That Chris Martin.....

Good times to be a Derby fan, isn't it? A fair few on the Ipswich forum saying they like the look of Martin, which must be said through gritted teeth given he's a former Canary. Then you look at our bench and you see Darren Bent. Howzat for ambition?

Not too long ago, we used to be the kids peering into the shop window. Not anymore.

Two summers ago many people on here were saying that Martin had been brought in to be Sammon's back up, because Sammon was the better player.

Anyone care to own up?

Anyone still prefer Sammon?

Never preferred Sammon, but have to confess that after the first few games I thought Martin would never be better than a 1 in 5 striker at this level.

Glad to be being proved so comprehensively wrong.

I was about to write similar text. Simply put, we are spoiled.

Looks like we still don't have that 20 goal striker after all...30+ for Martin, Bent on the bench... just shows how far we've come.

I'm one of the smug ones who argued on here that he was exactly what we need and will be awesome. Lots were saying he was no good cos of what he DIDN'T do at Swindon.

Since making his move to DCFC permanent he's scored 43 goals in 82 games.

That's a better average than Kevin Hector, Dean Saunders et al, and probably most bar Steve Bloomer. Granted this is the Championship rather than the top flight, but damn those are impressive numbers for CM!

Of those 82 games he's probably chucked in about 2 sausage performances.

Definitely our most consistent performer.
