  1. Played well for the majority of the half. Last 5-10 not great though. Good pressing and football through midfield. Looking dangerous going forward. Not convinced by NML penalty claim, think he was looking at it in first glance. Fornah looked more of a pen.

One might suggest that the former leads to the later.  You need someone to actually pass to, not acres of space with only opponents in it.  From the highlights, there basically isn’t another Derby player in shot from the moment he picks it up, and he ends up trying to thread a difficult pass, which he fails to make.

Completely disagree. He had acres of space to run into.He didn’t need to pass, he had options.  He was under absolutely zero pressure. He had team mates both sides or forward and the pass to Forsyth was a simple one. It was terrible play by Hourihane. Real schoolboy, lazy football.

  3. Sibley needs to do better. He’s been very average this season I’m afraid and I’m a big fan. His emergence under Cocu seems a long time ago. If he’s not careful, he’ll have a Marc Bridge Wilkinson/ Callum Guy type career rather than a top top player. Still better than all of us can muster, but it’d be a big disappointment if that is the case. Unfortunately he’s not really pulling up any trees against poor league 1 teams. He’s lost that bite that made him such a talent. It’s been coached out of him and his confidence looks shot.

Having said all that, Hourihane and Smith were awful in midweek. Warne needs to realise that this balance isn’t a great one. What Hourihane was doing for the second goal I’ll never know. He had acres of space and made a shocking pass then a feeble attempt to win it back. So poor.

  4. It is pretty pathetic blaming it on health and safety though. A slip hazard apparently, especially when granted permission. I’m not one of those ‘we all know the real reason’ by the way. It’s just pretty lame and a sad reflection of health and safety gone mad.

Tend to agree that this season is another 'free hit' for Warne. Mid table or just outside the play offs will suffice from the owners perspective. We will probably see much the same of the pattern so far. Lose a few games and scrape the odd draw - fans showing signs of discontent - then the odd win (like the Northampton game) to settle things - lose a few - win a couple    etc etc.

No way is this season a ‘free hit’. I’m surprised anyone thinks this. Warne has had all of last season to assess the squad and stamp his authority on the team/club. Regardless of any business plans, we have to get play offs this season as a bare minimum. Failure to do that and it should be bye bye.
The longer you stay in League 1, the harder it becomes to get promoted. We’d lose Bird, Cashin etc and replace them with more mediocre signings. We’ve never been in this league for longer than 2 seasons in 139 years. I don’t think we should start accepting that prospect either. It’s a poor league this year, unfortunately, so far we’re equally as average. Here’s hoping things pick up.

He's not doing too bad is he? That goal last night was a bit of alright.

496 minutes played which is the equivalent of 5.5 games worth of football, in that 3 goals and 2 assists.

So a goal every 165 minutes (1.8 games).

Joint 3rd goalscorer, kinda need to see him on the pitch more right? Just need to forget he used to play for Rotherham as that doesn't go down too well with some 😬

He was excellent last night, scored a very good goal and was involved constantly.
Previous to that, I think he’s been quite poor. Poor link up, poor decisions or final ball. He’s not looked that quick either. It has nothing to do from coming from Rotherham, he’s just looked average. Maybe he’s not been fully fit, as last night he was class.

Fingers crossed he can continue that level of performance against more advanced opponents.

In 1995 Lionel Pickering appointed Jim Smith - there was significant opposition to his appointment at the time. Look how that turned out.
That’s one of the reasons why I’m advocating Steve Bruce. Experienced manager with several promotions to his name. Some on here wouldn’t want him - probably the same people who didn’t rate Jim Smith.

    Interesting logic.
Ironically Bruce very nearly got the job instead of Smith in 1995. Thankfully he didn’t as history would’ve been very different. Fingers crossed he doesn’t get it this time either!

Watching Sibley in games recently I am more and more convinced that he is being over-managed!

Zlatan used to say that he was a Ferrari being driven like a Fiat!

Sir Matt Busby said to Bestie “George, just be in the round 15 minutes before kick-off and you’re in the team!”

Sibley is too good to be micromanaged. Would it be best for Mr Warne to let him off the lead and play to his strengths?

Use him or lose him to a Prem team and watch his value multiply for them!

There’s not a chance a Prem team will be looking at Sibley. I like Sibley but he has to do better. Should’ve scored yesterday with a very good chance and didn’t impress hugely. I hope he keeps his place, but not sure where he fits into our current system.

Yep DC had/has a four year plan and we're only one year and a bit into it. I didn't particularly see it as a thrilling appointment to take us into a new era more of a reduced risk safe pair of hands. There seems to be as much negative comment about the style of football rather than accruing points - personally I don't care so much about how we play as long as we win and get out of L1. Hoofball for a season or two will be fine as long as we get promoted. I appreciate I may be in the minority though

Winning football top trumps style of football for me too. The problem now is we’re not winning and as soon as that happens playing the way we are cracks appear. Same happened under Rowett. We were top 2 at Christmas and then it went south. The football was similar but results weren’t and the pressure built. Warne is protected by the contract. Can’t see us doing anything, so we have to grin and bear it. Could be a long winter.

