Day
Fair enough, but San Marino and the like are full members of FIFA and UEFA like the FA, Spanish FA etc and they should all get the same opportunity. Of course they should get a chance.....in a pre qualifier, top seeds shouldn't need to play these games, just like you don't see Premiership/Championship teams enter the cups until later. Derbiean
Personally i'd put all the minnows in one group and give the top 2 a place in the tournaments, sure they won't ever do much but at least 2 of them will get to experience the big stage once in a while. AndyinLiverpool
How is this sort of thing helpful to the development of San Marino football? Are they an eternally chipper nation, who never get dispirited by the endless stream of tonkings? From Wikipedia.. San Marino, officially the Republic of San Marino and also known as the Most Serene Republic of San Marino........... ............The country's economy mainly relies on finance, industry, services and tourism. It is one of the wealthiest countries in the world in terms of GDP (per capita), with a figure comparable to the most developed European regions. San Marino is considered to have a highly stable economy, with one of the lowest unemployment rates in Europe, no national debt and a budget surplus. Might have something to do with their morale. blackNwhites
Does it mention the **** football team. Dunno. I remember reading that first paragraph the last time we played them. Just refreshed my memory, I like the 'serene' part of their nationality.

abertawe_ram
Must be a strange experience being a San Marino player, going into games thinking that a 3 or 4-0 defeat isn't a bad result. It was like watching Derby v Forest tonight, horribly one-sided
Alph
You'd think San Marino would just try to complete a few passes and beat a few men. C'mon, if you played against England wouldn't you just try to beat Wayne Rooney or beat Lampard or something. Try knocking it about for a bit. You can always knock it around the back 4 and go back to the keeper anyway. So what if you lose it? Better than putting 9 behind the ball when you get beat 4/5/6-0 anyway. They might even enjoy some possession v Azerbaijan etc. not as if they play teams like England all year around is it? Crazy. Glad they get thrashed playing like that. Anti-football. Shuff264
For once in ITVs ***** career of broadcasting football they said something right. The bottom 8 or so teams in Europe/world should play there own tournament, that way they can actually improve and maybe win some games. There is no point in then competing with teams that are 201 places higher than them in the rankings.
