If anyone doesn't have Sky, they can buy this on Rams TV for £10 as a midweek match.

He won the penalty that helped keep us in the Championship. He's nowhere near as bad as being made out. He tries his best, if that isn't good enough it's not his fault.
He's a Derby player being pilloried for no other reason than he's not what they think he should be.
Oh and he won that penalty!

No if anything we look more attacking as the game goes on. Too cautious in the first half of games so far!

Completely off topic but had a weird dream last night that England had been taken over by / sold off to the Netherlands (& possibly the Danish in a coalition). None of it makes any sense of course and it's a series of vague and poorly written ramblings, but...
It started off with me watching Derby play a match on a park (we were losing, struggling to create any clear chances all game and then missed two open goals) when some military trucks drove past us all (about 2000 fans) headed past towards some local political headquarters for talks with our 'leaders'.
People started leaving the game, walking away talking about their rights to be English and talking of a resistance. They seemed prepared for all of this (maybe they'd been to a meeting with enforced NDAs?)  but I had no idea what was happening. I sensed a vague threat that if we didn't move on we'd be in danger, so I followed them to a hideaway, or various hideaways, but I ended up getting lost along the way and ended up in an attic somewhere, or maybe it was underground, I don't know.
Nothing else happens until I'm up and awake the awake the next day.
I walk out of the hideaway and literally everything has been transformed as if I'd been asleep 5 years - new buildings, signs, banners, company names altered, everything branded with the regalia of the new country (which was still in part called England).  There are parades, bands, marches etc celebrating the new country. It was all very colourful and loud, everything nice and clean.
Most people talking Dutch, it's the law now, but at this point in the dream I remember certain 'fun' activities being legal in the Netherlands so actually I was pretty cool with this whole thing.
I was still lost and couldn't understand any signs though, as were a number of other people stumbling around looking dazed and confused - I spoke to these people and they all seemed to be ushering me to a 'safe zone' (I didn't feel unsafe). I follow their instructions and end up in a modern day speakeasy, which of course was was a local Wetherspoons, it just had to be!
    ...and then I woke up.

I read this type of criticism often about Bird & I wonder what I'm seeing so differently. The modern game rewards players that don't go to ground when defending. This is exactly what Max is so good at...his positioning & sense of 'danger' is very good which means he often tracks the runner & either intercepts the ball or eases the runner off the ball.
I rate Bird's defensive work higher than Shinnie, who is old school, goes to ground but gets more plaudits from our fans because he's high energy & they equate that with 'passion'. Unfortunately the reason for that is because he's often drifting out of position & slow to react to danger so his only option is to do 'last ditch'.

Yeah, it's not only Rooney's fault, or only he and Rosenior's
They're just the one's who's come up with a tactic where our full backs are playing wing back, our wingers playing full back, our central midfielders playing LCB & RCB, our AM (who should actually be the LW) is playing DM and our DMs are playing... well who knows what they're playing because they neither defend or attack, meaning our our CF is completely isolated and our wing backs (a role not traditionally part of a back 4)  have no support in the middle and have little option but to run down dead ends or cross it early to nobody.
It just about worked against a League Two team and a pre-season friendly against a Spanish team playing at half-speed when we could get our best passers in the team, but in a league match it just means that everyone on the pitch aside from GK, CBs & CF isn't playing their natural game, and the added 'steel' detracts further from our passing ability and creativity.
They're just the ones who use these stifling tactics to help control games in the first half, often only making changes that see us attacking with any real intent in the second half thus ensuring we'll almost never score 2 or more goals and will end most games needing to hang on to a slender lead, or even just a point, which we never do because they've left themselves with no controlling players to bring off the bench and subbed the ones who started the match off!
Their game management is in serious need of work.

This is all true, up to a point.
Why do the same people make more mistakes in one environment and less mistakes in another environment? Management!
People are more likely to make mistakes: in unfamiliar roles; or where they are uncertain what their role is; or where they lack confidence in what they are doing. All these are issues to be addressed by proper management.
If our players often look clueless, perhaps it's because nobody's given them a clue.

Just play Ravel in central midfield FFS! If there's one player in the side currently who can put Festy, Tom and Jack in behind the opposition defence it's Morrison. Maximise his opportunity to do so by playing him in the heart of of midfield 3 and preferably with only one of Bird and Shinnie, not both.
Against teams like Posh, we need to pay our football and let them worry about us, not vice versa. I thought the line-up against Salford, while somewhat forced upon us, might herald a sea-change to a more progressive style of football. After a very shaky first 20 minutes, we actually looked a half decent passing team with significant attacking threat, albeit against modest opposition. A few days later and we're straight back to the mind-numbing 'strategy' we saw throughout the final third of last season.

