Ok, forget sentiment for a minute, how about room for a robust and industrious option who looks after himself physically, sets and maintains standards, and showed this season by scoring 19 goals (14 in the league) and 3 assists (2 in the league) that he’s still a good finisher from open play, set pieces and the penalty spot. His game has never been about pace, but he’s shown this season how hard working he is for the team, I think he’d be a good option for one more season.

Collins and Washington as options 3 and 4 up front alongside two new younger options makes a lot of sense to me.

He’s simply not the standard of player Derby County should be keeping hold of this summer!

It’s a great opportunity this window to lower the age profile of the squad as we have a large amount of “senior” players in their last year. Let’s build something that will take us up the championship and not hand out contracts to older players because they made it over the line.

A Championship offence with Collins and Washington won’t stay in the championship for long that’s for sure!

Interesting one this, not sure what role he’ll have to play (if any) in the final games, but with his contract being up in the summer is there one eye on encouraging him to join us permanently I wonder 🤔

A definite no for me. Not been good enough all year for me, being made of glass hasn’t helped either.

  3. Slept on it and still can’t get over how poor we were last night! Absolutely toothless going forward and it’s got to be the worst football I’ve ever seen following Derby! We seem to make every game a scrap and I see no pattern of play evolving over the 1 1/2 years Warnes been in charge.

There have been numerous times this season where we’ve literally had under 5 shots in target and managed to pull a win out of nowhere. It now seems like the luck has ran out, and Warne is showing his true managerial capabilities.

I’m a massive fan of David Clowes’s. But the ideology of employing people who align with the principles of his real estate business in the football world worries me, and makes me think that Paul Warne is here for the duration of his contract.

  4. Seems odd to me that after the Stevenage game the club was committed to backing the manager for the upcoming Jan window. Yes CBT has come through the door but where is the illusive striker we’ve needed since the summer?

  5. Both Smith and Gregory are cast off’s from a team who are struggling like mad at the bottom of the championship. Big decisions are needed to be made in the summer if we are going down this route re recruitment.

You can see why the club are struggling this window. The summers budget was blown on Ward, Elder and Bradley, all of which have turned out to be disasters. It also didn’t help that we went into the season with a 3-5-2 which clearly didn’t suit the group.

Who knows what the rest of the season will bring but we need a revaluation no matter what division we are in!

  6. It’s all opinions re enjoyment. I’ve always enjoyed a direct game where the ball moves from defence to attack quickly. I actually enjoyed a few of the Gary Rowett games. I distinctly remember us turning Fulham over on a Tuesday night where Dave Nugent was on fire.

Gonna get pelters for this but Warne’s football is the worst I have seen in my time watching Derby. We are in the lowest position we have ever been since I have started watching the Rams, and there is such an absence of any football know how on the pitch. No midfield, no game plan, just get it out wide and cross until the ball somehow lands at the strikers feet.

  7. I’m sure Clarke Harris would jump at the chance of joining a club like us. Plenty of crosses going in and he is know for his hold up play. If it’s a toss up between him and Smith, I’d go for him every day of the week.

  8. Blackett Taylor will go this window I’m sure!  Charlton are dragging it out to try and get champ interest. There aren’t just going to just let him walk away for free when they can get a fee in this window! Might go down to the wire.

  9. How we are playing is very similar to how Burnley have had success in recent years. Direct football that gets results. The problem with the whole of football is that there is a snobbery to certain teams playing style. Teams like Luton, Burnley, and Sheff Utd have managed to get to the prem by perfecting quick direct play. It seems that we are in the same mould under Warne.

I think from Warne's comments we face competition from a number of Championship clubs as well as ambitious league 1 clubs like Bolton and Portsmouth for any players we might be interested in in league 1 and probably players in league 2 as well. Everyone is looking for these players who are coming to the end of the contracts and might be available without a fee because nobody has got much money.    This is where we need our recruitment team to earn their money by finding us a couple of players that aren't on the radar of everyone else which means looking outside of the lower English leagues and players like Blackett - Taylor

I can understand a gamble if you are wanting to break into the top 6, but if you’re going for the title you need players of a certain calibre. Signing a Blackett Taylor or a Al-Hamadi would put you in pole position for promotion.

Part of our problem last Jan was hoping players like Harvey White and Springett would add something. This didn’t pay off and we ultimately fell out of the playoff’s. Let’s hope we don’t make the same mistake again!

We don’t need to do too much this window. Defence doesn’t really need anything unless we get injuries or Cashin leaves.

Midfield/wingers we could probably do with another player, preferably with pace to add some depth and a different option.

Up front is where we can make the most difference, Collins works hard but is limited and TJJ is talented, but we can’t be sure of his fitness.

We need a goal scorer, it’s the area we are weakest, we’re creating a good number of chances, but failing to capitalise on them, we haven’t suffered too much as yet, but some games are tighter than they need to be.

All that said, if we can’t really find a quality improvement and the option is bringing in someone like Lee Gregory (as mentioned in the tranfer thread) then we should just stick with what we’ve already got.

Sticking with what we’ve got is not an option for me. We need a striker and winger this window. That will be the difference in autos and playoffs
