Bears linked with Russell Wilson, but might be getting Andy Dalton! ?

That's like getting up Christmas morning in anticipation of getting a PS5, then unwrapping an Atari 2600...

I read, somewhat surprised, that Wilson would be interested in Chicago.  I guess he's tired of running around like a blue-arsed fly, avoiding sacks every game.  Good for the highlight film, bad for the knees...

Had exactly the same on Saturday except two older blokes.

Ignorance isn't confined to any particular age or gender.

Got to disagree on this one Angie.  Of course it isn't solely ladies, but from my experience it's females who're more reluctant to walk in single file momentarily.  No idea why, just something I've noticed.

What I am enjoying the most is all the fans who are now claiming they knew CKR was this good. We have a lot of fans who should be on a super scouting team. Let’s face it no one was happy when we signed him. He is in his middle thirties and a poor goal scoring record.

I for one was a fan who criticised this signing. It seemed desperate just like Kevin Poole or Dean Holdsworth.

I am glad he is a success but no one expected it.

    My Post from 15th October 2020 -

Right then.  Just seen this on Insta.  Initial reaction was "WHAT THE ACTUAL...!", but having breathed through a paper bag for a few minutes, I've calmed down, and now holding out hope that he turns out to be a Shefki Kuqi style signing.  As in, he won't score very often, but he'll slot in precisely how we want to play and bring the best out of Ibe, Lawrence, Sibley & The Polish Messi.

    Hardly negative

What's more surprising is how little we've relied on 3 of the 4 players I mentioned playing off him...

Did anyone hear the commentary team explain that the strange whooping noise coming from the pitch was CKR alerting the other players that he wanted the ball - so funny

I noticed that a few months ago when he first started games.  I assumed it's from when he was playing abroad and didn't have a handle on the lingo so just shrieked instead??

CM has faded physically and CKR is still a fabulous athlete. However you might think they ranked say 3 years ago, there is now no comparison.

I don't think Col-Kaz would be the same player 3 years ago, with more legs I can imagine he'd play more on the last man, looking to get in behind.  I remember he was all about pace when he was younger.  You can see the experience in the way he plays, same with Rooney when he first came in last season.  They just play things differently to younger players.

There's a chance that Rooney the manager wouldn't have played Martin though, not enough energy, not enough nastiness and wouldn't hold or win the ball in the same situations.

I think Martin would struggle with the current system tbh, and be no better than Gregory has been.

It is interesting what he would've done with him.  You say he wouldn't stand for the constant falling over at the slightest nudge, but he let's Knight get away with it.  As I said on another thread, we need a few more players with an understanding of the dark arts.  With us being such a young side we can be very naïve at times

As the love felt by some for Hughes, been lost after his antics during tonight's game?

Not at all.  I wish we had a midfielder who was that savvy.  He bossed the game without appearing to break a sweat, and we only got back into it when he went off...

If anything our collective hatred for Gary 'The Snake' Rowett should increase exponentially

You might be at the Pierhouse more than once. Great place for a drink as the sun goes down into the sea on a warm August evening.

There is a great Thai place in the town too. Pig on the Hill is about 5 mins drive too and had a couple of lovely meals there.

Clovelly is very close to Westward Ho! and pretty unique.

Lynton/Lynmouth/Valley of the Rocks is amazing.

Lands End is a good trek from there and not particularly thrilling from what I remember.

I’ve checked out the menus and it does look right up our street.

Our gaff is at the top of the hill, so we should have some belting views of sunsets. It fact it’s not far from Pig on The Hill according to Google Maps.

I know Lands End doesn’t have a lot to do, but it’s on of things to tick off.

You are so wrong. Westward Ho! has a nice "massive" beach! My parents been going there for years and we've been about 5 times in last 10 years. It's a great place with loads of good restaurants. A guy from work went with his older teenage sons a couple of years back and they had a great time. The bar and restaurant at the end of the town, the Pierhouse, is a great place. Worth booking before well before you go if you want particular times and days.

I'm not much of a cyclist at all, but the Tarka trail is nearby is really good.

Lots of good beaches and places to visit nearby too.

We're supposed to be going May Day weekend, postponed from last year.

This is music to my ears ??

Had a look at The Pierhouse as we’d like somewhere with an outside, so we can take the dog, will definitely book it early doors.

My Mrs used to go to Ilfracombe as a kid, so we’ll go there for the day. And I quite fancy Lynton and the Valley of Rocks for a wander round. Plus I’ve never been to Landsend, which is a bit of a trek but do fancy it

  10. We were planning on Disney World in Florida this year with some friends, as we wanted to go before our lads got too old to appreciate it (they're in that 11-18 bracket where anything that isn't derivative hip-hop isn't cool), but seeing as the US is still a bigger poo-show than our country we're sticking to the UK.  Booked a newly built cottage in Westward Ho! in Devon for a week.  Looks a nice little beach town with plenty of open space for the dog, and a couple of arcades & crazy golf to keep the lad amused.  Counting down the days to August already...

yep. actually that is totally true, it did make me nostalgic for that team i have to say..

