I watched the BBC tonight for their screening of remembering D-Day, I was in Tears, Boys of 18 and others who never got to live their lives to the full, They thought it was their duty to join up and fight, For someone who has always had something to say about all things in life...I now find very difficult to explain how I feel...so The best I can do is.

Following a 2019 trip following in the footsteps of Muckerette’s grandad through Flanders, we’ve spent the last two D Days up on the Normandy beaches (based a stones throw from Pegasus Bridge).
I’m no fan of history per sé, but I’m a massive fan of all those that were involved, and/or affected. The last two Junes have been a massive eye opener for me, and we’ll be sparing them a minute or two of our holiday further east, come Thursday.

Kind of off topic… but kind of not!
After being on the Normandy beaches for the past two D Days, we’ve decided to put a whole new twist on things tomorrow, and will be spreading our thoughts and respects to all, regardless of which team they played for, as we visit the “Memorial Museum of the Maginot Line of the Rhine.”
Just “The right side of the border”! 👀, and only a 20mile return pootle away from our campsite. Just a small section of the first (French) line of defence, which effectively achieved nowt, as the Germans just took the long way round via Belgium! 🙄
Appreciate it ain’t Normandy, and there’s no connection in the true sense, but it still kind of seems fitting, under the circumstances!
Im sure our main thoughts shall remain 450 miles WNW of here though. It’d be rude not to!

One of the pilots who flew the gliders landed 50 yards from Pegasus Bridge, The Germans had driven stakes into the ground all attached with wires and that if you hit them it would set off an explosion in the field and the German Soldiers would be on the attack, The field he landed in was to be furnished with stakes the next Morning, All gliders came in at 90mph...now that is a crash landing 👍
The Cafe near the bridge is now called the Pegasus Cafe they interviewed the owners Daughter some time ago as she was there as a child when the bridge was taken...she said she remembers she has never been so happy since that day ☺️

You’re probably right but this latest action feels as if it could be seismically shifting of the game itself, whichever way it goes.
The soul of the game in the sense of relatively equal competition that allowed, for example, us as an East Midland club with a proud and long history to reach the pinnacle of the game in this country and, importantly, stay there for several years, is long gone. Likely never to return. When clubs are owned by countries and extraordinarily wealthy ones at that, with aims of a financial free for all and overturning the status quo, ignoring the rules that don’t suit, then the whole sport had better be wary. Today the PL, tomorrow UEFA, the day after FIFA, or control of their competitions anyway.
If the PL lose then the domination of the wealthy few gets worse and worse; if they win they will not only create the most godforsaken administrative mess as they work out who really won what over the last 10 years (and generate endless other disputes in the process) but they will also have to cede authority in a number of areas to keep the other major players happy; if it’s a PR draw, and all the charges are dropped, then the richest get stronger.
I am so glad I have lived my era, seen my football, seen a game and sport with some reasonable approximation of soul.

    The 115 charges will disappear.
City getting points deductions or stripped of trophies is as likely as Donald Trump going to jail.
Its all theatre when it comes to the big boys.

Had bugger all rain so far. I think the most was in Manchester but that sounds normal for that part of the country. Loving the 2 weeks here doing walks in the Peak District.

Currently venturing out around the Route de vin from our campsite base in Sélestat, Alsace, in Le Grand Est of France. It’s very much akin to our very own NE enclave of Geordieland!  👀
We’re literally surrounded by (and cycling through) acres and acres of the makings of the local Alsace wines, and Muckerette’s just left the supermarché clutching a bottle of Bordeaux! 🤣
Wet when we arrived (on Saturday) and all day Sunday, but it’s been cracking the cobblestones today, and we’re in for at least a week of mid-20’s sunshine, which suits us just fine!
We have a very loose plan to visit the local Chateau, but not convinced either we or our mid-range (pedal-assist) E-bikes are up to scaling 16% inclines up The Vosges Mountains, so we’ll spend a week building up to it, then see what happens in week two!  We may try and fail, or we may just opt to take the shuttle bus from town! 😲😁😎🥂🚴‍♀️

Is soon to be upon us, 80 years ago, An Invasion that nearly never happened, The weather put it off on the 5th of June, There was a gap in the weather on the 6th so it was on, 150,000 was the initial landing...Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword, Britain, USA and Canada, The Atlantic Wall awaits them.
I watched last night "D-Day The Unheard Tapes" on iPlayer, 3 1 hour programmes of tapes from Soldiers that were there(with actors lip syncing the words)It's hard to put into words what I think of these Soldiers that put their lives on the line, 1000s of them never came back, 1000s of French Citizens lost their lives.
Not many left now as time moves on, Just the 1 Soldier from York.

just got back from a 4 day trip with the boys/lads for a joint-50th birthday, in Riga, Latvia.
Whilst we had a great laugh, and the food and beers were very good, it seemed very pricey, almost topping English prices, and wasn't too special. We found lots of little pockets of bars and restaurants and I was happy with some of the outside sitting areas, it's not a patch on other big cities, such as Prague and Budapest.
I am off to Stalis, Crete next Friday for a week of relaxing Tournament Football watching. I think it's the 8th tournament I've done there.
