The morning after the night before… and what a night!
It was my first game since pre-Covid days and not a bad one to be at. I've read a lot about the recent atmosphere on here but it was something else, barely stopped all night from where we were in the South Stand. And most of the ground by the sounds of it.
Find it hard to fault anyone after that performance. My brief take on things…
Allsop – had little to do (apart from the first save which I've only just seen on the highlights as we missed the first couple of minutes!). Very calm and passing was excellent – both short and long when needed.
Davies – head on everything, experienced 'head' continuing to do the business.
Buchanan – thought he was superb too, particularly for a 1st senior game at centre back. If he can continue that sort of performance Stearman will struggle to get back in.
Byrne – brilliant, some lovely touches both in attack and defence.
Forsyth – looked like the Forsyth of old, marauding down the left. Beautiful bullet header. Bit unfortunate for the own goal I thought, Festy should've really stopped the cross.
Ebosele – please let us keep hold of him! Hull just couldn't handle him when he had the ball. Did the defensive side too (cross for the goal aside). For his goal – thought the chance had gone after his first touch but hit it so sweet into the side netting. Missed his somersault celebration as someone somersaulted over me from the row behind in the aftermath!
    Knight – everywhere as usual.
Bird and Bielik (B&B?) – put these together as they worked really well as a pair. Didn't feel like Bielik did a lot but every time he had the ball he looked effortlessly calm. Praying he can stay fit. Heart in the mouth when he went down towards the end. Thought it was his shoulder again but looked like a knock above the eye as he came off? Hopefully not too serious. Bird playing beyond his years.
Plange – held the ball up well, particularly for someone so young. Ball didn't quite fall for him but worked hard all night.
Lawrence – left the last word for Tommy. He's had a lot of stick on here and in other quarters, some of it arguably deserved. But think he just shaded the MOM from Ebosele for me. He worked soooo hard – in attack, midfield and defence. Multiple clearances in our own 18 yard box. Scored one from being in the right place at the right time and threaded the pass through for Festy's goal. Superb captain's performance.
Thanks to @admira who I met on here for inviting me along.

I want to see that printed somewhere on next seasons shirts and beyond. Back of the collar, inside the shirt under the neckline, on the sleeve.
Yes I said next season, fully aware of the current situation.
It's not club generated marketing to sell tickets, it's not a club generated ethos that's drawn criticism.
It's words the fans have used in response to performances on the pitch.
It's words the fans have used as they are proud of this team, proud of the team that plays in Pride Park.
Let's not just have it printed on the shirt, but plastered around Moor Farm, the changing rooms at Pride Park.
Make it visible and not forget why it's on the shirt.
All we can ever ask for is to give 100%, let's not allow the players to forget that either, it's not just a 21/22 situational inspiring song that's quickly forgotten.
    We'll fight 'til the end.

On the attendance, all clubs will have a significant minority of fans who for whatever reason cannot attend regularly. A few years ago I was a student in Lancaster so I couldn't afford to come down often to watch us play. Even when I moved to Leeds (so closer to home) I often found it difficult to make games for financial reasons. The fact is people aren't going to exchange heating or food for a football ticket and no-one should shame them for not doing so. Some people don't go all the time because they like to go with family and/or friends, and if they can't sit with their mate or family then they'd rather not attend. I'm all up for going on my own but I recognise many people see football as much a social activity as about the game.
Only west brom, sheffield united and forest down the road have a higher average than we do and that's largely because of our very low attendances in the first few games. The fact we're 4th in the division for average attendances despite everything is something we should all be proud of. It shows the depth of feeling in the community for the club.

In some ways its one of the best seasons since the days of Jim Smith.
No "we should be beating clubs like..., are we ready for the PL, we won't go up with Keogh" etc
No in-fighting, no anger towards players, no wrist slashers or happy clappers
Just pretty much everyone is like "feck it. We'll give it a go"
Besides the stress it makes you very proud of Derby fans, players, staff and Derby people. Which hasn't always been the case in much happier times.

Wind your neck in. Just because people cant always attend doesn't mean they havent contributed to help or bought tickets they know they cant use. Any figures for how many tickets sold v attendance? Could make you feel bad as to why I cant attend much this season but wont. Others will have similar reasons esp for a mid-week match

Let me give you an example of your so-called Commodore fan @jimtastic56.  My son went to the Birmingham game.  It was his sixth match this season. He lives in Brentwood, Essex, a round trip of roughly 400 miles.  He's 30 and a teacher in a primary school and he had an after school event that didn't finish until about 6pm and got home just before kick off - he starts work at about 8am after driving 30 miles round the M25 from his home to his school so he gets up at 6am every morning. He did watch it on TV.  The win really gave him a boost (as it did to us all).
Oh, and he's a season ticket holder as well - £550 in the coffers even though he knows he can't get to the ground very often but he wants to sit with his dad without his dad having to move.  We've had the same seats since PP opened. And, Gibson willing, we'll have the same seats next year too. And he has a shirt - new one every year.
I dare say that on Sunday there were a fair few who bought tickets thinking that it might be the last time they'll ever watch the Rams but who have been fans all/most of their lives even if, like my son, they can't come every match.  A 22,000 gate of vociferous, supportive fans was great for a midweek game on TV, so let's not get sniffy at 8k plus who were at home, no doubt boosting a Sky audience making it more likely that Sky will cover us again and give us more money.

Grimsby Town keeper James McKeown joined them in July 2011, he was given a testimonial game during pre season last summer against Rotherham.
He's having a testimonial year, going round with signed club merchandise to auction off at Q&A nights around the town.
You don't have to wait for 10 years is up.
Don't see why anyone could object to him making a few quid, he's had 3 ACL's, that's 3 seasons worth of appearance, win and other bonuses lost whilst probably not even in the top 5 earners at the club.
Yes it will still be obscene money compared to what us, or even the Grimsby keeper earns, but he's a player that most can probably relate to.
He's not showing off Gucci bags and customised cars on Instagram, there's no £1000 steaks with salt bae giving him a performance. Just a guy with a family, doing his job quietly and professionally.
Exactly the type of player you want playing for your club.
Would be criminal not to extend his contract for a year and reward him with a testimonial, it wouldn't be a contract just to turn up to training either, still more than capable of putting a shift in on the pitch.
Was only a few weeks ago we was gutted about losing Jagielka who's a lot closer to picking up his free bus pass than Forsyth.

22k last night may not seem a lot but is more than other clubs around us would get if they were in the same position or even a higher position including notts forest, lester, stoke, wolves, west brom and the list goes on.

Ramrob got a reaction from Jortat in Hull city (H) on Tuesday 8th February - matchday thread
