G STAR RAM
Very good article, and good to see the piece from the Notts County chairman buried at the end of the article, which basically confirms that this is not about us taking a bigger piece of the pie. Having thought about this, one thing I would like to see prior to any new deal is limits on certain things - wages, agents fees, transfer fees. It's ok trying to negotiate a better deal for the club's of the intention is to clear debts, cover current expenditure levels or even subsidise ticket prices, however, I suspect it would only lead to more greed and higher transfer fees, agents fees and wage demands! Good last paragraph. We all know which way it will go, dont we? There are too many owners of championship clubs that are looking at the pot of gold further up the ladder rather than making their club run debt free and sustainable. Derby are caught in the middle, Mel will want the pot of gold, but at the same time keeping good ties with the city / community.
ThePrisoner
Sky agree five-year deal with EFL. £595m. 35% more than current deal. 138 games, up to 158 for last two years of deal. Sky can stream midweek fixtures.

therealhantsram
Interesting. If anything more happens on this, I wouldn't expect we would hear anything until towards the end of the season. No doubt plenty more back room discussions over the coming months. Huddersfield v Brighton or Derby v Leeds Which would attract a larger TV audience? Well Huddersfield vs Brighton obviously seeing as the £100m accounts for hundreds of TV deals with networks all over the world combined in one figure, and the £3m is largely made up of domestic broadcasts. The figure that every Premier League side gets for domestic broadcast is about £34m.... so that would be the fairer comparison, £34m v £3m. £3m per Championship club is £72m. That is in line with the Eredivisie (£70m), so why not compare Ajax with Leeds and PSV with Derby?

Probably because the debate is centered around the difference between the Prem and the Championship, the Eredivisie doesn't come into it at all. Day
The English Football League has agreed a controversial new television rights deal with Sky Sports, worth £595m. The deal, which runs from the start of next season until May 2024, is a 35% increase on the previous contract. But a number of the Championship's larger clubs feel it undervalues how much the rights are worth and will meet on Tuesday to discuss their next move. CWC1983
Simon Jordan gave a good summary last night. The only option available is to breakaway from the league, but he said in reality its a non starter and the "big clubs" are basically sabre rattling. At the moment, transfers between clubs in the EFL can be spread over years due to current rules, but a breakaway league will not be included within these rules and clubs will have to stump up the whole fee in a oner. He said a 5 year deal is probobly too long given how technology and various ways of watching tv will likely evolve. He pointed out that apart from the fans of the championship, no one is really interested in watching it on tv, so if the Leeds, Villa ( Mel by association) owners feel they can get a better deal then put up or shut up. What a really strange comment. Fans of Championship teams are more likely to attend games I imagine than watching it on tv. If nobody is bothered about watching it why are Sky paying £595 million for the rights? Also is he suggesting that people who aren't fans of the Premier League still watch the games? Archied
Simple answer is prem and championship merged in tv deal again , all games on red button and clubs get pro rata money on viewers ,, simples , at this point the prem is eating it all with a mix of captive audience and marketing,,, how many fans of Derby ,Leeds , villa ,forest ,Norwich ect ect ect would be watching man untd if they could choose to watch they’re own team ,, breakaway I say and set up streaming in direct competition with sky prem games and watch the so called big clubs viewing figure dilute

therealhantsram
According to Talk Sport, the 19 clubs plan to take the EFL to court to block the deal and want the resignation of the EFL Chief Executive to boot.
curb
The Football League buried their heads in the sand and caused the break away of the Premier League which shafted football for the good of a few greedy clubs. Now they’re doing it again. Their incompetence will cause another break away, this time screwing over the lower league clubs. The big Championship clubs don’t want to screw over the rest of the league, but are left with no real choice. At this point in time with the TV landscape changing so rapidly, a five year deal is absolutely ridiculous and unworkable.
