It would be good to achieve promotion tomorrow, 27/04/2024. What a coincidence that is 78 years to the day that DCFC won the FA Cup 27/04/1946.

hope60 reacted to On the Ram Page in Paul Warne
I understand your frustration at wanting to see exciting, flowing football through all areas of the team with midfield dominating and passing through the lines. But I would argue we just haven’t had the players to do this the way you want.
The first point I would make is that you are assuming that at every stage of every game, the players are doing exactly what is asked of them by the management team. I don’t believe this. They don’t encourage players not to pass to each other - they don’t encourage them not to attack the opposition. I have lost count of the number of times in his interviews after the game where he has “criticised” his players for not being braver on the ball and in games. The matches at the end of the season are slightly different as all that matters is gaining 3 points (e.g. Cambridge).
the fact is that our midfield (until Adams arrived) was weak - physically, aggressively and pace wise too. We were bullied off the ball too much, waltzed around by younger, quicker players (Peterborough). We just did not have the right players in there to compete. Before Adams arrival we didn’t have anyone in there who could be aggressive, have any pace or could tackle. Fornah was tried for a while but ran out of steam and made mistakes. At least playing 3 at the back, gives you more potential bodies in midfield with the wingbacks available to help out, but even them, unless it was Forsyth or Nayambe, they we’re not tacklers. Added to this was poor movement off the ball and poor passing. Unfortunately, Hourihane is no longer mobile enough to dominate midfield and we have looked better since he has not been in the side.
Our midfield needs a complete overhaul in the summer. Hopefully we can get Adams in permanently but we need others of similar ilk and also a good playmaker. I think Warne was trying very hard to get the right midfielders in, but it just didn’t happen until Adams arrived.
Finally, I would add that with all the injuries we have had this season (Ward, Elder, Forsyth, Rooney, Bird, Waghorn, Washington, Nyambe, JJ,Embleton,Thompson,Gayle,Barkhuizen), Warne has done a remarkable job in patching us up but still managing to pick up points. Admittedly, not in the exiting way we would all want to see, but there have been some good footballing performances too. Plenty of goals have been scored too (9 more than last year despite losing our talisman McGoldrick).
All in all, I think we have done pretty well, but I think you are wrong to lay all the Blame on Paul Warne for our less exciting displays - much is down to the players too. I am sure we will recruit well during the summer.

We should have been comfortable by half time 2 or 3 nil. Not brilliant, but a decent hard working performance and a deserved win.
Wouldn't have wanted me blood pressure taking near the end mind.
We are nowhere near capable of the dark arts like these sides, where do they learn it? Is it all they work on in training when they are due to play Derby?

Don’t tell that they are another team who are the worst in the league, sat one place behind us before tonight. We keep playing the worst team in the league every week - how come?
We absolutely battered them tonight especially 2nd half. Could it be we may be a better team than so many on here think?

Probably because the manager who is able to monitor them in training day in day out and get regular reports on their progress doesn't think they're quite ready.
Why beat the manager for this? Do you know something he doesn't?

Possibly because they’ve taken a dislike to certain players and/or management (even hate with a passion in one case) and no matter what, to perpetuate that level of dislike, they have to go searching for any fact/statistic which might help to validate their point of view?

Nice to see Bradley’s reaction to Wilson defending our box well …run up to him and congratulated him …I like that …

I was at Port Vale last night and the last word I'd use to describe it is boring!
There was a great atmosphere among the Derby fans from kick off. We were brought together by the shared endurance of traffic jams, crap facilities (again), lack of organisation and over-officious stewarding pre-match.
I thought we played well and always felt confident of the win. Yes, they had some possession in midfield with neat and tidy play that contributed to a good game but they created very little, whereas we looked dangerous every time we attacked - direct and strong. Their goalkeeper was clearly man of the match (didn't he have a stormer against us at our place last season, too?) Another night, one of those early chances goes in and the scoreline would have looked more comfortable. As it was, I felt sure we would score eventually as they tired.
Wilson is rapidly becoming one of my favourite footballers. You can tell he's revelling in being fit and playing in front of the biggest set of fans of his career. But everyone played their part; I don't get the hate for Collins as he worked his socks off again and could have had two on another night.
What a dollop that Ikpeazu is! Referee should have booked him early for his wrestling/diving, would have cut it out. Instead it just gave Cashin an opportunity to make him look clumsy, which he did with aplomb.
Hourihane needs to let someone else onto set pieces occasionally as the lack of delivery is noticeable. He worked hard across the rest of the pitch though against their busy midfield and closed down well.
What a classy goal to decide the game. Barkhuizen's harrying won the ball back, a peach of a low cross from Mendez-Laing and JJ finished with aplomb. Anyone else would have took a touch and the defender cleared it. But that young man has quality and he showed it just when needed. In his celebration right in front of us he looked quite emotional, another player hoping to put his injury demons behind him. I hope he does, because if he can keep fit he could help fire us to promotion this season.
Come on you Rams! ⚽️

The problem is mate that us older lads know that promotion from this league does not rely on stats. It relies on team spirit, hard work and a bit of luck (after the last few years that's one thing we hopefully have in the bank). Many of us wax lyrical about Bobby Davison and Phil Gee firing us to glorious promotions yet often the games were bloody hard work with just an occasional flash of brilliance....like NML's superb pass to the young lad tonight.
The Rams are going up 🐏

A decent enough performance. Another 3 points, this time away from home and with a clean sheet to boot, which the coaches will absolutely love. Could it be that patience is now beginning to reap its own rewards?
With games coming thick and fast right through to the New Year, we are finishing the year in as good form as any side in the division and while tonight's was not a flashy performance, a la Barnsley, or Northampton, I thought it was thoroughly professional and comfortable enough, if truth be told.

Reading some of these comments, really don't understand the need to slag certain ones off in a need to find a negative...bizarre, they are all part of the squad and will have a contribution to make over the season.
No wonder why PW often gets defensive in interviews.

Great match, Mr Warne. You sent us out to play football on the front foot. But it wasn’t just gung-ho let’s get at ‘em, it was well managed, using patience when we needed. We had a couple of wobbly bits in midfield, and a couple at the back, but weren’t really threatened. Only one or two Port Vale shots on target all match. We kept playing the ball both on the ground and through the midfield, as well as using wings and crosses. What’s not to like?

Agree with that
one thing that does intrigue me
The number of times i see on here “derby won , but so and so were rubbish”
not a dig at u .. but at what point do we give our lads credit for making them look rubbish.
pressing , harrying them, being physical, out running them , winning challenges, getting in tight .. for too long these were things we didnt do which makes other team look bad.
while the football is crap, there is an ugly side to the game that allows u to win football matches
obviously we all want the football to he 200 times better but i think we do the lads a little dis service sometimes

I wonder if there is a Championship table based on Prutton's forecasts anywhere.
Pretty sure Notts Forest would be top of that table.
Seems he doesn't want to upset his old fans by forecasting a defeat for the tree huggers.
And he's not good at forecasting our results either, lol.