Ted Lasso series 2 is really poor compared to the first.

The football totally disappears. Ted is in it less and the storylines are increasingly tedious and unrealistic.  Not sure I can struggle through series 3.

It’s awful. The first series was alright, but the 2nd is comfortably one of the worst ‘comedies’ I’ve seen. Backs up my theory that the US don’t do sitcoms well.

I take it you haven't seen much of our academy. Radcliffe is another easily capable.

He’s not an academy product. He came from Burton in the summer and has played about 3 games so far. He could be like a Rooney and make the bench/the odd appearance

He steered us well clear of the troubles he found us in, for us into a position probably higher than our depleted squad at the time warranted and then when it came undone was sacked after laughing with Brighton gaffer at 3-0 down.

Not a pretty end but you missed out where he took us from in your assessment

I said we had a decent run. But McClarens problem has alway been he doesn’t know what to do when things start to go wrong. Management is easy when you’re sailing on that wave of wins. It’s a much tougher task when he has to change it when things go south. Mac 2 was average. I hope Mac 3 never happens.

I cant remember .. too much water under the bridge but was the 2nd time when he refused to put the newcatle link to bed and made his position untenable at the club

    No, that was Mac 1.

Mac 2 was more defensive, not as much fun. Julian De Sart and a 3-0 defeat at Brighton was how it ended. No where near as good as Mac 1, more cautious. One decent run and then the usual wheels came off when he had to react to a bad spell. He couldn’t turn it round. Move on folks!

  14. 1Wildsmith 7 Did everything asked of him.

    35Nelson 7 Defended well

6Cashin 6.5 A few stray passes but decent overall

3Forsyth 7 solid as ever, good on the ball, one of our better players again.

    11Méndez-Laing 5.5 Looked tired

17Sibley 7 Good. Used it well. A threat

    12Smith 6.5 Fine

    4Hourihane 6

Embleton 5.5 Can’t run. Half hearted clearances. Not fit but expected a bit more dynamism

    22Fornah 6 Fine

20Elder 5.5 Looked lost, not his fault, but he’s a left back and not an attacking player

Barkhuizen 6.5 Did ok. Should have hit target at the end

10Waghorn 7 Worked hard, hit bar. Looked lively

14Washington 5.5 Poor. Never looks likely to score and poor final ball for Waghorn. Energy isn’t enough when you have little quality.

9Collins 7 Better than Washington. Drifted too much in Sibleys way but did well. Good peno.

  15. I struggled to understand our formation in the first half. Was it a 3 or a 4 at the back? If it was a 4 which it seemed it was on occasions, where the hell was Elder playing? I struggled to understand his role all afternoon. If it was a 3, Elder and Smith have to be the worst 2 wingbacks going forward I’ve seen. They made  Richard Jackson and Paul Boertien look like Carlos and Cafu for Brazil. Very odd tactics today.

Thought Sibley did well when he came on, linked well down the left. Embleton looked like he couldn’t run, very one paced. Collins did well but drifts to the left too much. Washington is terrible. Despite this, we came closest first half. A point probably fair. Thought the ref was decent, but linesman was awful.

The two comments dont go hand in hand, him not being capable of playing in the back 3 isnt the reason I think he is overrated. I have always thought he was overrated & if you look at my posts from last season I said he shouldnt be first choice CB & id still say that this season.

If Cashin shouldn’t have been first choice centre half last season then who would you have chosen?

    Stearman?

    Chester?

    Davies?

Cashin was better than all 3 easily. He had a slight blip towards the end, but he was playing his first full season. I don’t think the club would be able to turn down 2 million plus for him. Brighton’s recruitment has been unbelievable, so he must have summat about him if they are interested.

Clowes needs to green light as many signings as permissible.

Why would he? We have wasted a great opportunity in picking up younger free transfers. Those players have now been snapped up. All that is left is the dregs. The has beens. A loan or two is the only option now. The summer recruitment has been an absolute shambles. Everything Warne said he wanted, we’ve gone and got the opposite. I wouldn’t trust him or the ‘recruitment team’ to get the right personnel in now. They need to focus on what we have and sorting it out on the training ground. The level of performance and tactics is a massive worry. We look way off it.

  18. I can’t believe the hype our fans had about Bradley when we signed him. Some went way OTT. Made out we were signing the new Stimac. Ridiculous. That being said, I didn’t expect him to be a Bragstaad/Albentosa wannabe. For a player of 6ft4 he is shocking at attacking the ball. Soooo slow. Nelson not much better. Great recruitment.

  19. Remember a few weeks ago when there was rumours that Warne had left? Makes you think, did something kick off? I can’t believe how dysfunctional this team/squad is. Something isn’t right. We declined a little last season to miss out. But there are no explanations for the nervousness, the lack of ideas, the lack of anything in regards performances. Strange times.
He’s bigging Oxford up, but they lost their first 2 games too so can’t be that good. He has to switch to a back 4, it’s not working, but what a waste of a pre season that is when we’ve spent the whole time prepping to play with a 3. He’s under big pressure now for me.
