I still can't believe people are saying this. Whatever any of us may think of his ability to manage a team in the Championship (remember, past achievements - either good or bad - is no guarantee of what will happen in the future) whether you like it or not I'd be truly stunned if PW was sacked after getting us promoted.

Anyone who disagrees with me is very irritating. Although not quite as irritating as listening to a Paul Warne pre-match monologue.

If all our older players did the extra training Collins does, we’d likely have gone up last year.

Biggest difference between this season and last imo is that he’s started timing his headers much better. Oh and he’s not had Didzy stealing the limelight

Presumably then you agree that David Lowe is Derby County's most successful manager of all time because the stats show he has a 100% win record.
He might be 54th in the shooting stats but the important on is that he's 7th equal in the top goalscorer stats. That's ok. He's doing a good job.
Anyway, all this proves is that stats are meaningless without context.

I think his upturn in scoring rate has coincided with him getting into the penalty area for when the ball comes in, instead if spending too much time outside the area chasing the ball. He deserves praise for making the adjustment! It has also come at the sane time that we started using the midfield a little more and playing with the ball closer to the ground instead if the players needing a stepladder to even see how high the cross had been.
    Keep it going, James!

Collins is outperforming his xg which does account for penalties being a good chance to score.
Genuine question….do you go to matches?
The reason I say it is that Rams Tv, Radio Derby and text updates don’t show runs that aren’t fed, lung busting pressing and general shithousery that winds up defenders and ultimately leads to mistakes, goals.
Your point about other dcfc strikers is / was irrelevant…. because they’re hardly ever fit.

Im not saying he’s free from criticism but I do think he’s been unfairly critiqued at times this season.

Last year he underperformed and I had no hope that he would come good. However, this season he’s pulling his weight at the very least.

I guess it’s a forum and everyone’s entitled to post on who and what they like. But I was just surprised to see his ability under the microscope when we’ve got players who have contributed far less and seem to go under the radar.

    Exactly this
The fact that he's trusted to be the penalty taker surely counts in his favour, and somewhat diminishes the stat-pad argument.
There are or have been plenty of teams where their main striker isn't the designated penalty taker, and I have in the past seen people use this as something to criticise the striker for, ie 'he's a good striker but only with instinctive finishes, useless when he has to use his brain or the situation requires composure' so some credit for taking them is warranted.

I will say it again COLLIN IS OUR NUMBER 9 AND HAVING A GOOD SEASON, BORE OFF. PENALTIES ARE GOALS.

I do agree, but again in a squad of many and a side of 11 players on the pitch there’s normally a reason that player has been given the responsibility for penalties. I just don’t buy that because someone takes and scores penalties that should somehow be dismissed as part of their skill set and ability, or looked down upon which is the tone of certain posts.
James Collins has scored a number of important goals in our season so far, does a lot of work off the ball, does a lot of work defensively, and in my opinion doesn’t deserve the sneering of certain fans or posters. He’s a player, with a ram on his shirt giving his all for the team and to earn his bread, I don’t get what’s not to like, but that’s my opinion and others of course are welcome to theirs.

As some have said, this has turned into a pointless back and forth where clearly no party is going to budge their view so I respect the views of you and @Chris_Martin and disagree with them. 🍻

What an utterly pointless back and forth this has degraded in to.
As it stands and like it or not, Collins is our main man up front. Get behind him, help keep his confidence up and he'll do his level best to get us over the line.
I don't give a toss what his % of his goals are penalties, just that goals are going in. Get a grip. Ive done my share of moaning about our style of play but this takes the biscuit.

Surely not? Your having a laugh?
More seriously, what a pointless furrow you and others are ploughing. An absolutely futile! waste of time.
I am confident many fans have had their expectations exceeded as far as Collins is concerned this season. I have no concerns about how he compares to other league one strikers and their stats, what I see are the points his goals have earned , not to mention his work rate and vital role defending set pieces.

I would agree apart from the fact we don't have another striker currently. I've always thought Waghorn was better when he was available.
I do think you're harsh on Collins. He's just doing what the manager instructs to the best of his ability, and he's doing well in that regard. He's doing good overall.

Absolute rubbish. Collins would be a massive miss, as he is our only fit forward, and scoring goals, and works his arse off. For me Nelson , Nyambe, Cashin, NML and Collins have been our best players so far this season.

Of all the things we could moan about this season, James Collins is not one of them.
He gives 100% every time he pulls the shirt on and scores goals.
Yes we can moan about tactics and team selections etc, but Collo's effort, comittment and goals are beyond reproach. He's an honest pro playing at his level and giving it everything.

the point is, they will have earned that by moving / being in the right position at the right time. Not just being handed a free shot from the spot.

Another great away day out! Lots of good performances, as many have said thought Adams had a great debut, certainly not afraid to get stuck in! Am so glad Sonny had a solid game after all the stick he's been getting. And I think Max has left us in no doubt that he is certainly still up for the fight til the end of the season. But a special mention for Collins who covered every blade of grass today and just keeps on going, what a guy!

Great to hear, without doubt the weakest area of the team, hopefully see the best of Bird now, I’d just like to see Fornah replace Hourihane in the side.

I know goals win games, but if we go up, it will be our defence that gets us there . Superb win, back the boys, we can do it . Our fans were brilliant today. UTR
