    1 game played
Could have easily won by 2 clear goals but for 2 absolute shockers
Still 3 weeks of window open to get some pace in
An opening day defeat should serve us better than a 5-0 win as it will temper expectations.
We have had a fair bit of turnover during the summer and it's never going to gel straight away.
    Stop your whining...

I understand it makes no sense to you, there is much that doesn't seem to.
What works in League One doesn't work in the Championship and what works there doesn't work in the EPL. Any old enough to remember Bobby Davison can testify to that, God for us til we got to the top flight but that league wasn't for him.
But, before you go calling us amateurs do note there is no confirmation we've bid for him, asked for him on loan or even spoken to the Wendies about him. Or, if we have, that this is a closed topic.
It's just amazing - two goals conceded and suddenly everyone wants to go back to Morrisland. As @i-Ram, seems sustainability isn't too appealing to many.

I think I read that Warne has done this before. Let the players decide who they want to follow. Might have some merits

The less than optimistic fans appear to have 3 main gripes:
    1. Paul Warne - personality and tactics
    2. Not replaced McGoldrick with 20 goal striker
    3. Not spent money in transfer market (especially Bielik & Knight monies).

    1. If some people don't like Warne, they will not be persuaded otherwise. To me, he is a breath of fresh air, honest, down to earth, "says it as he sees it". Prefer that to non-communicative people we have had in the past. Everyone knows what he wants - staff, players and fans. Now he nearly has the personnel he wants, we shall see what his tactics and style of play are. Lets give it half a dozen games (Home and Away) before we make a judgement.
    3. We have brought in Bradley, Nelson,  - to replace Davies, Stearman, & Chester. Much as I love and admire Curtis Davies, his time had come. Bradley & Nelson are a huge improvement in our defence from last year and we still have Cashin and the dependable Forsyth when required.
Although there have been the occasional shaky moment against Championship & Premier League opposition, I think they have already shown a vast improvement in aggression and organisation in defence. Last year we conceded 46 goals (4th best in the League). I shall be disappointed if we concede 35 this year. I would also expect the number of penalties we concede to be greatly reduced, owing to their experience.
Haydn Roberts has chosen to go elsewhere, but potentially Elder is a better, experienced replacement (yet to be proved I know).
Also at wing back is Ward, who has already probably produced more quality crosses into the box than we had last year.
Bradley, Nelson & Ward will be on very decent money (probably more than those they have succeeded), together with their Agents fees.
Our Transfer Budget, as we keep reminding people, comprises of wages, agents fees and transfer fees.
Wilson & Washington have yet to make impacts due to injuries, but the glimpses we have seen have been promising.
    2. We scored 67 goals in the league last year (7th highest in League) - McGoldrick 22.
Replacing those goals is, I think, the biggest challenge.
But I am optimistic. Unlike others, I expect us to score at least 10 from deadball situations - we look threatening right now. Ward's crossing will produce more goals. I just see more goals coming from open play because we have better quality going forward (Ward, Elder, Wilson).
Collins & Washington will both get double figures and there is still plenty of time for new additions.

In summary, I believe we have spent quite a bit of money on our new signings. The pre-season injuries, niggles have been disappointing but I firmly believe if we can get a reasonable start, we will get better and better as the new players gel. Call me optimistic but I think we will concede no more than 35 goals and at least match last years goals scored of 67. Still time to add goals in the transfer market or loan market.

I think people look for things that aren’t there when he’s speaking. To me, he comes across as an honest, hardworking, enthusiastic individual who will no doubt put his all into this club no matter the circumstances. He was open about not wanting to lose Knight but having his hands tied, he’s open about not being able to bring in the perfect striker, what else do you want him to say? Then there are those who dissect every little comment as if he’s speaking in riddles. He’s just a bloke, he’s not a Marvel villain delivering a monologue before a big fight with Captain America. There is no further meaning behind his comments, he just says what he sees/feels.

He seems a very genuine bloke.
I think he’s started to put together a very capable looking squad.
He was playing his cards close to his chest which I don’t blame him for, he’d be foolish if he didn’t.
He knows as well as we do that we’re probably 3-4 players short of a squad that could go on to compete for automatic promotion. I trust his judgement on picking the right players and like how he talks about them having to have the right character.

