They were the best combination we've had since the 70s. Goddard leaving was the beginning of the end of that short period where we thought we might win stuff.

  • Saunders and Goddard both better than Wanchope and Ravanelli

Off the top of my head, without a lot of thought...

Statistically maybe, but I based that on sheer entertainment value not on statistics etc.

if you based it on entertainment value, where you entertained by Bloomer?

If its stat based, then surely just google top scorer for derby?

Don't understand?

For me the top striker since I have been watching the rams has to be bobby Davison, he dragged derby through the worst times and his goals got us from division three to division one at a desperate time, the most skilful and natural goal scorer who did it at the top level for us was dean Saunders and I think over all for constant year on year reliability and part of our cherished championship teams it was king Kevin hector, all three of these players were reliable, avoided long term injury, made a many many appearances and enjoyed playing for derby county, not many strikers in the last twenty years can say that, out of the more recent teams I think Sturbridge and raziak stand out for natural goal scoring ability and to finish the list off I would go for Paul Goddard, I can't comment on Steve bloomer as I never saw him play and it was at a time when football was in its infancy and perhaps teams were not as strong or did not have as much ability as they did in future years.

In that order!!

Ignore Daveo, its nearly christmas and he may have to smile - always makes him bad tempered.

Steve Bloomer (ok, ok even mo55y didn't get to see him play, but 291 goals for Derby and 28 (in 23 games) for England........)

agreed. Saunders was far less effecfive when Goddard went and played the best football of his career at Derby

Jeez boycie, where u been, as per a couple of our most prominent posters, he probably caught up on the highlights of bloomer on rams player.

but where did we finish when he sassy centre forward? that's the only way room measure how good he was.

The top strikers that could have been:

Davor Suker - Weren't we close to signing him?

Roberto Baggio - Weren't we even closer to signing him?

Branko Strupar - Injury prevented greatness.

Esteban Fuertes - He ain't Italian!!

Emanuele Villa - Goal machine in Mexico.

Tonton Zola-Moukoko - Championship Manager Wonderkid.

...... Nathan Tyson?

Do I need to have seen them play live?

Of those I have seen play:-

Saunders

Davison

Wanchope

Biano

Sturridge

Of those I can only dream of seeing, or watching an old film

Bloomer

Hector

George

Swindlehurst

If by strikers we're talking pacy, fox in the box, poachers I'll go with

- Saunders

- Sturridge

- Davison

- Biano

- Robinson 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ph34r' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

But we're also including powerful, No 9 style, target men -

- Goddard

- Wanchope

- Rasiak

- Hulse

- Sammon 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ph34r' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Same 5 for me. Different order but who cares. Putting Bloomer in a league of his own as I didn't see him.

Id put Marco Gabbiadini, Kitson, Tommy Johnson, Ron Willems, all above the last 3, not that I have anything against Sammon, just that i think these were better.