Cocu got a pretty average Derby team to tenth during his first season in charge despite everything that went against him. Sibley, Bird and Knight all performed far better under him.
His transfer targets such as Dursun, Panzo and Moore had brilliant seasons last year.
Cocu was a slow burner. But he improved players and could spot potential transfer targets to move us forward. His time at PSV proved with the right pieces in place, he could succeed.
But he was undermined by Wayne Rooney's arrival while restricted from making any signings due to the circumstances caused by Mel Morris. Bizarre you would give up on him after the Charlton away game, which was about 10 game into his first season, working with an average squad. What were you expecting? Bielsa-ball?
There were signs after that we were on the right track. Like the back-to-back wins over Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn, the latter a crushing 3-0 win where Wayne Rooney didn't even play.
Post lockdown, we still had momentum and Louie Sibley was being talked about as a potential superstar. But by that point, Rooney's fitness was so dire we were starting games with ten players.
Cocu's job come the second season was impossible. We were obliged to play Rooney who was awful, while we started the season without a recognised striker due to an embargo and the Martin fiasco.
The subsequent improvement in form after Cocu's exit was down to Rooney retiring and Krystian Bielik coming back. Not only were we playing with 11 men again, but we had arguably the best midfielder in the league absolutely running it for us.

I take issue with this, just as i did when people said it about Nigel Clough’s team. You cannot say a player isn’t good enough until you’ve seen them playing at their optimum level.

it lies at the manager’s door to get the players playing optimally. Then when you can see a player playing his best, but we still lose, then the players aren’t good enough.

Peterborough are one of the weakest teams in the league. We should not be in the position of desperately holding on to a 1-0 lead.
Why would you wait to change manager? If Rooney's record continues we'll be mathematically down by the new year!

It feels like this debate has reached absurd levels now - reminds me of the Monty Python sketch "what have the Romans done for us" (yes, I know, I'm showing my age -  link below for the youngsters).
But rather than the Romans, it's "but why should we sack the management"
1 win in 15 last season
Stayed up by the skin of our teeth, and largely because of a Cardiff equaliser through Marlon Pack rather than our own endeavours
Easy start to the season against relegation rivals, but gain 1 point out of 6 and can't beat a league 2 side in normal time in the cup.
Utterly bizarre "tactics" (I actually think any suggestion of there being tactics is being generous)
Stubborn refusal to make any changes when nothing is working
Idiotic substitutions when changes are not needed
Youth players seem to have regressed, having grown under Cocu
Lauds youth players in a ridiculously over the top way -  "will play for England", then drops them unceremoniously
Can't seem to find a place for arguably one of our most talented youngsters, the only one who can change a game, and there are rumours of a Rowett-esque "not in my plans" discussion
    I could go on...
But, as certain posters on here will say "yes, yes, but apart from all that, why shouldn't we stick with him"?  Blows my mind.

I was quite anti-Rooney towards the end of last season. Still don’t know if he’s the right man but he’s what we have and no manager would touch us with a barge pole if they had any sense. I decided I was going to back him and the team early season and changing that view 3 games in would be far too early.
I think there are a number of posters who have made their minds up for quite a while on wanting Rooney gone and nothing that happens going forward will change that view. It’s interesting how the big criticism from posters last season was his reactive management yet now he’s trying something innovative to make us more of an attacking threat those same posters are criticising him for overcomplicating things thinking he’s Pep Guardiola without the squad to do it therefore he’s tactically clueless based on a three game sample.
Yesterday we lost the game through individual errors. Peterborough didn’t look a threat until Dembele came on and not really then until stoppage time. We wasted two or three really good counters and the balance wasn’t quite right - that’s quite normal for early in the season.
But it’s all because Rooney is clueless as 1 win in 18 demonstrates, even though we’re trying to adopt different tactics and have some different personnel.
Everyone knew it was likely to be a tough season, there have been some positives in the early games but that doesn’t fit anti-Rooney narrative as neatly as 1 win in 18. In my opinion those posters are not conveying a balanced view of the situation or the season so far.
Not being critical of said posters, it was always going to happen until we win a few games. We could be here in 10 games time without a win and they may be proven right, but regardless, we’re stuck with him until he walks anyway.

May Contain Nuts reacted to DCFC Kicks in What would McClaren do with this team?
    (rant warning)
We've got a bad squad but all our best players are attackers, so why are we setting up so defensively when it's obvious our defenders are incapable of keeping a clean sheet? Wouldn't attack be the best form of defence with this team? ...and we have Mac at the club who specialises in attacking football just sitting there (if he even still is). I don't care what anyone says, Jozwiak, Lawrence, Sibley etc are good players, Rooney makes players worse because he doesn't know what he's doing because he's not qualified to be a manager yet. Mac has a history of not only getting the best out of players, but also improving players.
The constant late goals we concede, inability to win after going down etc aren't coincidences, its poor game management and an inability to react when the opposition does. You can't blame the players when it seems to happen no matter which players are playing.
People on here are constantly blaming our attacking players for not picking up players when we concede goals, but why isn't anyone asking why are our attacking players being put in them situations?
As far as I'm aware there isn't any restrictions stopping Mel from sacking Rooney, he's just choosing not to save his money or for some reason he thinks he's doing a good job, or he thinks have Rooney in charge would attract more buyers, but are potential buyers really stupid enough to be more likely to buy a club just because it has someone famous in charge? I don't care that it's his own money, he didn't have to buy the club, if we go down because Mel didn't want to sack Rooney it's unforgivable.
If we do go down, can't we at least go down with our own identity? I'm honestly sick of every time Derby are in the news, all you see is pictures of Rooney and headlines about him, sometimes you barely see anything about the actual club, it's even worse than when Lampard was here. I know that's not his fault but it just adds to the misery.
