Not the most optimistic of updates from Warne. I get them trying to play down budgets etc. but the comments about us competing with half the teams in this league getting a striker in is a bit worrying. Does seem at odds with Clowes quotes last week. If it was half the league above then fair enough. But surely we can beat ANY league 1 team to a forward.

As a respected tweeter has pointed out PW has gone from saying that if Derby are in for a player it’s basically a done deal because of the size of the club. To now saying that half the league are competing with us for signatures.

Also to my knowledge Bielik’s wage was included in this years budget. So if we can’t sign a couple of decent strikers with that then it’s a bad job….I get we can’t splash the cash Willy nilly but if we start the season with Collins as our main striker then questions need to be asked.

@Ghost of Clough beat me to it! All of the sides you named have had disruption too. P’Boro will be in transition, doubt they’ll be near top 6 next season.
Nobody is saying we’re certs for the top 2. But, by the end of the window I expect us to have built up a very good squad for this league. Failure to get promotion this year will be a failure. We’ve never spent 3 seasons in the 3rd tier. Regardless of admin, we should be going all out for top 2. We can’t keep blaming admin for mediocrity. The clubs stable. Signings will be made. This season, with other teams disruptions, there is no better time to get promoted.

Barnsley - lost their manager but no notable changes to playing squad, except for 6/7 fringe players leaving, most of them were on loan.
Bolton - lost 2 squad players. Made 1 loan permanent. 2 of their best players returned to Liverpool and Man City, with Bradley being their 3rd top scorer and 2md in assists.
Peterborough - lost their top assister from last season, trying to sell their top scorer (their only palyer to score more than 10), lost another squad player. Released one of their most used defenders and also trying to sell 5 or 6 other regulars in their team. They dont even have a keeper as the two they had were only on loan. They made 1 loan forward permanant. They're essentially starting from scratch.
Portsmouth - finished below us last season. Lost 5 squad players and replaced them with 3 squad players from Burton, Forest Green and Shrewsbury (loan from Bournemouth), and a winger who barely played for Lincoln last season. Lost 6 further squad player who were on loan.

On the other hand, we've lost our 9th, 11th, 14th and 15th most used players. We've already replaced two of them and strengthened in our weakest position from last season. Whislt our sqyad isnt close to being complete, no one else is either. The nature of being a L1 club is a high turnover of players each season. We're rightfully the current favourites due to what our squads should look like by the end of the window.

Minimum has to be promotion via the play offs. Anything less than promotion this season is a failure. Top 2 is the target though. We don’t want a third season in the third tier. Promotion is an absolute must this season. It’s a poor league. Teams coming down have problems. No excuses.

That’s fine and obviously they are going to evolve etc. Their new stuff isn’t to my taste but obviously is to some people’s as it’s still very successful but can’t help but think a festival environment, even more so at Glasto as a lot of people aren’t going to be their hardcore, they should lean into their old stuff more. Get the feeling Alex Turner resents singing it because their older stuff was more mainstream popular (and he has disappeared up his own arse over the last 10 years or so), which is why he randomly kept changing the pace of the old stuff yesterday. Sometimes it’s fine not to try and be too clever
Fred again has done the best set I’ve seen so far, looked incredible

    Thoughts so far?
Churnups aka Foo Fighters, excellent as always.
Arctic Monkeys, terrible. Boring. Turned em off. They’ve completely gone away from what made them an excellent band. Nothing will beat that first album, but Turner is now a crooner who is arrogant and had zero interaction with the crowd. Everything was slow and dull. Terrible. Third time headlining, doubt there will be a 4th.
Rick Ashley sounded decent. Couteeners too. Not seen much else yet.
Guns N Roses tonight and Elton tomorrow!

Throughout our history this is the third time we've been in the third tier. Those other two times, we were promoted after the second season. Unless we're promoted this season, it would be the lowest moment in our history.
After last season's promotions, we are now clearly the biggest team remaining in this league by some margin. The transfer embargo has been lifted (finally). We have a manager who has spent 4 seasons as manager in this division, winning promotion in 3 of them.
The minimum expecctation has to be promotion. I am tempted to say automatic promotion, but any way to get out of this god-forsaken league will do me. Failure to get out of it will be a failure.

Anything less than promotion is not okay. The league is so incredibly weak this season, and if we don't get out of it then Warne should be let go. It's really that simple I think.

Fair play to McGoldrick, following his heart and not money to play for his boyhood club. If I was good enough, I’d love to have done the same.
Massive loss to Derby, he carried us a lot last season. Although, I doubt he’d have the same season again at 36. Will miss his class, guile and goals. Very tough to replace. Over to you Warne…

I genuinely don't understand why I've just seen "League two is a bigger pull than Warne"
It's not league two. It's Notts County. It's his club. He wants to retire there. Fair play. Could have stayed here for more money. He's literally just said himself that no other club he would have gone for.
Internally they would have known about this for ages. I would imagine that Mcgoldrick has said "Look if Notts go up there's a chance I could go back there and I'd want to"
I wish him nothing but the best. Was unbelievable for us last season and without him we'd have been nowhere.
But that was the season of his life and we cannot be relying on him to do that again. We need 3-4 strikers chipping in with 8-15 goals each. We need wide players chipping in with 5-10.
It's not just about replacing Mcgoldricks goals with an individual it needs to be spread.
Other than Hourihane and NML. Goals from other areas of the team were pitiful.
But fans using this as a stick to beat Warne or the club with are a joke.
