With Mel itching to blow his wad on players we rushed in and bought players for the hell of it, before PC knew what he had or what formation to play. This led to a few square pegs in round holes. By this point he'd spent £15,000,000 on players. This was catastrophic. You have to have some idea of what you have at your disposal and how you're going to use them before you make signings, otherwise you get decent players not playing. Take Weimann for example. From little snippets from various articles it's clear that we signed Weimann as a striker and then decided to go with a lone forward, with Clement going on to say 'Andreas can't play out wide' or words to that effect. Fuchs (free), Huth (£3m) and Okazaki (£7m) signed the day after he was sacked so must have been his deals. Kante (£5.6m) took another month to join.
