If everyone could live forever then the planet would be so overcrowded that we'd end up killing it off even more quickly than we already are. What happens then?

We are a long way from anywhere else in the universe that is habitable and we are a long way from making anywhere close enough to travel to habitable for people in large numbers. Of course with unlimited time we'd figure it out, but we even if we as a species have unlimited time the planet we live on does not.

I genuinely think we'd end up in a situation where the 'immortality treatment' we are hypothetically discussing would be paywalled by some horrible morons (think Musk on steroids) that didn't actually invent it or produce it but were in the right place at the right time on the money side of things. To combat overcrowding only the elite can actually afford it, everyone else is just left hanging.

Yup - that's the subtext here. Those who get to live forever are the ones who can afford it, and they get to select the type of people they think are deserving of being immortal. And we know what type they mean. It's basic eugenics

Interesting fact: 109 billion people have lived and died since the dawn of humanity (192,000 years). Consider for a long time there were only a few thousand Homo sapiens roaming around.

Imagine if they all lived forever.

Imagine how packed the afterlife is.

Speaking as an introvert, that certainly doesn't sound much like heaven to me.
