The thing I find sad through all this is where’s the noise around learning our lesson and really reversing the decline in our nhs , building it to something that is not hanging on by its finger nails every winter ,

I’m pro opening up on the 19th.
Think relaxing everything all in one go though is a mistake.
I wouldn’t want to be making the decisions right now, brown pants time for Boris.

Think you've proven my point to an extent. He has moments of genius but he lacks consistency & discipline. Being captain requires both of those attributes to improve & the hope is that this appointment will focus his mind - particularly with him playing for a last big contract probably elsewhere (he's 28 in Jan) & wanting to be part of a Welsh squad going to the World Cup next year.
Did see some promising signs from him back end of last season (during an atrocious run for the team in general) - scored 3 in our last 7, looked menacing in general & worked hard. Perhaps Rooney is able to get the best out of him. We will see.

I think Rooney has just recognised that Tom is a good player and we need to get more out of him. He hopes that by giving him the armband, it brings the best out of him on the pitch. He can't hide or get lost in games because he is the captain. He is forced to step up and perform to a high level week in week out. Let's hope it works.

I'm new to all this so haven't had the time to scroll through all the previous pages but I bet I'd agree with most of them. Sorry if this has been mentioned before, but are motorists getting lazier about acknowledging courtesy? It may be a legal requirement to let joining traffic gradually filter in, but when you indicate to the vehicle in the slip lane that you are giving way to them and they are safe to pull out, surely a raised hand is a polite and friendly gesture?
Also, younger people starting sentences with the word 'So' when they reply to a question. Where on earth did that come from?

I wasn't, Olly! It was either on the radio or it could have been from the diaries of Kenneth Williams which I have just started to read!  Kudos to your sister!

Just yesterday I read something I really liked, but I can't remember where but it's pertinent to this thread...
'Every saint has a past and every sinner a future.'  I'm not calling Captain Tom a sinner, but we've all done stupid things that come back to haunt us at about 3am. We can't change what we did in the past but we can make up for it in the future. Good luck, Tom! I'm so happy that so many on this thread are behind you.

I agree CKR would have a decent choice but I don’t really see that his admirable views and comments about racism should be a factor. We need a leader out there on the pitch. It remains to be seen if Tom proves to be that person but I’m prepared to give him a chance.

Its a chance for him to step up. Let's get behind this one. Wouldn't be most peoples first choice but can't keep punishing him forever for the joiners. Hope he steps up and matures into the role

Also hoping that Curtis is staying - he’ll be such a great mentor to Tom if so

I was about to say the same, RoyMac5. I've known teachers who were as hot as mustard in front of a class but were so nervous if asked to take a school assembly if all the staff were going to be present. I remember the first school assembly I was asked to do. I was very confident in my classroom, but I practised that assembly for about 3 nights in front of the bedroom mirror, worried about it the night before and felt sick on the morning. I hope that Wayne grows into the role like I had to or maybe it's something he will never feel at ease with. I can't imagine that his speeches are exactly eloquent and impassioned behind the scenes either, but I can hope!!?

Interesting move & I suspect was done with his contract situation in mind.
To do well this season, we need Tom to unlock that undoubted potential & have a stand out year in goals & assists. I get the sense with him that he's often quite peripheral - certainly in terms of what we see from him on the park. In theory then, making him the leader of the team & giving him a key role leaves no doubt what we expect from him. Guessing Rooney will also have linked it to Lawrence's omission from the Welsh squad for the Euros & telling him its a shop window for a really good move next season.
I'd be very surprised if Tom stays with us beyond his contract expiring but there is sometimes a danger with players in their last year going through the motions, especially if they're unlikely to sign an extension. Could be a wise call from Rooney & reality is we know that its Kazim, Curtis & Shinnie who are the real 'soul' of the team & they're likely to know that i.e. providing the rationale was explained properly, we could have the best of both worlds.

Does the absence of strikers and the armband given to Tom suggest he will be playing more centrally this season? Presumably in the 10?
Good luck to him. I've lots of mates who have made daft mistakes in their early 20s and matured in their later 20s and with a bit of focus, are now doing well for themselves. Sometimes a baby, a missus or a new job can be that spark needed. Fingers crossed.

All negatives, and nobody is saying that there are no negatives.
The positive, less chance of outbreaks being caused by unvaccinated healthcare staff bringing the disease to a centre for vulnerable people.
I'm not saying it's not concerning - it is. But I certainly see the reasoning behind it. It depends if you put personal liberty ahead of the safety of the wider population. I personally don't, and from a risk balancing perspective I feel comfortable that a vaccination programme in healthcare settings is the lower risk option.

I’ve been waiting since last April (first lockdown) for a large & dodgy mole to be removed.

What the doctor doesn’t know, however, is that a couple of weeks after he told me it'd have to come off, I caught my ring on it in the shower and pulled it off. Nothing left. Loads of blood but it’s never come back?

My sympathies with that. I've had it too and it was painful! ?. My partner has a blocked tear duct that has been sore and weeping for the last 3 months and has been told it could be up to a year before he gets a hospital appointment to unblock it. In fairness, it's bad some days and not quite so bad on others. At the moment we get by with Optrex! Such a simple and quick procedure and yet we have to wait so long. We understand why but it is still frustrating.

The government tells us to be sensible, considerate and responsible in the wearing of masks. There was the 'fan' with the flare up his nether regions, the reckless who invaded the stadium, those who injured 19 police, and the scum who posted vile messages to our brave boys not including those who booed the oppositions national anthem. I really believe that the vast majority of people are good but I wonder just how many people there are out there who lack kindness, responsibility, sense, consideration and compassion and will put the well being of others at risk because they just don't care.

Had the opportunity to grab a second vaccine dose a few weeks early.. I know a few people doing the same.
Feels like the best thing to do right now with cases still rising.
Will be interesting to see what the impact was on the semi and final to cases... Data seemed to show that case growth was slowing.
Its really interesting looking at what Australia are doing right now.. Due to terrible vaccine supply and banning of AZ vaccine for under 60s they've barely got anyone protected. NSW looking like they're going to go in to full lockdown again..
No end in site for them if they carry on down this road.
To manage the first half of the pandemic so well and to be failing hard on the second half...
