Completey disagree because short term is always most important, you don't get to stick around for long term if the short and medium terms are a disaster. 10 defeats in 12 now, if we loose tommorow he has to go for me. Been against since pretty early days tbh, piss poor recruitment hasn't helped but the style of football is shocking and not pragmatic with the players at his disposal.

And thats the joy of football & this forum. We are allowed to disagree & have different points of view. Love it!

Max Bird - Not firing yet this season but last season when he swept the board with club awards was completely down to calculated design. Played against scunny, hauled off at half time, told where he needed to improve and helped in that, came back to not only play in the first team but be one of our best players in the second half of last season. A fantastic coaching example. He’s dipped in form at the moment but will come back as he’s a big talent.

Louie Sibley - didn’t have to play him last season - calculated design

Lee Buchanan - Sold max and loaned out Malone to give Lee a chance, Fozzy has been fit. He has been one of the best performers in recent weeks - calculated design.

Knight - Both Lampard and Cocu deserve credit for his development.

Yes it is down to Cocu. He deserves criticism for the results and performances right now but he has excelled at bringing the youth through and in the long term we will reap the rewards, even if Cocu himself may not. Anyone who says otherwise is blinded by Cocu out blinkers, there are parts of the job he has done well and deserves credit for.

However the critical part is getting results and he needs to get some now more than ever.

How do you define a bad decision.....? Change guarantees nothing but neither does sticking with current. You have to base your decision on what is most likely to deliver long term sustainable success. Constant change is not conducive to long term sustainable success - stability is the key

The stats suggest the opposite; promotion from sticking with a manager is very rare. Most promotions happen in the first full season of a manager's term.

Not getting promoted is itself unsustainable. In the Championship you can't build because being competitive requires spending far more than you get in. Your resources drain away. It's an insane position for this league to be in and surely can't go on much longer, but as things stand, your assertion is extremely shaky.

What if your clubs stated philosophy is to build through the academy ?

And yet still in the same league as us ?

we are nowhere near equal-footing to them if that is what you are suggesting. They a -1 goal off automatic promotion spot right now. We are 2nd bottom in real terms. If Sheff Weds win their appeal that is....

Watford are competitive, winning, have great players, have cash in the bank, have a new-manager Bounce... do I need to go on? lol

Never said that - just said they are in the same league as us

You clearly need to justify your opinion very badly - are you OK?

And now find themselves relegated and back in the Championship.......that’s an interesting definition of making it work Roy?

True ? But it’s as relevant as any! There’s plenty of ways to get were you want - no one size fits all.

Fully agree - thats the joy of football ?

Maybe if Mel is going to emulate Watford in the managerial hiring & firing stakes he should also go & buy about 4 other teams like the Pozzo’s to shift players between & get past FFP !!

haha, not at all sir. Just elaborating on what I see as a difference. I think Mel would rather Derby be a yo-yo club than persistently not quite getting promoted.

It's never worked anywhere else as a main philosophy. Some clubs have made a decent profit from their academies, but no team at this level has ever been promoted with half a team of academy products as far as I know.

That said, logically, Championship teams are likely to be far more reliant on UK and Irish players from next year, so it's possible things will change in that regard.

Maybe Mel is playing the long game. As another famous businessman once said

‘This time next year Rodney we’ll be......’

?
