot of time sympathising with them - they can hardly magic up a bid from nowhere, and we were very hard to sell - but it feels like an awful lot of time and effort was spent pandering to this guy's bs when perhaps it would have been better spent asking questions

How many times have we read ‘We’re not here to make up the numbers’?
Predictions of surviving comfortably? Top 10? Top 8? What am I missing?
You’d think they had won the Championship with over 100 points and signed some world-class internationals from across Europe, given the confidence levels.
Personally I think they are in for a rude awakening.
Awoniyi, Niakhate and Biancone are all unproven and unheralded. Who in Nottingham would have recognised them in the street six weeks ago?
Equally their other new signings Richards, Williams, Toffolo and O’Brien have played the only football of note in their careers in the Championship.
Henderson and Lingard are strong additions but two players can’t make up for gaping holes and deficiencies across the squad.
It’d be a minor miracle if they finished 17th.

Behave, you were getting apoplectic when you heard we were going to sign Hourihane! OK, that's because of what previously happened (understandable), but Forest, if they buy Dennis, could take their spending into nine figures. I think the best way to get promoted out of the Championship - without incurring massive debt - is to build over a few seasons, sell a  player, re-invest, Swansea & Brentford as examples.
Forest are certainly going for it, alright. Going to be broke. Boom & bust, that's modern football. After what happened to us, they're welcome to it.

I was being flippant @Tyler Durden, every city/locality has its exclusive areas. You can live posh in the NW (Cheshire) similar to the Surrey stockbroker belt.
Money is a great lure as well. Footballers are hired guns, they go where the money is. And the PL is where it is compared to other major leagues.
