Malty got a reaction from May Contain Nuts in Paul Warne appointed as Head Coach
You’re right, we have had rotten luck with referees decision and todays against sheff wed is another example. Plus we’ve suffered with inexperienced players, such as Harvey White.
But we’ve also suffered from players playing out of position. Cashin (who was superb for most so the season) at times looks like he’s playing left back and was caught out a few times for pace. Knight is wasted at wing back. He does the job very well but really shouldn’t be playing there. Sibley isn’t fed the ball enough and is subbed off when he would be most effective when opposing players are tired. Dobbin was unplayable for a couple of weeks and Warne put him on the bench.
Tactically we seem overly kean on playing long diagonal balls, despite bird and hourihane being perfectly good ball playing midfielders. Warne just wants to by-pass them.
Warne bemoans our ineffectiveness from free kicks and corners … but what has he done about it? There is no inventiveness, it seems to be just hoofing the ball into the box and hoping. As is so often the case our corners seem to be simply an opportunity for the opposition to counter-attack. I’m more worried that we’ll conceded than score.
I really, really want us to be successful next season and I’m sure with his players we will improve our position in the league.
I genuinely fear that we will be watching more long ball stuff and have players that “chase down everything”, which is great, but it might be that we sacrifice skill for stamina and end up watching worse football.

Malty reacted to Jayram in Paul Warne appointed as Head Coach
Think you’re right. I don’t rate Warne’s football philosophy; he strikes me as a pound shop Rowett and I’m concerned about the kind of players he’s going to sign, but as he’s here for the duration it’s a case of having to suck it and see and get behind the team as always.

Malty reacted to sage in Craig Forsyth - served 10 years
I do wish the 2 knoobheads who used to sit in front of me belittling Forsyth all game had stayed on another season. It would have killed them to see him play so well and celebrate 10 years at the club as captain.

(Murderers have served less ?)
Anyhow, well done to a magnificent servant to the club, a great ambassador and a decent player. Thank you.

Malty reacted to Dordogne-Ram in Alliterative eleven
Several times, most memorably v. Liverpool at home on 15/10/57. Rams won 2-1 with goals from Dennis Woodhead and wee George Darwin, attendance 22,631, watched from the boys pen.
Defending the Normanton End, Martin McDonnell and Liverpool legend Billy Liddell , both very hard courageous players, went for a 50/50 tackle and ended up being injured. We were used to seeing ex - paratrooper McDonnell doing acrobatics when getting up from tackles, but not on this occasion!
Both players spent the remainder of the match holding each other up on the wing - no substitutes then!
Others have mentioned both Reg Ryan and (South African) Alf Ackerman who I saw play regularly. And who can forget seeing George Darwin skipping across the BBG mud wrong footing opponents repeatedly with delightful back heels.....!
Thanks @Maltyfor triggering a few memories, even if some were off topic!

Malty got a reaction from ramit in Alliterative eleven
Great effort guys. Love the fact that we got to a team. In fairness one that will give our current 11 a good game.
Although Asanovic and any other ten would be a good team!!

Malty got a reaction from ramit in Alliterative eleven
My son and I were playing a game to come up with footballers who have the same first letter in their first name and surname. Of course, I thought of Aljosa Asanivoc.
I wondered if it was possible to have a full eleven of rams players past and present that were all alliterative.
the first three i thought of were:
Asanovic
Inigo Idiakez
Paul Parker
Who can name a few more or even a full team?
