The players aren't stupid. They know we can't start a season like this,

Also the players on trial certainly need to hear this.

I would not suggest the players are stupid. What I am suggesting is that a smart manager can do a great deal to motivate players, however clever, even if the odds are stacked against them

Why bother playing a 'blame game'? Perhaps he's making the point that he needs players to put out on the pitch? Some signings!

Afterall it wasn't long after his comments about the embargo and efl that we got some movement from the efl.

The players hear what he is saying in the media. They need to hear him say: ‘sure there are challenges. But we have some fabulously talented youngsters as well as highly experienced players in the squad. And at our best we’ll be a match for absolutely anyone in this league.’

And the players need to get that message direct from him as well. If the players hear him complaining about the squad, their heads are in completely the wrong place from the first minute of the first game. Half the manager’s job is about motivating the players and we need to see him doing that.

completely get it if he wants to complain to Mel and Pearce about where we are. But those are conversations behind closed doors

if the club can't pay it's debts then it goes into administration

If the club can’t pay its debts it (once more) asks Mel to pay them. If Mel does not pay them, and if he doesn’t sell to someone who will, we maybe go into administration. I think we have more immediate things to worry about than administration

Why would Rooney resign? He kinda has said No.1 previously.

To explain my post: Rooney is revving up the blame game (“I don’t have a squad, what can I do?”) to protect his brand and enhance his future career as a manager.

What I’m saying  is, he’d do himself more credit if he simply said: ‘I’m in the middle of a poo storm. But you know what, I’m focused on one thing, getting the best out of the players on the pitch. “  What the silly chap doesn’t realise is: saying that, and acting it out, is how he best protects his brand. It’s also how he gets the best out of the players. Anything else is self interested treachery that damages our club.

I’m no fan of Rooney, far from. But I can’t understand the logic in those saying he should do the honourable thing and walk away. With the absolute shambles that we are, we wouldn’t be able to appoint anyone anyway. We’re lucky he hasn’t walked away. I doubt anyone would want this job. It’s nigh on impossible. We’re a disgrace of a club right now. Rooney is also a big carrot for any prospective owners. I don’t think he is up to the job, but I don’t think many could have us competitive with the squad we currently have. Tough times ahead.

Rooney should do one of two things:

    1. Tell the world he is lucky to be managing our club and that he is determined to get the best out of our squad whatever its weaknesses

    2 resign

No manager would be able to do a job with a squad so bare.

A good manager ‘does a job’ by getting the best out of a group of players, however able they may be. Looking forward to seeing how Rooney does this time round. IMHO he did not get the best out of last year’s squad. But in common with a number of our promising youngsters, he has more experience this time out. Fingers crossed

I strongly disagree. I think we were all optimistic about our situation 12 months ago. We had signed the likes of Jozwiak and Ibe. The lack of a striker was disconcerting, but we still had our top goalscorer - Waghorn - contracted to the club. Mike Te Wierik and Matt Clarke were signed up. David Marshall and Nathan Byrne too. Also, at that point, we had just finished 10th in the league thanks to some outstanding performances from Louie Sibley towards the back end of the season. It was like the second coming of Giles Barnes.

It didn't go anything like we suspected. Jozwiak didn't make nearly the impact we thought he would, Ibe barely touched the field. MTW was awful from the get go. Marshall started very well but later got bogged down with the tripe infront of him. Rooney decided to stop moving and play manager. The best signing we made, ironically, was the one that no one wanted - Kazim-Richards. We barely stayed in the division.

This season we have roughly 2 weeks until the season starts, no centre backs on the books. The embargo means we are really able to sign players no one else wants, at this level, unless Rooney can pull in some favours with loan moves. We currently have only one player who scored more than 5 goals in the team going into the season. By all accounts, we are about in as bad of a situation as you can possibly get, plus we still don't know if we will receive a point deduction this season and won't until the accounts and P&S are posted. I'd imagine as we are dragging it out that all roads lead to yes, but who knows. We would be able to get rid of the bloody embargo if we could get our affairs in order - and they WERE in order.

All that being said: we have definitely quashed expectation. We were one of the favourites for a promotion run last season. Now, we're the 4th from bottom favourites for promotion - with no option to bet on our relegation because of the potential point deduction we may face. We are effectively posted as the 4th worst team in the division from the off. I think that does help and ultimately it could lead to some teams taking their eye off the ball early doors against us - perhaps resting a few players as we're seen as an easy 3 points. We've not had that luxury too often. Well, aside from Swansea, who still dicked us with their second string last season.

The odds for our promotion are skewed by a possible points deduction and a load of bad press. Fact is we’ve escaped being bought by Alonso, we’ve had a fabulous result from the efl (so far) and our youngsters (sibley, bird, Watson, Buchanan etc) are a year older. Plus we’ll land some good old heads. That combination of experience and youth can be powerful. We’re on the way up

all quiet because there are no prospective buyers.

Surely there ARE prospective buyers. The problem is MM is saying, the stadium will be full all of next season. And the buyers are not so sure ...

Siege mentality, we will be fine.?

Some of that, quite possibly. And also, we might just have the perfect combination of youthful talent, and experience. My only hope is that the youngsters are played in position. And that we’re positive not reactive in our set up. No chance of relegation if it all goes our way, even if we get a points deduction

It's all moot anyway as I don't believe there is any corporation tax to pay when it is an intra-group transfer.

Yes. Unless the lenders to the stadium co required their special purpose borrower to stay out of the tax group   Which they would have done if they had thought about it

Derby respond by calling the overarching £60m quoted a "worst case scenario" figure -

From this club statement, doesn’t sound like this is PAYE. And if it was, other clubs would be in the same boat. Sound more like a dispute about historical returns

  12. 5 hours ago, Charlotte Ram said:

HMRC has nothing to do with accounts submission, you fill in a company tax return every year to show what you owe for corporation tax which given the well publicised losses will be zero.

Regarding PAYE/NI and VAT to HMRC those submissions are made monthly for PAYE and quarterly for VAT, if you do not submit them you will have a tax inspector knocking on the front door with more powers than the police& MI5, so they will have been submitted and  payment plans agreed, if you miss an instalment they would cancel the agreement and issue winding up orders. FWIW there is no way the club owes £20 million, HMRC would never have let outstanding payments balloon to that amount without legal action/seizure of assets.

Could it be the gain on the stadium?

    am I close? ?

Loved Rioch’s left foot but some others would beat him into the top 5 imho. Charlie George at his best of course ... but he had many disappointing games.

18th August so we would have about 2 weeks left of the window

Yes delivery date is after season starts and before window closes. @Charlotte RamI think pointed out that we might wait for the season to start before ‘agreeing’ our accounts with the EFL. That may be the safest option for us

But it makes a Rooney’s job very difficult in terms of getting a squad together

Mengi has to be one of them; we need pace at the back.

And wages can't be a particular problem as we can't pay more than £600k/season for any player.

Menghi has to be one of them. He’s improving rapidly, athletic, the least likely to get injured and has more talent than anyone else on the list

I guess we’ll see when the final accounts for the year in question if the sale proceeds caused us to make a profit.

In any event, corporation tax won’t have been accrued yet if the accounts/tax returns haven’t been submitted. So, the HMRC debt can’t be to do with the stadium sale (I believe).

Failing to finalise accounts is one thing. Failing to file a tax return is another. I’d guess they have done the latter albeit in the knowledge that it may need to be revised
