We consistently won? People always say you just need to get out of League 1, by hook or by crook, and worry about the rest later. Warne got us promoted playing pragmatic football and achieved the primary aim of the club which is to get us back in the Championship. Given the transfer restrictions and myriad injuries, there's more than enough mitigating factors to wonder if many of these stylistic choices were forced by circumstance?
Without these restrictions, plus Warne's own comments about ideal style of play, and the necessity to play better football due to heightened competition- the football we see next season should be better. The minimum Warne has earned is for people, especially the dissenters, to just wait and see- he proved a lot of people wrong after Stevenage (A), he's merited the chance to continue to do so.

It’d be churlish not to give Warne some credit, given that we’ve been promoted. But we had a strong squad relative to the rest - especially second half of the season - and we were consistently inconsistent throughout. I would love it to be better under PW next season but tbh that would be a (pleasant) surprise.

I would imagine fans on say the Fleetwood or Carlisle forums read this, point to our first team roster last season, and have a good giggle

If you put this into google translate and ask for BS ——-> English you get
“well obviously my agent works 24/7 during transfer windows and he can get me any time, wherever I am. But he’s trying to line something up with a club that’s got more cash than you guys so give me a break buddy and let me have a couple of weeks without this constant stream of text messages “

I think under DC we will be run so as to minimise losses. And to the extent there are losses I think they’ll be funded by equity or similar, I don’t think DC will want the club amassing debt.

If we do sign ebou- and I hope we do even if he never scores another goal in his life - I hope the announcement will make it very clear where his belongings are.

It’s just that it’s embarrassing to be reading about the heroics of 40 year old amateur footballers when there’s a champions league final to be watched

kevinhectoring reacted to Rample in Wage budget
1. I was going to put this in finance, but its nowhere near that level of discussion and is specific to wages so I gave it its own thread.
2. Its only a bit of speculation/fun, and although the numbers are based on realistic sounding internet figures I haven't meticulously studied each clubs accounts/chatted with the owners, so the contrarian(s) who like to frequently tear posts apart need not bother.
I've been looking at what clubs reportedly spend on wages compared to their attendances, and if these tell us anything about our likely wage bill increase for next season.
Same stats used for those clubs put us at around £160k per week once departing players are removed (Sibley and Collins still included), meaning we can expect to spend another £120-220k per week on wages. That seems massive.

You make it sound as if Kirchner was despatched to derby by a presidential task force.
Have you had business dealings with Russians, or Chinese? They can be quite challenging - Indonesians too. Some Middle Eastern gents can be a handful, as many in the horse racing world would tell you. Ironically Quantuma seemed to think the most tricky they dealt with was someone closer to home who sells lots of tracksuits

Understand your perspective.
I would really like to see us in the PL in my lifetime and the chances of that occurring with DC (our hero) are fairly remote. So I’d accept the risks associated with change of ownership if the change greatly improves the likelihood of promotion.
I’d add that - despite Boehly’s antics at Chelsea - the risk of new ownership would be modest if the buyer were the owner of a major US sports franchise. I would love to think DC is trying to get his wares in front of some of those owners. There is a lot of competition for their patronage and sadly clubs in the south have more appeal.

Can’t we have a separate ‘glory days’ thread ? You lot could recount tales of footie derring do to your hearts’ content and everyone else would be able to decide whether to share the glorious nostalgia

Imo it’s different to this. People now investing in championship clubs aren’t so much investing in the current value of the club and its squad. They are investing in the possibility of becoming a club that’s in the PL. Our ground, gate, history and standing as a club is a big positive much more so than the club’s current squad, academy-player-potential, current manager etc.
Some Americans will see it mainly as a roll of the dice as to whether they can find that magic combination of squad and manager. Agree to buy us now - with our meagre squad - and the possible returns if we make the PL in 4 years are stunning
Now is the time DC should be looking to sell the club

Yep. And if we want to compete at a higher level then now is the right time to find investment, whilst we still have things to offer that other Championship or League 1 clubs don't. Memories aren't necessarily long in football - see the Lionel Pickering thread for our own fans remembering ability. So we need to capitalise on who we are and how we might compete before investors look for another Wrexham. Chesterfield maybe?! #COYR
