TheresOnlyWanChope reacted to Archied in Mel Morris interview on Radio Derby 1pm
The figures bandied about say Derby in 50 million of debt , ive stood by Morris for a long time ,taking his word that he would stand by the club and city that he loved but recently have tempered that with the knowledge that the time was coming when we would find out if he was the real deal or just a fake full of bluster and empty words ,
that time is here , putting the club into admin is dooming us to relegation and very very possibly liquidation and does not get Morris any money back he MAY have lost ( let’s see how this now pans out loans ,gifted wise )
you love the club and the city and it’s people you bite the bullet and  pay the debts or a huge chunk of them and find a buyer ,you then walk away still a very very very rich man , the choice between that and absolutely ducking the club ,the city and its fans and people over is the difference between walking away slightly less very very very rich than you might otherwise be but with honour and head held high,
the interview and recent action s point very much to a man with not a jot of care for the club , the city ,it’s fans and it’s people ,the little people being shafted , same old bloody sorry story

Appalling enough thinking of Derby City...It should always be Derby county. AFC Derby County etc. No idea how I would feel about a phoenix club. Might back it, might just lose interest in football for a while. But yeh, groundshare with Mickleover? Nah. Awful

I absolutely agree and places like those are good examples, with there only really being one or two large centres of populations. The last thing I'll say about it here is that I've walked/rambled/hiked a lot of Derbyshire and often the people of the villages and small towns we've walked into don't feel a huge connection to Derby 'city'. The one thing that I've found as a common thread though, is the love and following of DCFC -- the emphasis being on "County". Doesn't matter if you're from Derby or Buxton or Edale... there's always someone you'll meet out there on the hills or in the last pub on the way home with a Ram on their shirt.

I think City just dilutes the identity. Its Derby County not Derby City. May not be a big deal for some people but it wouldnt feel the same. Aside from that City is just a crap name for a team. That Hull chairman was right!

It's the loss of the history associated with Derby County that would do it for me. Even hating 99.99% of football there's still that bond to Derby that pulls at you. Even if you haven't watched any match in a year, you still look up to see how Derby are.
    "It's in your DNA"
    It actually is.
You can't name exactly what it is but an important part is how it runs through families and ties generations together. How the past inspires the future.
You feel part of something that began almost 140 years ago and feel emotions for events and people that lived and played before you were born etc.
Being born again..  I think for some it would feel kind of hollow. Like, it is Derby County, but it isn't.
Anybody who's tired of football will lose their interest entirely I think if Derby County as we know it die

I am unsure, thought it was something to do with the county but they couldn't call it Derbyshire county due to cricket team so abbreviated it. I may be wrong. Whatever, I love the name, I love the club and will do any little I can to help keeping it going. I don't know who Derby City is but its not us. We are Derby County and now is the time to make ourselves heard and do what we all can to make sure we still have a club. I think the one thing that makes our situation salvageable is the amazing fans. Over 20,000 fans even season since Pride Park built around 25 years ago, how many clubs outside the top division can boast that??

A consortium of several wealthy Derby fans and local businessmen may seriously help if they are out there and willing, backed by a large fan led group. Easier said than done perhaps

We are and should always be Derby County! Changing to an awful name like “Derby City” would alienate so many people, hundreds of thousands, who like I live in Derbyshire and always follow the Rams!

I just hope it’s a consortium that buys us not just one person. Have a proper board made up who can challenge each other’s decisions. The one problem Mel had is he didn’t have a board to challenge him on his decisions. To say no we shouldn’t be doing this we should do that. Instead he had a yes man ceo finance supposedly guru who messed around with our amortisation and has got us crippled when instead of running along with it should have challenged Morris. If had been the case and Morris hadn’t of got a free reign I don’t think we would be in this mess. Instead Morris just did whatever he wanted and now we are in the doom

A phoenix club in the same colours same badge and retain our honours I'd be fine with. I wouldn't even see it as a new club. Just the same one
    Much like AFC Wimbledon

I assumed Mel / Pearce knew what they were doing when they signed off on big purchases and agreed to big wages. But if he was losing £1 million a month In 2017, then why? And why was it not fixed.  I didn’t believe this but I guess it was correct ...and the finances have been well hidden for a while. There have been no checks and balances and Pearce has been a yes man. Why was the club consistently living well beyond its means... he’s gambled with the future of the club. Very optimistic if he or anyone assumes it will be ok, maybe a few years down the line but he’s fed Derby to the sharks right now.
Derby County could fold and it will be largely down to Morris and his ineptitude running a club. I never thought or believed it was so bad financially until recently but it looks like it’s all true.

I think putting Derby in administration is just risking the clubs future. Unless his health is so bad or he has lost his fortune, I cant see the rationale. The club could seriously go out of business and the finances appear to be shocking. I agree with a lot of what he says about football is broken, covid, EFL vendetta etc, he makes good points but it doesn’t explain why we have been getting into crazy amounts of debt over a long period of time.
We came close to going up and it’s fine margins but when the figures quoted seem to be multi millions in terms of debt, it’s worse than anyone could have imagined.

We need a figurehead possibly an ex player like Linacre did when fester went into admin. Derby and it’s supporters will have made about 50 ex players millionaires over the last 20 years surely one of those might be sufficiently interested to lead on raising cash to get us through the next few months. Even Wayne could offer to lead it or perhaps Bryson who has a strong connection. Just someone to care enough to galvanise supported in raising cash

This has been a slow burner for me....but I am now really angry at his actions. The vast majority of his wealth is still in tact but he lets the Rams go to the wall through his own incompetence. Despicable......

Like the football finance guy said...Morris could continue funding the club if he chose to.. he had the finances to carry on for as long as required
He chose to throw the club and staff under a bus..