And what he said about the millions we've spent since the QPR play off final, and not improving (in fact going backwards) is 100% true.

Yes he made a couple of poor choices regards to being loaned out, but to not be told about the financial reasons why he wasn't getting a game is shocking.  Little things like this do add fuel to the flame in regards to Mel making it up as he goes along...

  12. 1 hour ago, Jourdan said:

Well that’s not true, is it? We have had options all along, but Rooney didn’t trust these players.

Evans and Te Wierik amassed three appearances between them under Rooney. The academy lads like Solomon were here but not deemed ready.

I guess three at the back is a possibility but it does seem that Rooney prefers a four, but maybe because of the injury to Bielik that will be re-assessed.

Interesting signing and let’s see how he does. It might be one we’ve signed with a view to a longer term loan next season.

Options you don’t trust aren’t options are they. He’s hardly going to play players that would weaken us...

It’ll be interesting to see where he fits in, how he adapts, and how soon he’s brought into the fold.

The one thing that might go against him is that Clarke and Wisdom is a very settled partnership now and we’ve had a strong run defensively, although Wisdom has his nervy moments.

Perhaps there will be some rotation? We do have seven games in less than 28 days for starters and the lad has obviously come to play.

    Maybe.

Maybe Rooney will consider switching to 3 at the back in certain games?

One thing that is definite, it gives him options, which is something we've been sorely lacking since Davis was injured.

I thought he came across okay really. His story about refusing to play for our U23’s smacked of a typical cocky kid from a Prem academy but he’d have been 20 or 21 at the time and I can’t really imagine any of our loanees from that period really wanting to do it - given the comments from Jamie Ward he probably knew he was out of line with it as well.

The shenanigans around his transfer is something he was probably put up to by Rush / his agent and is something most of us probably lapped up at the time! And I know he has a vested interest but certainly didn’t sound like he owed any loyalty to West Brom. As @cannable says we barely managed to complete a transfer back then without upsetting somebody.

His comment about Bryson not thanking Martin for his 5 year contract made me laugh, and was frustrating to hear how avoidable / stupid his injury in the Zenit game seemed.

Right now he probably feels quite a lot of resentment to a game that promised him so much but has ultimately left him in poor physical condition and suffering from depression so can understand his attitude towards it.

The U23 thing I put down to a player who knows how good he can be given the chance.  As he says in the interview, he came to us to play in the 1st team.  If he was happy with reserve football he'd have stayed at West Brom.  It was interesting that Schteve got Simmo to dish out information like that.  Perhaps a little window into how his man management skills are lacking??

I'm almost at the end of Part 1 and I think he's coming across as a bit of a nob, to be honest!

    Still love him though.

TBH, if you spoke candidly to 99% of professional footballers you'd think they were nobs, especially those that don't have to remember their media training, and tow the company line anymore.  That much money & adulation at a young age will make someone come across as cocky & arrogant.  Gorgeous George is no different.

Can't wait to listen to Part 2 later on.

He was naive to think he was ready for such a big job and could succeed where far more established managers have failed - keeping Roman happy.

At the end of the day, if you are an inexperienced manager, you work your way up and you bide your time. If Frank had progressed us as a club in the same way Nuno has done with Wolves and taken his lessons, rolled with the punches and taken the bumps and bruises along the way, he would have been far better placed to take on the Chelsea job.

If it’s your dream job, surely you want to do that job to the best of your ability and give yourself the best platform for success? So surely you take that job when you are at the peak of your powers and have considerable experience and know how behind you? 12 months of managerial experience was never likely to be enough.

There is a constant churn of managers at Chelsea. Tuchel will probably last less than two years too. Of course the opportunity would have come around if he had shown his qualities over time.

He tried to run before he could walk, and now I would imagine he is back to square one. He’ll have to take on a project like Brighton and grow the club.

But in fairness there wouldn't be many people who turned down the chance of working with better players, having more money to spend, earning more money, and being able to live at home with their Mrs, regardless if they thought they were ready for it.

The only way you could see any manager seeing out his contract with Roman is if they won the Prem and champions league every year, and commented that he is the best chairman, of the best football club ever, as every press conference...

Take key players out of any team and they will struggle regardless of who’s manager

True but he doesn't appear to learn from his mistakes.  A lot of chopping and changing led to poor runs when he was here, same thing happened at Chelsea.
