Dartmouth Ram got a reaction from emjem in Academy Players Ready to Step Up
Now that it’s becoming apparent that there isn’t as much in the transfer kitty as we’d all hoped, it asks the question whether we have anyone in our Academy at the moment who could make the step up to the First Team?
Is Tony Weston or Dajaune Brown the out-and-out Number 9 we so desperately need? Granted Brown’s been loaned to Gateshead but we do have the option to recall him after 28 days.
Would Adebayo Fapetu be that Ball-Winning Midfielder that we hoped Fornah would be? Dare I also mention that we also have a certain Bradley Johnson as an overage Academy Player who could do that role…
Are Carlos Richards or Ben Radcliffe an option out wide or are they either not ready or not good enough?
Personally, I would much rather us take a chance on our Academy Lads that have another over 30’s lunk on a bloated salary with little or no resale value. We need players at this stage of the season who are hungry and want to fight for the shirt which seems to be missing at the moment.
For me that would be Weston & Fapetu both of which have looked good in cup games, definitely worth a gamble if we can’t get the players we want.
Be interesting to know everyone else’s thoughts

Weston, Brown, Robinson and Fapetu should have played more games between them with Weston maybe even being a starter. Fapetu looked twice the player Fornah has proven to be.
But Whilst Warne is in charge, may as well close the academy, close the case and close the thread.

I don’t know. Warne probably doesn’t either as he barely gave any of our academy lads a chance in the EFL Trophy. A big opportunity missed to check if these players are ready in a non pressure situation.

Agreed.
But on what planet are we paying a loan fee for a 32 year old when funds are as tight as they are. Fair play if that’s Weds stance. But if it’s a business power play then they’re wasting their time.

Can see it with add ons. £300k, with £50k promotion and £50k 50 appearances or something along those lines.

I wonder if it's the lad from Brentford - Olakigbe - came on in the first half of extra time in their cup game vs. Wolves.

Dartmouth Ram reacted to Ambitious in That has to be it now surely
It’s a very sad situation. I feel the players and the coaching staff have an us against them mentality (Derby supporters being the them) and it’s just toxic.
Look at the fallout from the game today and I could make an argument for Paul Warne to be one of the most hated managers of this club in my lifetime and probably the most hated manager of the past 20 years. I can only think of John Gregory and Phil Brown as worse situations. I don’t think Jewell got it this bad, certainly didn’t have this level of animosity towards him at the time from memory, in my opinion.
I think any connection between the fans and Warne is well and truly sullied. Warne is waiting for a payout from Clowes and in the meantime the atmosphere at the club continues to get worse. We are looking at a complete rebuild next summer, again, because of our short-term approach (albeit under restrictions) so the commercial strength of this club, the fans, should be considered. A League One Paul Warne’s Derby County kicks off next season to an opening crowd below 20,000 - in my opinion.

Nelson or Fornah for me.
Nelson looks a great defender at this level, especially when played in a back four. Fornah solves one of the biggest problems we have in the team which is legs and energy in midfield.
Both are equally important to the team.

Fornah looks the standout to me, gives us athleticism in midfield and can carry the ball forward well and pick a pass.

To Warne's credit, I think reading between the lines that we were in for Nyambe from a fairly early point in the window. He kept making reference to a player who was waiting for a Championship move but hopefully will come. I think that may have been in reference to Nyambe.
He's going to be a on a very good wage here - he was one of Wigan's highest earners last season in the Championship. He rejected a decent contract from Blackburn the season before to get it. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he's on £10-12k a week here, perhaps why it was negotiated until January as it was a big investment on our part and Nyambe didn't really fancy playing League One.
It looks like it's working out at present, though.

Dartmouth Ram reacted to DavesaRam in Signing Of The Season So Far???
I like Wilson because he excites the fans. He doesn’t look to pass sideways or backwards, neither does he just bang a cross to no-one, he would much rather take his man on and make something happen. He is perhaps the best dribbler we’ve had at Derby for years and years.
But my vote is for Fornah and Nyambe in equal measures because they have added so much to the whole squad. They have freed other players to “do their thing” instead of having to do half of someone else’s role - hence Smith’s performance at Blackpool.

Curtis Nelson, absolute rock

it's interesting that the later signings on the whole have been better, Nyambe, Fornah and Waghorn. I wonder if there was a change in prodecure?

FWIW, agree 100% with the OP

For me, Fornah. First 2 games saw early doors, unnecessary yellow cards and I doubted him. Since then he's become a rock in defence and exciting going forward. His performances have allowed Bird to play the #10 role where he started slowly but grew into the game providing some very good attacking passes. Downside of him playing there is it denies Sibs the chance to play his preferred role...

Same four as everyone else - Nelson, Nyambe, Fornah & Waghorn.
Fornah is the player who I like most, you can really see a potential significant upside to him and his play. Technically and physically, he's fantastic. He's still very raw, but feel that he's a player who does have a pretty high ceiling - certainly no less talented than Bird, Sibley or Knight which is huge considering how cheap we were to pick him up.

Dartmouth Ram reacted to RodleyRam in Signing Of The Season So Far???
Most of the signings add something different. I was sceptical about an apparent lack of strategy and a few too many in the 'been there, done that' category but Fornah, Wilson and the Cat give us a little more dynamism. It's a nice blend overall.
Nelson the quiet standout for me so far.

Fornah, every team needs that kind of player. A very good signing IMO
