While I agree with most of this, it’s worth remembering what a club offers a player is more than wages/financial. It’s the facilities that they will work in every day. It’s the size of the ground and fans. It’s the stature of the club. It’s opportunities to showcase their talent. In all of those, Derby offer a very competitive option, as well as they finances not being bad compared to the league (and some in the league above!)

I don’t expect us to overspend on any 1 player, but we can offer something to most players

That is true, but it's still so tough to find proven goalscorers that don't come with any serious asterisk in League 1. Anyone who's known to score goals will at least have Championship offers, if they don't, it's likely because they don't stay fit and/or they're old. At this level, you can have those players, but you will likely need to take a chance on someone who maybe young, maybe has some attributes but maybe hasn't put all those bits in place to have scored a boat load of goals. If you can get that right, and the balance right with the more experienced players, that's how you get resale value.

This is why i struggle to believe Godden is the third striker. We have Collins and Washington who are both north of the 30, and Godden will be 32 before the season starts.

Chester was signed with the intention of him being a key player. During pre-season, in looked like a Chester-Davies partnership was Rosenior's preferred starters

That partnership is so lightning quick they’re just about out the tunnel ready to start against Oxford 2022.

    Thank god it wasn’t.

Knight was out for 6 weeks, Bird 2 months, and Chester injured for 11 months out of the 12 he was contracted for.

Key players was the key. I’ll give you bird but Chester barely measures on the scale.

On the subject of injuries, have we as a club ever had a season where a key player doesn't get injured? There must be a season where everything clicked and everyone stayed fit, but I can't remember it.

    Last year?

How long is Barkhuizen expected to be out for? He is the one who I haven't seen much of all at since picking up an injury at Matlock.

Sounded like from Warne’s comments that wasn’t too bad and will be back in a week or so

Followers doesn’t account for everything, look back through previous tweets, if it’s all luck he must win the lotto every few days aswell.

Delete the times you’re wrong. Twitter b******* account rule 1. Any account whatsoever with a good track record on transfers gets massive followers, even the s**** that claim to know Derby news.

I’d rather take his mate that 19 year old Portuguese lad who scored a hat trick for Man City against us in that Pappa Johns thingy last season Carlos Borges.

I’ll wait for G of C to find his goal scoring figures, gotta feeling they must be pretty good.👍

Heavily linked with Bournemouth and Celtic. He’s not coming down here unfortunately.

TBH, 1st 30, I think they look a bit more energetic and sharper

You have seen the absolute slaughtering that the squad has been put through this week? Hard to judge when you don’t know what both teams have done training wise leading up to the game.

    It's exactly the point.

If we accept that Warne wants, and realises that we need a goalscorer, then it obviously means that at the moment we have been unable to get one that is better than we already have.

I personally feel that getting a good one once the season has started is far better than getting a couple of average ones in July just so that we can integrate them.

The other reasons could be waiting for funds from Bielik/Knight before being able to move on who we want, or the selling club trying to get their squad sorted before letting the player go.

There’s multiple plausible reasons. Warne himself has said finding strikers is the hardest bit, and he is right. Proven ones that aren’t over the hill that come free are rare as rocking horse s***, and finding the same thing with a small fee is also very tough.

I choose to trust that they’re coming. Warne isn’t daft, he’s said what he wants, he’s been open about it and everything he’s said has happened so far. He said after Matlock 4 maybe 5 more, and since then we’ve signed Wilson. That puts us at 3-4 more and I think the majority, if not all, will be in the final third.

Maybe Martin should join it then?

My nephew is getting married and his English stag do centres around the Charlton game on October 14th. There could be up to a dozen of us and what  we won’t be is raucous or rowdy. I’m too old to know about Derby city centre watering holes these days  and all the other participants are from elsewhere in the country. I would be grateful for recommendations on civilised establishments serving a good range of lagers and craft beers. Eating destination not decided yet but could be the Okra on Friargate.

One I find underrated is the Orange Tree. Usually a good selection in there. There’ll be plenty of others recommended by others to go to on your way there too.

Well I don't mean to come across as churlish but........

.......how many expert football coaches does one need to figure out a training drill consisting of a few shuttle runs?

Our pe teacher at belper high used to come up with similar when he was in a hurry due to an imminent attack of the galloping trots.....🤣

Elmore was elite though, in fairness.
