Have a horrible feeling Brighton put a bid in extremely late on which is just to good to turn down and we bring no one in.

Can't see us going for that.

Surely we would've given them a deadline for making a bid.

If this is a genuine opinion Id question whether you actually watch us play.

I cant think of many who are less 'half-arsed' than Collins.

His major problem is that he doesn't get many chances, mainly because he is never in the right place at the right time, and this is usually due to the fact he is tearing round the pitch trying to win the ball and consequently is very rarely in the box when the ball gets delievered.

Its something even Paul Warne alluded to in one of his interviews. Something along the lines of 'if we could get Collo to spend more time standing between the posts we think he'd score a hatful of goals'.

Agreed, i don't think Collins' issue is workrate but he just seems to drop a 5/6 out of 10 far too often and with a poor scoring record in tow.

Think for a team thats not looking for promotion he could do a job and even be respected as the figurehead i.e Shrewsbury, but unfortunately we need better so a move away seems the best result for all parties.

  3. From a fan point of view signing JCH on deadline day for a £1m is very exciting. Plus whether or not he fits Warne’s system he is the best striker in the league so can’t harm to have him up top.

But from a boring point of view I just can’t see us dropping that much money on a 29 year old. It’s too much of a risk and not one DC seems likely to encourage.

A business contact of mine in Sheffield says Derby are interested in Malik Wilks from Wednesday. Thought he was at Hull City?!

Think we were linked to him in Jan and I believe he went Weds instead. God knows how good he is.

In the latest Derby Telegraph article Warne has said there is a player he's been trying to sign this summer who has essentially been holding out for a Championship move, which as of yet, has not materialised.

Then if it gets to the end of the window and he's not signed anywhere. Then we'll try and get him.

So whoever it is, is currently a free agent.

    Any guesses?

Not necessarily a free transfer from them comments.

No idea who the player is though, if it’s someone who’s been linked maybe it’s Lapado.

    Isn’t this half the problem?

A bunch of players who most deem not good enough to be in the starting 11, taking up most of our wage budget. Hourihane has obvious ability but is probably our highest paid player - a wage that would be pretty handy for a rebuild of the football club.

Does nobody in the Championship or League 1 want to take him off our hands?

  7. Big few days ahead.

Our only hope is that the drama of the deadline day will come in to force and as the date edges nearer we may be able to make the 3/4 gun signings for a price that we can accommodate.

I expect we'll get at least 3 new bodies in, but i wouldn't say i'm confident that they'll be good enough to move us forward.

  8. Talking about what Clough and Jim Smith is pointless to an extent because football has changed since both were at the helm.

Nowadays fans aren't patient, don't want to wait 4 years to see if a project does or does not come to fruition. Like it or not, the norm is for clubs to recycle managers every 2 years.

Everyone has an opinion on Warne and as the poll shows more people are on his side than not. If he fails to get us up this year then he'll be judged on performances throughout the season, player development, transfer acumen and other factors i'm sure.

I'm struggling to see how fans are happy to take 4 years to get promoted. Next year without restrictions is a must, but i can already see it now, DC will keep a tight grip on the purse strings and people will be defending our lack of killer instinct in the transfer market and on the pitch by saying we should be grateful because we nearly died.

Hopefully my Mystic Meg impression is incorrect and DC will back us enough to get us out of the league. But if this season is going to plan then i'm personally concerned.

We’re only three points off top and there are 42 games to improve on that.

Our finances are tight while we are under the business plan.

Surely the time when Clowes will be looking to re-assess is when we are financially free and have no one to answer to?

    So next season then…

This isn’t me actively calling for him to sell, but just can’t be bothered to be in league 1 for 4/5 seasons and have everyone be like ‘we’re grateful just to have a club’.

Feel like there’s a bit of mystery this season as to whether it’s the business plan or DC that’s keeping us on a leash.

    Are our circumstances usual, though?

    Point taken.

But without being harsh surely if DC is a Derby man through and through he’ll look to sell if he can’t finance us to be at the right end of the table?

  11. The biggest lesson here is don’t hand out a 4 year contract.

I appreciate at the time Warne was in demand so Clowes went balls deep to ensure we got our man. But if things don’t take a turn for the better then either he’s paying up big time and admitting a mistake. Or he sticks with Warne and half the fan base continue to be toxic.

I still think with 3/4 good signings we’re back in contention but our dealings in the market don’t give me confidence that we’ll get the job done.

    Oh dear .

Lets have one after every game

The point is I bet a few people were caught between two options. We’re off the back of a win so maybe that’s bought him some slack. Lose against posh and Bolton and irrespective that they’re good teams I bet some people’s opinions would change.

Plus giving him up Christmas is hardly Paul Warne til I die.
