If Knight is absent Hourihane and Bird is not a viable combo

We don’t have the right blend of players for the game Warne is telling them to play

If he goes in it's a penalty.     He can' t get in front with two centre halves and a goalie.  Nothing he can do there but pass on to the defenders who certainly didn't do their job to my eyes.

That is a long stretch based on your minds inner machinations!
He's a different player to the next player - are all players the same, able to play the same, react the same, offer the same?

Sorry to disagree with you , but I think the problems started with Smith drifting into c/mid and not helping Curtis. The players and Warne are getting to know each other now and the “New manager bounce “has come to an end. Things are getting gradually worse and won’t improve till Warne brings his own players in. Things will not fall back into place so easy.

You say Hourihane didn't deserve hooking but he wasn't involved in the game at all. He has been exempt from substitution in many previous games where his contribution has been lacking.
I think Hourihane plays well further forward but offers little in protection of the defence.
As long as Warne is setting us up this way, Hourihane will struggle.
I'd prefer it if Warne went back to playing to his strengths  rather than his weaknesses. But I could say that about multiple players the way we are set up at the moment.

Slightly rogue XI to shake things up:

                                      Wildsmith
                       Chester    Cashin     Forsyth
        Knight                                                         Roberts
                      Smith           Bird       Hourihane
                              McGoldrick  Dobbin

Warne's preferred 5 at the back, but attacking wing-backs. We've rarely dominated in midfield in the second half of this season so maybe a 3 would help. Dobbin and Didzy with free roles to drift as neither are traditional 'play off the shoulder of the last man' strikers?

To press or not to press? We can win either way. What damages us is a disorganised half press - it’s hard work and needs a bad defensive or keeper error for it to do you any good at all. And many teams in this league counter our press by going long and keeping possession by muscling our youngsters off the ball

Good spot, one that's crystal clear from the highlights and PW and the coaching team would have had a perfect view of it.
I think the people complaining about Warne's timing of the subs need to have a look at this clip. I've seen people call the subs embarrassing and disrespectful in here - I'd argue Hourihane's effort is both of those. I can take poor passing and rubbish corners all game but giving up is unacceptable. He could have stopped that goal.
The only thing PW got wrong was not dragging him straight away.

And left a huge gap at his near post for the 2nd. Compare his positioning for the excellent near post save in the 2nd half. I rate him, at this level, but his performance was off, as was others in the first half.

It’s true he might have been too far forward for the first but debatable and it was a wonder strike ( which didn’t go in). The second was very well taken by Gomes and not a keeper error imo.

On the second goal, it’s worth watching Fozzie’s Olympian sprint from the half way line (after which his missed tackle as he tried to avoid conceding a penalty was unfortunate rather than negligent). Compare it to Hourihane’s effort - The flying Fozzie arrives and Hourihane stops running, despite then still being in the action.  He’s becoming an expensive midfielder Hourihane, in terms of our goals conceded. Warne should have considered a few games ago what the team looks like without him imo

Too many unnecessary changes in the starting line up today. If Didz and Knight are fit you play them every time. And you play two of Dobbin, Barks and NML. Not sure why Roberts doesn’t get more games. This is not the time of season to pick Springett and Davies just to give them a game. If anyone needs resting it’s Hourihane. Warne messed up today.

Bless you, Craig Forsyth and thank you for everything you have done for our club. Such a modest, unassuming player. It would be great if he scored this afternoon!

McGoldrick must start, that’s a no brainer. Collins has been poor very recently.
Knight would always be in my team - his energy is sensational.
Disappointed in this line up. Let’s hope I’m wrong come 5pm.

Yes. If Sibley doesn’t start and then we don’t score, Warne has egg on his face.
Will be interesting to see whether he thinks Bird is ready to start. In the past he’s been conservative when bringing players back from injury.

I’d think both Knight and McGoldrick will start, their niggles having obediently dissolved in line with PW’s predictions. I hope Curtis might as well. The most running he’d have to do would be to and from their box for set pieces. If he and Fozzie play it might be a nervy 1-0

Not being funny, but it's possible that Barnsley might not be in the play-offs, could be Plymouth if the Tykes keep up their form and pinch 2nd spot.

I think McGoldrick for all his talents might be a difficult guy to play alongside.

Loved Sibley’s post match interview where he told everyone AM is where he wants to play. Sure Warne was pleased to hear that
Warne on the other hand managed to make Sibleys two excellent goals about Warne: Haha I told sibbo I wish he’d scored another because if he had I’d have been manager of the month.  More careless flippancy from Warne in his interviews - I wish he didn’t try so hard to be cute and quirky.
