Our "ability to pay more" is set by Clowes, not the EFL.
The decision to not use any of our budget on transfer fees in the summer and put it all towards wages was Warne's decision.

How big do you think our budget needs to be to earn promotion? Clowes thinks it's enough already. Historic figures from other clubs suggest we'll have a top 3 budget for the current season, even though the decision was made not to spend any of it on transfer fees.

Last season, Plymouth won promotion with 101 points with a £10m budget - £9.1m on wages (inclusive of promotion bonuses) and £900k on fees. Our wage budget will be higher (even excluding promotion bonuses), and we also spent 150% more on agent fees than they did.

It's all very well saying we chose not to spend what we had available but have you considered that maybe we did try to spend it and players were not interested in coming to us or that maybe the players available didn't fit the profile and attitudes we were seeking ?

They probably did.  But those restrictions would also apply to Oxford, Portsmouth and every other team in the league.   Other coaches seem to be doing a better job of getting the most out of the resources available.

If they don't want to join us, or we don't want them anyway, it's hardly going to change when we aren't subject to Clowes' business plan which was approved by the EFL.

That comment by Warne grinds my gears.....

Having recruited for "attitude" it's 50:50 whether our team will decide a gentle jog is all they need to commit to.

And now Warne implies he tells them stuff and they don't take any notice...

Thank goodness we didn't go for any wrong uns....

Just had a quick glance at the fixtures... I can see another 4 wins (out of 4) before we finally drop points for the draw at Oxford.
I can see lots of overflowing glasses two nights later, as we ring in 2024.
If we ain't top by then, we'll be very, VERY close!

... Then there's the five wins from 5 in January, of course.

Yep... positively overflowing!  Cheers!
