Wow. I can't believe it. What were they thinking? He should've put the bike in the kitchen for her so if she was ever to get injured ridding the damn thing she could still cook him tea!

Real people haven't been complaining. Mentally deranged loudmouth tw@s on twitter have been complaining.

A useful tip for modern life is to either completely disregard or be diametrically opposed to whatever bile the blue check mark brigade are currently spewing.

Its getting ridiculous, nearly every other advert goes over the top trying to hit diversity targets and when they don't this happens.

Won't be long before you don't see any straight, white men/couples in adverts because they've just given up and submitted to the screaming outrage mob.

Thought you was going to say it's the most annoying advert around.

Isn't it though?  That instructor on the screen wants his head introducing to a baseball bat...

"this" being - some people on Twitter offering their own personal critiques, and then Sky reporting it like it's news (knowing full well it will start even more arguments in the process)

It's not actually the crap advert that is the problem here.

The exact same situation occurs in reverse eg some people on twitter were angry that Doctor Who is a woman "oh it's just diversity gone mad" - and that was a "news" story too

'Real people' aren't going to fork out 2 grand for their product (and 40 quid a month for 'courses), so it doesn't matter that they are not complaining.

It is quite possible that Pelaton has completely misjudged the attitudes of their target market, so they would at least need to consider pulling the advert.

It's simple economics.

What is wrong with the advert then?  For a 30s advert its no better worse than hundreds of others apart from the fact a man buys a women a exercise bike - anything else is people reading their own agenda into it.

Dr Who was roundly criticized for being to woke iirc.  Nobody cares if a woman is the lead, we have always had strong female characters.  People care about being entertained and/or having agenda's thrust on them which is why the Ghostbusters reboot failed, Charlie's Angel's failed and Batwoman has failed etc.  Literally nobody cared that the latest Mandalorian had a heroine or was directed by a woman because it was entertaining.

Or they're rubbing their hands together with glee because they've received a poo ton of publicity for not really doing anything wrong.

This just isn't true though, or at least when the announcement was made. A similar 'angry mob' got far more publicity than they warranted when it was announced that the Doctor was going to be a woman. It's not just a case of liberal snowflakes being offended on Twitter, as it works both ways.

The episodes themselves were criticised for being 'too woke', but this was long after the initial announcement.

The Deliveroo advert has been banned as well. Some millennials companied that the different takeaways don’t all get delivered together.

Nor seemly can you actually dive head first into the bag to reach the very bottom.

Sad times.

Yep - you know you can ignore them though right? They only exist as a mob because the media publicise it as such - knowing full well that they are pushing the buttons of people like you.

Like most adverts - it shows a startling lack of originality, it's very cheesy and cliched - plus

it's for something I would never buy. So I will happily ignore it. Were it not for this thread I wouldn't even be conscious of it.

OK - if that's what it was - but my point still stands. It's just the other side of the same moron coin.

As you say - if stuff is entertaining then 1) people are just entertained by it and 2) the media have nothing to start a fight over

Are you sure it was millennials?

The publicity that has resulted in 1.5 billion being wiped off the value of the company?

Dunno tbh, not watched Dr. Who in about 30 years ?  Just remember the ratings falling being blamed on the new series being preachy and woke.

Can they be ignored?  Peloton stock took a 9% hit today.

The problem is with all this outrage culture is its started by people with little to no intention of buying into whatever it is they are raging against anyway.  'Go woke, go broke' is a popular phrase these days because various companies, movies, tv shows, etc pander to the outrage mob and change their product - alienating existing buyers/viewers.  The mob happy that their demands have been met then move onto their next target and the cycle starts over again leaving whatever it was they were raging about last week in a mess.

Social media wields to much power given that a tiny vocal minority can cause so much damage - aided by lazy journalism that feed off the clickbait.

Its not so much pushing my buttons as I just wish people would show some backbone and stand up to it.  With regards to this advert its a perfectly acceptable advert, nothing remarkable about it but certainly nothing wrong with it.  If it was part of a series of adverts they were doing and the second one featured a chubby bloke watching football on the sofa and his missus bought him a peloton literally nobody would complain.

Didn't realise that. Fair enough.

I genuinely have no idea how it's had that effect. If I had watched it without knowing what's going on, I would have just thought it's a crap, cringey advert. Wouldn't have even entered my head that it could be construed as sexist.
