It’s Derby that’s entered not the club.

Just the most useless government in memory getting something wrong again…… not separating Derby and County Durham in their graphic!

Didn’t make the connection with County Durham! Ridiculous.

Just seen this tweet from the Minister for Culture. It lists “Derby County” as applying for the next European City of Culture (not “Derby” and not “Derbyshire”).  What’s that all about, then?

Also how has this been extended to areas/regions/counties when the name is City of Culture. Taken their cue from the "Champions" League I think.

Derby has a bit of a head start. Tracy Emin showed off a pile of bricks in the Tate Modern to massive acclaim (not sure by who).

We have our own mouldering piles already with the Hippodrome and the Warehouse at bottom of Uttoxeter road. We do lose points for filling in the hole though.

On the downside it will take the council at least 10 years to decide what to do with any money coming in, a host of self appointed cultural guardians will object to everything and the city will just go on slightly decaying as it has for decades.

Live near Coventry and there's a lot of great stuff going on over there at the moment. It's actually impressive and Derby could do worse than to go for it. As for Coventry, yup it's a cheap and easy shot but The Specials, Two Tone, Delia Derbyshire, culturally diverse city. Look, I get it, sixties planning eyesore but there's enough there to make a pretty decent event out of and - to date - they're doing a pretty good job, even in all of what has been thrown at them.

People who slag off cities like Coventry are people who haven't been there.
