How have the club even managed to to play 50 matches since he turned 14? It was only last week!

Maybe that's why I remain uncertain about Warne. I was hoping it was at his instigation. I'll go look for alternative straws 😕

The loan move Thompson demanded because Warne didn't trust him, instead opting to give game time to White?

I really liked his interview. Very focussed and succinct. A very good performance too and I think the lad has a decent future ahead of him. While I'm uncertain that Warne is great with younger players, the loan move to guarantee the lad competitive football looks a shrewd move now.

Our best midfield I watched last season was an axis of smith knight Thompson and Sibley vs WBA ( they were a championship club though) they ran them ragged

This is sadly likely true. Ideal would be Bird comes back to fitness and plays with Thompson and whoever is coming in and we can completely drop the old, immobile, slow turnstile of a midfield.

He is certainly the ready made replacement for Knight. If and when we get a new midfielder though it will be Thompson that gets dropped.

I’m a secret fan of Thommo. Ever since that legendary turn leading to Plange’s goal against Fulham. I wonder if he’s the hidden gem amongst the other youth players that have had varying degrees of success? Bird, knight, sibley, cashin all been good … perhaps Thommo is the chosen one though? With his height and industry he reminds me of that ex Liverpool player David Thompson. Needs a run in the team and a manager to back him. But perhaps the answer was in front of us all this time.
Liam Thompson … the second coming?

1Wildsmith- 6.5. Couple of crucial saves. Decent performance.
35Nelson-6. Best game so far. Still doesn’t look like a ball playing CB but the basics of kicking and heading were on display. Looked better in a back 4.
5Bradley-6. Cameo. Adds a threat to set pieces.
34Rooney-7. Excellent performance. Did all that was expected and more. Hopefully a run in the team will further develop him and he should be a natural Cashin replacement.
14Washington-6.5. Got around the pitch well, seems to be on sane wavelength as Waggy. Ran out of gas and rightfully replaced.
6Cashin-6.5. More like the Cashin we know. Another who looked happier in a 4. Possibility of this being his last home game for us.
12Smith-5. Just not working for him atm in our midfield. Energy is great but product is below expected levels.
23Waghorn-7.5. Loved seeing Waggy charging around and driving forward. An absolute steal of a signing, 2 goals and an assist so far. Should have had a penalty too.
4Hourihane-6. Great tackle to start the move for the goal. Still feel he plods around waiting for the next free kick or corner for him to take. Expect more from a Derby captain.
3Forsyth-6.5. The usual steady and dependable performance from Fozzy. Never gets flustered and is a calming influence.
11Méndez-Laing-6.5. Outstanding first half, quieter second. Think everyone could see how happy he was back out wide. Another who ran out of steam but a much improved performance.
    20Elder-6. Come on, was steady.
9Collins-6. Fresh legs up top. Helped see game out. May have to get used to the bench life if Wash and Waggy continue their broship.
16Thompson-8. MOTM. Never thought I’d write that. Excellent performance and without doubt his best in a Rams shirt. Not sure what he’s changed this preseason but is my first name in Saturdays team sheet.
17Sibley-6. Great to see Sibs back out there. Feels like this season is make or break for him. Like to see him in the Didzy role moving forward. Didn’t even pick up the standard Louie Sibley yellow card.

Warne-7. Listened to the fans and changed the formation. Everyone in the stadium seemed to be happy with this. Subs were timed well abs we managed the game out well. Needs to use this and take it into Peterborough on Saturday. I will be making my first trip there since 93’, a losing effort thanks to a Ken Charlery goal. 😩

1Wildsmith 7 two key saves to prevent the equaliser
35Nelson 6 a poor defensive  header that almost let Fleetwood in.
5Bradley 6 A late show to see the game out
34Rooney 7.5 Several moments of class - where has he been?
14Washington 6 Workmanlike and assisted the goal
6Cashin 7 One key switch off but a good performance otherwise
    12Smith 6 Some stray passes
23Waghorn 7.5 MotM Took the goal well & involved in all the threat that Derby created
4Hourihane 7 Busy and flow of passes
3Forsyth 6.5 Strong defence and attacking outlet
11Méndez-Laing 7 Speed and power down the right; the odd misplaced attacking pass
20Elder 6 Hides his light well under a bushel
    9Collins 6 Late show
16Thompson 6.5 Energy and movement around the pitch
17Sibley 6 Will need a run of games to get going again
An improved performance with a more sensible shape; Derby’s cause not helped by a poor ref who missed a blatant penalty on Waghorn. Fleetwood could’ve scored but for the woodwork twice. Signings needed and Cashin’s last home game probably.

My personal opinion is not to criticise clowes.
Hes the reason we have a club. Hes running it sustainably so we dont have this threat again.
Sure the decisions hes made may not pay off but thats normal in life and business.

Warne got relegated with Rotherham and then promoted. So he’s gone from failure to success in the past.
He’s inherited a squad with no depth, a threadbare team and a dreadful youth team.

They needed  a total rebuild and it will take time.
I don’t like his tactics at home. He hasn’t proven to me that he has any kind of coherent plan B, home or  away.
However, I don’t want him out. I want us to give him time to sort it out and that could be at least a year from now. But if that’s what it needs it is what it is.
I don’t think anyone out there would do the job better.
Unfortunately we are saddled with him. So we just have to make the most of it and try and cheer the team on as much as we can.

Good summary. I said a few times last season I could see what Warne wanted the team to do, I felt confident he was bringing the players in the play that way during the summer, but the reality seems very different in that we currently aren’t able to play the intended way with any sign of success. Eric Steele summed it up earlier when he said Warne just needs to get back to basics and winning games in the short term then continue working on his seemingly preferred method in time. Saw another poster on here suggest the 3 at the back for away games and 4 at the back at home which makes some sense too.

I think the problem with Warneball is that we don't seem to be able to play it.
My understanding of the manager's tactics is -
Get the ball forward quickly and attack with aggression at pace but with the extra centre back providing a bit of a shield for when we lose the ball.
Use the wingbacks for width and get early crosses into the box, with two strikers and at least one midfielder trying to get on the end of them.
Press high, hard and as a team to force errors and get possession high up the pitch. The extra defender again provides cover for when the press is broken.
Most free kicks and corners driven into the box, where our well drilled players make the most of the opportunities.
Train hard to give our players superior fitness.
Have a strongly supportive team ethic so players do not fear making mistakes and bust a gut to cover for each other.

To me, that all makes sense. The problems are that we aren't doing very much of it and too many of the new recruits don't appear suited to it.
Someone said we're fickle as fans. No we're not, we're just fans. Like all fans we want results, good football (whatever you define that as) and to feel the team are giving their all. Ideally a manager gives you all three, but most fans will remain supportive if any two of those are achieved. Eventually every fan will turn anti if none are achieved, and that's where we are right now. Paul Warne needs to change things very quickly or he'll be Warne out.

Ed did nothing wrong. Warne made a mistake. He should be a man about it, say he’s apologised to the player and get on with it. Certainly not hold it against the interviewer as you have alluded.

As @Malty eluded to i watched the post match interview and he didn't seem his usual chirpy self.
Of course he's only human, maybe he'd received a bad text from the mrs or maybe his boiler had broken.
But assuming his morale wasn't affected by outside reasons, maybe as @SSD suggested Warne has realised that whilst we'll back the team in numbers and whilst our support during the Rooney days were unmatched. If he drops the ball this season or even if we lose a couple of matches the knives will start to sharpen. Or perhaps he's down because our recruitment let him down?
Who knows at the end of the day. Hopefully a win on tuesday will see him back to his positive self.