Warne seems to be saying that we haven't got much money to spend and many people are having a melt down. This may be true, but also consider this, Derby are currently entering a crucial month of negotiations with other clubs, players and their agents, it would be stupid if he was to publicise on radio that we have money to throw around.

We haven’t failed to replace him though. We’ve signed a striker who can and has scored goals at this level before. Washington is a different type of player to McGoldrick, I mean let’s face it McGoldrick is a different type of player to most strikers out there, he’s a bit of a rarity in that sense and so we were never likely to get another striker of the same ilk. Add into that the apparent restrictions on the club and what we have got is an incoming senior striker (Washington) with a solid enough career and goal record replacing an outgoing striker (McGoldrick).
We need more goals throughout the team but this idea we haven’t got anyone to replace McGoldrick almost ignores Washington’s presence just to repeatedly make a point that I’ve pretty much lost the real relevance of. If we add in another 1 or 2 senior strikers we’re in a better situation for squad depth than we were in the second half of last season, the players might be less fashionable, classy or cool than McGoldrick, but they’ll do a job for the team.

My take from this is I can't wait for the season to start and I also need to block about 50 of our fans on twitter and on here.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, of course they are. Who am I to tell them they are right of wrong. I cant. I'm a nobody. I have no influence or importance. However, after reading the same guff over and over and over again, I'm past the stage of interaction and discussion. Past the stage of even reading or listening. I'm now, sadly, just blocking and enjoying the rest.

I thought it was a great interview. Refreshingly honest, warts an' all, which is what I'd expect from Paul Warne. Not happy at some of the answers, but that's more the circumstances around some of the answers rather than the actual answer itself.
It was mentioned at the top of the show that it was the first time they'd had a Derby Manager in the studio since 2017. Amazing that it's been that long.
The strikers situation is obviously concerning, but it would be more concerning had we not at least sorted out the defense. It won't (hopefully) be anywhere near as porous as it has been in recent years. I would imagine there'll be more than a few games where we'll only need to be scoring one goal to win them.

I know it's pure semantics but I'd prefer to call it unsuccessful recruitment in the final third rather than poor recruitment. I wouldn't be surprised if PW has chased targets that most of us would be very happy with but, for one reason or another, they haven't come off. "Poor" kind of implies (in my mind anyway) that we have signed players that haven't been good enough.

I thought we looked a good team against a team in the league above - not having that Shef U are Prem, well not that lot on the pitch today! 😄
I don't like 3 CBs never will, but it will be good enough in league 1. We have enough and differing options to create chances and we even have a relatively decent (albeit limited) strike force.
So yes the squad now looks stronger and mostly better balanced in the spread of experience and skills. #COYR

This is it exactly. Realistically it might be waggy or nothing and I’d happily take waggy in that scenario. Would we all have liked to sign a 24 year old up and coming on the cheap who’s had a stellar season and seemingly going places? Yep, obvs. But it’s a tricky window without seemingly a huge amount of financial wiggle room.
And the following point about it being a joke of a budget is all well and good to stomp your feet about when it’s not your money and you’re not trying to balance the books. I’m disappointed we didn’t manage to take a punt of some relatively cheap prospects, but ultimately I’ve not forgotten the scenario we’re still coming out of and the dose of realism and perspective this gives.

I’m surprised at some of the negative comments in this thread. We played well in spells, but (in my opinion ) I thought Stoke were very poor and I will be in a bottom six battle I think for the upcoming season. We sit too deep at times but we looked decent enough, reasonably good goals today i thought.

He’s already commented on how difficult the market for strikers is proving to be and that he may have to go outside of the ideal age bracket. He’s proactively addressed it in advance of these signings, people either haven’t heard that interview or are wilfully ignoring his more recent comments in favour of the older ones.

We're in League One with next to to money whatsoever.
There's absolutely nothing out there in the free agent market.
This bloke has scored just over 200 goals in just over 400 games and some of us are saying no.
I'm intrigued as to realistically you'd want us to sign? Or would fit in a wage budget?
I'm not saying he's a world beater or I'd be excited. But it's league one. We are where we are. Personally think he could comfortably score between 10-15 goals at this level.
Also Knight hasn't even been gone a week yet and some people are panicking that we've not replaced him.

Totally agree. There are far too many fans who don't see to have noticed that at the moment, we're a mid-table league one club. We were spoiled with big name/money deals in the past, and that wasn't going to last forever.

It's even dafter when people here are calling players not good enough, before they're even kicked a ball for us.
