Sorry to be blunt, but I think that's nonsense.
Absolutely nobody would complain if we played 'dire' football but won the Premier League and were playing in Europe. 
The style of play debate only really heats up when results are perceived to be poor. A vast majority of fans are willing to accept a certain style of play when results follow, look at the Billy Davies promotion season. However, as soon as an unappealing style of play fails to get the desired results then people turn quicker than milk in a microwave. 

I watched the game and most of our play was counter attacking. We are fine when we can counter attack teams it’s when teams sit back we struggle under warnes tactics to break teams down. 
 
just never thought I would see the day we had to rely on counter attacking and worrying about what the opposition does. We should be at least having a different variety to our game 

He tried to sign him for Rotherham. 
The football is ordinary at best as are the results - there has been no hint that Warne knows how to change things up.
When Warne bought Birdy 🐦 on, he changed the way we attacked and also, not mentioned by m/any changed the pace of the game. 
What did Warne then do...

I know there are funny selection rules for this competition but I’m not sure we’ll get away with starting 12 players….

It is hyperbole to say “no other team in this division would be happy with the performance or result yesterday”. Plenty of other teams in this league would be happy to go away from home, dominate the game against their opponents, and have a point to take home.

There was an interview earlier this season. I can't remember the exact wording but it was along the lines of "when at Rotherham and playing away, he could tell the interviewer they played well because there weren't as many eyes watching the football on show". 
It seems he's still trying that same approach with us. It may also explain why we're doing worse at home. He's feeling the pressure to get us playing better football, which he is seemingly incapable of coaching into the players.

I think the point people are making about yesterday is that although we didn't do too badly playing the way we were set up, some of us feel we could have done so much better with a midfield three and playing football on the ground more. 
Cheltenham are poor. 
 

Did Bird have to change position, wasn't that down to the manager who didn't want to play through the middle?
