If Steve Evans thinks he is good, then it means that he is lenient with thug football, and lenient with the dark arts, so my guess is that we are going to have a really tough time, because that describes Wycombe's MO to a "T". Come on you Rams. Tough it out. And as almost ever, you will be playing against anything up 14 players on Wycombe's side. But we can do it, because we've been doing it for most matches this season. Let's play our own game and impose it on them.

I just dreamt I watched us lose 1-0 in a travesty of a s***housing match against Wycombe. I was then watching a news report with Bolton fans being interviewed saying they were now favourites and didn't want the play offs.
It took me about 5mins of feeling miserable before I realised it had been a dream.
Come on Derby ....  win tomorrow,  thrash Orient at the weekend and Portsmouth to grab a draw and we are almost there.
Really don't fancy the play offs.

Hating the wait now. I'm normally not nervy about games as these are the matches that matter, so why not embrace them, but I am getting twitchy with all the hanging about. I don't rate Wycombe that highly, but they are precisely the type of team we have typically struggled against in recent times when we've not been 100% at it. They're big, they're strong and they are well organised defensively. I thought we were good against Pompey, but they wanted to play football and I think the Wembley game clearly showed the different kind of challenge we will face against Wycombe. They will look to disrupt and break up play at every opportunity and our lads will need to stay on their feet, in and around our area. It'll be interesting to see if Bloomfield persists with his bright young things, or whether some of the more experienced types are drafted back in. Sadly, I don't see fatigue being a major issue for them, despite the short turn-around.

We haven't really had many games that have been an "easy watch" all season so no real change there.

Or play through midfield, which is what we refused to do at Northampton, and it cost us.

I don’t really hate any football clubs but I certainly hate people within football.

I expect Bolton will be a point behind by the time we play this game. Anything else will be a pleasant surprise. Hence, I feel this is a must win game, not a “must not lose” game. Anything but three points and it’s out of our hands and a massive boost to Bolton. We need to to go into every game like it’s the playoff final from now. I’m sure that’s obvious to Warne and the lads.

For anyone feeling negative I'd argue the following.
This is our second season following a significant meltdown off the pitch which resulted in obvious repercussions on it. We've consolidated and are now in a good position to return to the Championship.
We have a sensible owner who genuinely loves the club and who has a desire to see the academy excel. He also isn't an egotistical and confrontational fool.
The squad we have will, I suspect, be subject to much change during the summer as the restrictions end. The style of play may well turn towards something a little easier on the eye as a result. It's all about getting out of this division and recruiting well before 24/25.

Good point in the end that. Got undone by a screamer which can happen.
But on another night they could score that open goal and get a penalty (if that was us, I'd want a penalty for what Wilson did) it definitely falls into the category of "I've seen them given" and I would agree with Curtis Davies in that if it's anywhere else on the pitch it's a foul.
But we defended well, held our shape well and it was a good away performance.
Now we've got 8 days to rest. A luxury no other team is getting.
I think 3 wins will do the job now. That would mean Bolton need 4 wins and a draw from their last 5 games. Which I just cannot see them getting.
If we can go to Wycombe and get a result, it will take the pressure off slightly for the remaining 3 games.
Hoping Bristol Rovers can do us a massive favour on Saturday, but they seem to be on the beach, so I'm not hopeful.
Another thing with the result today, it means that Pompey can go up with a win at Bolton. So they'll still have something to play for.
Maybe have Bird, Gayle and Barkhuizen back for Wycombe away too. Who hopefully will have a Wembley hangover.
    We can do it.
    Up The Rams!

