Perhaps, though Toney may come good in a shoot out.

Solanke is a good player but it's hard to argue that he'd be anything other than a significant step down from Kane if he were to become our number 9.

    The Branthwaite decision is baffling.

I think if you’re going on form, as he’s claimed to do, Solanke not even getting in the provisional was bizarre.

Solanke has 21 goals in 42 games with 3 assists this season. Toney has 4 goals in 17 games with 2 assists. Now we know why he only played 17 games, but stats still show something.

Agree but we need to find a Kane replacement.

Probably why I’d have looked at Solanke for this tournament over Toney with their relative ages. Same with taking Branthwaite. Couple of selections which indicates Southgate’s future.

    How's that a penalty?

Whole thing was bizarre. If it even was a penalty, then surely it’s a red card. I know there’s double jeopardy, but isn’t that for legitimate attempts for the ball? Which this wasn’t. Then the keeper seemingly miles over the line and it doesn’t get a retake, but it does get disallowed for encroachment?

Whole sequence was all over the place.

  4. Fair play to Spain, don’t seem to be pointlessly passing it round the back for 40 passes before going forward and that’s how they’ve scored. Ironically, Croatia have done that and it’s cost them when they have lost the ball. Spain look rubbish at the back when Croatia have gone forward though.

Won't start a new thread, but just read that Matija Sarkic (Millwall GK) has died at the age of 26!! No illness reported, just that he died 'suddenly'. Really makes you think, though mostly about your kids 😔

I'd also like Siriki Dembélé, Moussa Dembélé and Ousmane Dembélé if it's a wish list.

I'm very much of the thought we should play our best player Mendez-Laing on the left, for him to cut inside where he always looked his most dangerous and involved. That means playing wingers as our formation with him in the side, especially at home. Dembele's left foot on the right would complement this position greatly. Has anyone stats on how well Mendez-Laing did as an inside-forward/number 10? I thought he was pants most of the time and ineffectual when asked to play off the wing.

He was mainly poor when asked to play up front. But it was a necessity because of lack of strikers and lack of pace through the middle. Wasn’t really his fault, was a needs must.

  7. Tactically, Scotland have done horrific here. The 3 centre backs are being pulled all over the place with Germany in behind the wing backs. It’s like a knife through butter. Even if they win the ball, there’s zero out ball.

Wirtz and Musiala are exceptional, but they’ve not helped themselves at all.

Obligatory highlights video. I really like the look of him. Reminds of of Ebiowei, very skillful, pacey and low centre of gravity. Warnes always said he likes players that will attack and take others on!

BRB just gonna get way too over excited about a loose link.

Suggested him a few weeks ago... very talented lad; quick and left footed so gives us a different attacking option (whether out wide or as a #10). Be interested to see (if we did sign him) whether it would be on loan or on a permanent.

If it was a loan, he is out of contract next summer so could be potential afterwards anyway.

I must admit I've only ever seen him play once, at Pride Park for Blackpool. My main recollection is Dembele finding himself on the floor whenever a Derby player happened to get within a meter of him, I wasn't very impressed. It would be unfair to judge him entirely on that performance of course, but that's all I've got on him.

In fairness to him, to go in hard and early was the tactic and Adams was employed to do it. Every time he touched it, Adams was on him immediately. We identified him as a big danger and had a game plan for it. Not many bigger compliments than that.

  11. As much as we all want early signings, today being the first day of the transfer window a little arbitrary. We could have announced it before if there was something to announce. I'd like to think we will have some sorted for when the players come back to training as that's the only really important time.

No not a clue. As I said previously, I think you can whittle the keepers down to Rodak (free) or Iverson (fee) but could be one out the blue. As for midfielder probably Adams, Osborne or Murphy would be the obvious ones.

Find the idea of having to show Adams round the training ground (while he’s away on international duty, no less) quite amusing.

What’s the next big one on the block then, as I remember you tipping me off about Madri before it took over.

Do you know owt about horse racing as well? I’m up for any kind of early tips me.

Victoria Malaga seems to be getting about. Another European lager with a bloke as the logo. Other than that, not seeing any new brands on the rise currently.

    Yes you are Sarge.

    Ok, crack on then.

I’ll continue to safe Southgate is rubbish, unless he wins the euros then I’ll say he’s alright, but I don’t think he should be the man for the World Cup, until he wins that and then I’ll say well done.

No, it’s not like being Captain Hindsight because I’m admitting I’ve changed my opinion.

    "I don't like him"

    He takes us up

"Well done, I don't mind you now, but I don't think you should manage us in the Championship... but if you do well, I will then say well done again"

Or am I missing something here?

Amstel is still around. It was the main lager at West Ham’s ground last season, pops up at various pubs down here, and much of their market is in West Africa where it vies with Star and Club. But yes, whatever happened to Grolsch and Kronenbourg.

I know it’s still around, just not as widespread as it used to be.

Grolsch used to be owned in the UK by Molson Coors. They let that go in favour of Staropramen, which they had the global rights for when they purchased StarBev in Europe. Grolsch then entered the wilderness for a little bit but is now owned by Asahi. They re-entered it into the UK but it’s at a much lower ABV now (cheaper due to the duty on higher ABV beer).

Kronenbourg is still owned by Heineken and you still occasionally see them push it but not so much on draft. Think they just prefer to go with Birra Moretti or Cruzcampo now. They also own Amstel, too.
