Lord_Ram
Derby confirm annual retained list. Derby County have confirmed their retained list following the conclusion of the 2013/14 season. Out-of-contract goalkeeper Adam Legzdins and midfield duo James Bailey and Ben Davies will not have their deals extended beyond the summer, Head Coach Steve McClaren has confirmed. Legzdins, 27, joined Derby in the summer of 2011 from Burton Albion and made 37 appearances, but failed to make a single outing this season due to the excellent form of first-choice goalkeeper Lee Grant. Bailey, 25, made two substitute appearances this season and made 64 outings in total after arriving from Crewe Alexandra in the summer of 2010 while 32-year-old Davies, who ended the season on loan at League 1 Sheffield United, made 82 appearances after signing in January 2011 from Notts County. It was announced earlier this month that Callum Ball, James O’Connor, Michael Hoganson, Valentin Gjokaj and Ross Atkins had already been informed that their futures lay elsewhere. One year options have been exercised on the contracts of Jamie Ward and John Eustace after playing key roles in the Rams’ third-placed finish. Discussions are taking place with out-of-contract full-back Lee Naylor regarding his future. Out of contract first-team players not offered new terms: Ben Davies, James Bailey, Adam Legzdins, Callum Ball, James O’Connor, Michael Hoganson, Valentin Gjokaj, Ross Atkins. First-team options taken up on existing contracts: Jamie Ward, John Eustace. First-team out of contract players and in discussions over new terms: Lee Naylor. First-team professional players under contract beyond the summer of 2014: Lee Grant, Craig Forsyth, Craig Bryson, Shaun Barker, Richard Keogh, Paul Coutts, Jeff Hendrick, Chris Martin, Jamie Ward, Johnny Russell, John Eustace, Mark O’Brien, Kieron Freeman, Conor Sammon, Will Hughes, Mason Bennett, Mats Morch, Jake Buxton, Simon Dawkins, Kelle Roos, Tom Naylor. First-team players’ loan spells expiring: Patrick Bamford, Andre Wisdom, George Thorne, Zak Whitbread. Derby County would like to thank all departing players for their services to the Club and wish them well for the future. Srg
Surprised on Eustace and Ward. Guess they don't want to upset apple cart.
Leicester Ram
Good opportunity for Eustace to go out on a high really, saves us bringing in a back-up DM. Valuable squad member.
Albert
Good opportunity for Eustace to go out on a high really, saves us bringing in a back-up DM. Valuable squad member. If we keep Hendrick, Hughes and Bryson, Coutts comes back to the full fitness and sign Thorne, we'd have one of the best midfields to ever play at this level, with a ridiculous amount of depth. These players have a chance to be part of something truly special.

CumbrianRam
Where will Coutts fit, CM, CDM or out wide? Doubt it will be out wide.
Ghost of Clough
I see him playing in all of those positions. He adds something different to the team that the others don't have. His crossing is better than anyone else and is the best corner taker currently at the club

Dimmu
Coutts should get a chance as a DM. About a month a we will see... He has all the attributes to do well there.
Hans
I really hope we just sign young players, say not over the age of 21, our squad has the experience in our centre backs, Bryson etc, I'd love to see some exciting loanees like we have this season. Steve always worked with the younger players and helping them evolve at Twente, it's a gift few managers have, managing to nurture young talent. I'd literally take any of Chelsea's younger players, Swift, Brown, Baker Loftus Cheek etc.
Stive Pesley
Let's not forget how good the Coutts/Brayford partnership was down the right. It helps that he's a wide midfielder who is playing in his natural position, not Wardy and Russell who both want to be CFs
jimbobram
Reaaally? The guys our most complete midfielder and our best set piece taker. where would you put him though our central midfield is one the of the best in the league and i don't fancy him as a winger especially with ward, Russell, Dawks etc
BEBA
Pleased with that, Eustace gives us excellent cover in midfield and its never a bad thing to have someone with that much championship experience around (especially in a team as young as ours), I wonder if he will stay on as a coach after this season, I think he has mentioned a desire to go into coaching when he retires and who better to learn from than McClaren? I'm also intrigued to see what happens with Coutts, he had some very good performances with us, particularly in his first season, and a pre-season working with the new coaching setup should be very interesting. What is the consensus of Ward around here then, I notice quite a few comments saying we should let him go? He isn't perfect but he is the most consistent winger we have for both goals and assists, and he is probably the best defensively as well, he may not last past 70 minutes these days, but for me that is where Mason Bennett can start getting some game time. I'm all for strengthening in the wide areas (a deadball specialist would be nice), but why pass up on someone who would cost us at least a million to replace? Albert
on the transfer list ?Why?What on Earth is with this forum turning on players when they are injured. I mean really, get a long term injury, may as well start writing your farewell as far as many on here are concerned from what I can tell. Coutts was an absolute standout in his first season with us, and many had him down as a leading contender for player of the season. He had an average start to last season, but ultimately he didn't get a chance to perform in the side under McClaren because he was injured. At the very least he's in with a shout for being cover (and damn good cover at that) in the midfield for next season. He can also play in a number of positions, which could be vital for next season. This is the same nonsense that Buxton faced. Didn't matter that he was doing well in pretty much all his matches, he had a poor match or two recovering from a serious injury, got injured again, and people wanted him gone because he was a "non-league" player. It's sickening. You'd think after the season we just had we'd lay off players like Coutts who through injury missed their chances to perform, particularly after how vital they were before. CumbrianRam
Wouldn't be surprised to see him loaned out for month at the start of the season, he is rusty and don't see him as a starter. Get some match fitness back and we will see.

Turning on players when they are injured ? Not sure what this means, if your look on the Shuan Barker thread you will see I am a big fan off him and can't wait for him to get back. I was never really a fan of Coutts on the wing without Brayford playing right back. I think the wingers we have now in Ward, Russell, Dawkins, are better than Coutts. Do you think he would get in central midfield, with the likes of Hendrick, Hughes, Bryson, Thorne (hopefully). No chance. Also, don't try and turn my two word post into a witch hunt against Coutts.