As promised, an update on the team prior to tonight's match; as has been reported already, Callum Elder is out for another two weeks with a groin strain. I'd imagine that almost certainly means that Sibbo will play LB in a 4 with Wilson, Nelson and Cash. It's a solid enough foundation IMO, as whilst I do think Elder is far better than we've seen, Sibbo is playing well and one silly card aside, has been a proper team player. Perhaps he can pop up with one of his wonder-strikes tonight, assuming we're not under the cosh that is!
Also absent are both barks and Fozzy, both suffering from calf strains and it'll be a week or two before either is ready for a return to 1st team action. Bradley is again absent suspended for his moment of idiocy against Northampton. All season, I've backed the lad to come good at some point, but I have to say this still really feckin grates. It was petulant, selfish and utterly pointless and my patience with him is now hanging by a thread. Brought it to set the tone and lead by example, he'd just found some form after a difficult start to his time at the club and he's repaid Warne by acting like a t*** and merely adding to his selection issues. Sonny, there are no excuses pal, so stop trying to make them and assume some feckin responsibility.
Both Max and Dwight are on the mend; I think Max is expected to be back in a game or two, while Dwight's prognosis is not so clear, with PW saying he hopes to have him back before the season ends. Gutted really, as the lad was flying and we look a different side with him stretching defences and bringing others into play with back to goal. Likewise, his goal threat is a huge loss. Thankfully, Collo looked sharp on his comeback. We desperately need a strong performance from him tonight.
We already know that Nyambe is out for the season, likewise TJJ, though Vickers is back in training though still a week or two off a return. I'd thought they'd said young Jake Rooney was back in full training, but sadly this seems to be incorrect. We are told, however, that he is making an excellent recovery from what was a horrid ACL injury, but it'll be pre-season before we see him again. He's one to look forward to all the same.
That's it from me. Hopefully we secure at least a point tonight, but mostly I hope we are brave and try and play our football. The away tickets are sold out, so there will be a really good following at Fratton Park to cheer the lads on and all that's left is to wish those making the long trek down to Portsmouth a safe journey and s***-eating grins all the way home! A win tonight and we're pretty much guaranteed promotion, though a point would be a great result too. I think we can do it.

My concern is if we set up with a midfield two ….. again, because we will be over-run …. again. Especially if Hourihane starts, because then we will only have a midfield one and a half. It will also mean we have gone for “whack it wide and lob it into the box” …. again, so all Portsmouth will have to do is what Northampton did - put an extra man on each wing back.
We need to go 3 in midfield, and we need to play our game and make Portsmouth worry about us, not the other way round.
We can get at least a point from this match if we want to, and if we are allowed to.

Our first game in “the 11-point season” was a 2-2 draw against Pompey.  I remember leaving the ground thinking “that was pretty good, I think we’ll do alright this season”.

It’s an interesting debate isn’t it. ? I can’t decide. There are times, when we are on song, playing pretty good mixed football. Sure some long stuff but some decent on the ground intricacy with it.  Then you get Warne saying in post match interviews that he wants them to take more risks and how he loves it when Wilson takes on his man. So far so good, BUT we then lapse in to a gloomy safety first 3 touches when one will do and all the instinctivness and flair just disappears as if it was never there. We look ponderous and slow. No one touch, no urgency. It’s odd.

This was in response to me...and I've been 'pro' Warne all along.
Plus I was at the game,  willing us on!
Sibley was only that side when taking corners which is where my confused comment came from.
So...your 'some folk' rant may still be true, but it's totally misplaced in relation to the origin of that comment.
I was with a couple of 'casual' fans at best and they found the game pretty uneventful. The couple of us who are regular fans found it gut-churning and ultimately enjoyable but it was the context that gave most of the emotion.
The blocking of shots, desire to get a head on a cross etc was great to see. But we rarely committed ourselves, no one really went beyond the striker,  Wilson stayed solidly in position and generally passed it backwards rather then take on his man or overlap.
    The victory was everything.
My observations are though that we make it hard for ourselves by constantly taking a pretty pragmatic approach. When you're winning that's fine but it makes for quite stressful viewing at times. Blackpool looked pretty toothless and we generally handled them well but they had a decent chance at the end poorly struck/bravely blocked and if that had gone in then this thread would be twice as long.

Was relieved to discover that news of an injury crisis was exaggerated
Thought the first half was good - especially down the right where Ward and Wilson showed why they should have started together more often.

I didn’t like the sitting back at the beginning of the second half - we could have lost control. But OK,  with Adams, Smith, Nelson (how cool is that man) and Cashin (showed his class), we are unlikely to concede
Up front? Hard to know what to say. It’s as if the players miss training but instead sit in isolation cells listening to podcasts that debunk the merits of a co-ordinated, team based approach. By the standards of this league the players we have (NML, Washington, CBT) are strong enough. But together they are so much less than the sum of the parts. Thank goodness our other 8 players are so much better than the average. Maybe Warne might use Elder at LB (if it’s 4 at the back) and have Sibley sitting behind the front men. He could give Sibs a large syringe labelled ‘play football’ that he sticks in their bums every time they come close. Now we’re seeing how valuable Barks was.

After 41 games Warne has surely understood at last that starting Hourihane was the feckless error of a man bewitched by a CV. And that picking Hourihane and Bird as starters in an alleged high energy set up was lunacy. It’s now pretty clear that the players’ captain won’t  start again. If he does, we deserve to be in the play offs. Carry on with today’s team and approach and we’re well set for automatics.    COYR
