@Tony Le Mesmer not sure how old you are, but definitely worth taking one of the first steps that angieram talks about. Just do it. I'm older living proof, that you should just do it. Don't end up like me.

Feel for you mate. I do.
There's lots of good advice on here but the best I can give you is don't try and get through it on your own. Most of us have tried and (for most of us) it doesn't work.
I had hardly any support from people. I kept it from friends and most family, as we weren't the sort of family who shared feelings and thoughts. My (then) wife didn't seem overly bothered by it either though she could see what it was doing to me. My way out was via medication.
Once I was starting to feel better, though, I opened up to my family about it and it has had the most dramatic effect on our relationship. My family now do talk more about stuff and I found out about my mum's past anxiety and the time when my (farmer) dad was close to walking off down the field with his sheepdog & shot gun and not coming back again.
    Powerful stuff. Talking.

Please don't struggle alone - there is lots of help out there.
Just talking through how you are feeling can help.
Trent PTS is a talking therapy service and has a base in Chesterfield  - you can refer yourself and it's free (NHS funded)

If you prefer doing something practical with like-minded people talk to someone at dora , also in Chesterfield - a whole host of groups and the guy who co-ordinates them all, Mark, is great.
    http://Www.dora-mental health. org.uk
They have just launched a new men's group aimed at guys who want to feel better about themselves without going into formal services.  More about self-care and building resilience really although perhaps aimed at older men than you (40 - 60).
For anyone looking at challenging stigma around mental health check out

Lots of online information and resources.
Although it is down in Derby, DCFC Active Supporters have free fitness sessions for men aged 18-65, good for improving wellbeing and physical health.
It's probably full of miserable old buggers moaning about the footy so just like being on here, really!
Email them at community@dcct.Co. uk for more information.
If none of that floats your boat I could go on (and on and on and on.......!)

I developed the same thing about 20 years ago. It's never gone away. That's mainly due to me not doing anything about it, apart from a spell of counselling. I just ran away from the problem, and avoided the situations that caused the issue. I've largely done that ever since.
The problem came on unexpectedly (the first time). I remember it well. Totally out of the blue. These days, I'll go out for a meal with my Mrs, but no way, if it was more people. Haven't been in a pub for about 18 years. Don't do social occasions of any kind.
There's probably no point in me trying to do anything about it now. But if you are still young, and wanting to sort it out, I'm sure there are ways to do it. I just don't know what they are! Sorry to be not much help. But I certainly understand what you are talking about.

Been thinking about posting on this thread for a while now ! But keep putting off from fear of what others may think ( stupid I know) .
Recently, say the past year or so . I've developed real bad anxiety before I go out. Mainly in social situations , where alcohol is involved . I know I'll be fine when I'm out (had a drink) but I get so worked up before , to the point were I'm literally in a daze for about a week before .
I'm going to the Huddersfield game( my first away game in a while) normally this would be fine , but I'm going with other people that are out of my immediate comfort zone and I'm getting myself into the same place mentally , were I don't want to be ! It's spoiling something that deep down I'm so excited about . Sorry for the long post and my whin9ng but really feel I needed to express my feelings some were especially were people may have been through the same thing .

it's getting to that time of year where a combination of things usually result in me having low moods.
Dark mornings when getting up, dark evenings when driving home from work, those with families having a purpose and the excitement of Christmas and New Year. I will probably at some point lock myself away over the festive period, and feel like a burden on everyone, which then makes me very low.
I am trying to counter this, but we will see if my plans work.
I know I am not alone, and hope that if any posters have similar issues, that they are comfortable enough to talk about it, and maybe pre-empting them may prevent, which is what I am hoping to do.

Most reputable animal centres won't rehome a dog to someone who works full time unless they have guarantees that someone will be able to take the dog out once or twice during the day. They will also speak to third parties responsible for taking the dog out to ensure they are in agreement with this and they are happy to do so. They won't rehome a pup to anyone who works full time regardless nor a dog that has a record of being left and being problematic.
I won't get a dog because I haven't the time for it. It's important to remember though that we live in a society where people have kids willy nilly when they haven't got the time for them so in that respect, dogs have no chance.
Sensible, responsible dog owners who work full time will ensure their dog is cared for appropriately just like sensible, responsible parents will do so for their kids. Anyone else doing otherwise need to ask themselves why they wanted a dog / kids in the first place.
